  • The language is Latin. The Hymn is actually the "Angelus". When Catholics were Catholic, the prayer was said at 6am, noon and again at 6pm. The English translation is "The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary and she conceived of the Holy Ghost" followed by the Hail Mary prayer -then "Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it done to me according to Thy word" -Hail Mary -and thirdly "And the word was made flesh and dwelt amongst us" followed by a third Hail Mary.Harvard Glee Club also sings this.

  • what language is this in?

  • got to meet everyone from chanticleer theyre so nice and theyre music is so wonderful!!!!

  • Also, does anyone know if they are singing the higher soprano parts down an octave? It seems like it should be higher if they are doing the full version.

  • @Icyveins906 They are singing all soprano parts down one octave in this arrangement.

  • @Eito87 Thank you for that information. I didn't want to buy $90 of music only to find I bought the wrong one(s).

  • Anyone if they are doing the 9-part version or one of the smaller versions? I'd like to work with this as an audition piece, but I don't know which to look at. If anyone can answer which of the 3 arrangements by biebl they use, it'd be awesome

  • There are so many renditions of this classic, but this has to be one of the best of all time.

  • My choir is doing this arrangement! :D

  • One of my favorite songs, performed by the best of the best! Awesome!

  • klasse

  • Chanticleer is amazing! Im just now getting into them and I love them. So far their my favorite choir group. This song just seems to make me think of this beautiful girl I used to know named Maria and this other girl named Aeris and they were best friends and I got to meet them. Now I don't know where they are or ever will probably. But I miss them... this song just makes me think of them so much... Beautiful.

  • Pure Enchanted Arias!

  • have followed this group for 25+ years ... I'm not sure how anyone could not believe in a higher power than man or believe in the heavens after listening to music like this!

  • The composer is Franz Biebl

  • I met them at the Bass Hall. They were amazing. I had the honor to talk to all of them. And three of them were our choir judges. They're wonderful, and very talented people.

  • Please could you tell us who the composer of the arrangement is?

  • Chanticleer arranges its own stuff usually, but Franz Biebl did this version of the song...

  • @DrunkCanadian3

right and I think the really title is "Angelus Domini". It's for 6 voices - Chorus and three solists. in Tenor 1+2 and Bass 1

  • @finchen1967 I have the sheet music, the version I have is titled "Ave Maria- By Franz Biebel- as made popular by Chanticleer" weird eh?

  • @DrunkCanadian3 Ave Maria is Angelus Domini.

  • Comment removed

  • @finchen1967 its for 7 voices. 4 part choir and 3 part call back. thats what my score says.

  • @finchen1967

The name of the song is "Ave Maria" by the German composer Franz Biebl (1906-2001).

  • @finchen1967 The music is titled Ave Maria, it's a 7 voice song. Tenor II, Tenor I, and Bass trio plus Tenor I, II, Baritone, and Bass voice parts as the chorus. Very beautiful song.

  • @finchen1967 The song is actually entitled "Ave Maria"

  • Chanticleer is one of my favorite groups! Who can sing it better? So beautiful- like Heaven will be

  • if you think this version is beautiful, you should hear the recording from their "our hearts joy" album! you'll absolutely love it, it's on itunes and youtube
