all ff are great but the IX it's the best!! the story is wonderful and exciting..but the gameplay :(

they all arent great. 12 and 13 are so far from the traditional final fantasy they should be seperate from the series. after 10 the whole battle system was remade. the battle system and great storylines are what made final fantasy. dont get me wrong 12 and 13 were good but i wouldnt say great just cause the stories in both were subpar compared to the others. the storylines are what i think of when i think about final fantasy. epic story/boss battles.

FFVIII had control? if I remember correctly you could use it when you wanted and you could even force it with a certain magic, but the ability they'd use is completely random.

It would be nice to save your trances, but with HighTide equiped against a strong enemy it was pretty much gaurenteed to activate.

The FF games half aways been very anime-inspiried, or at least Japanese. They do require a bit of suspension of disbelief, as most Japanese media does. The developers just start with a lower bar as to how much realisim they need. I prefer it, in fact, it's liberating. They can use whatever ideas they have without worry too much about things, and focus on implementation.

Course, you have things like Gunsmith Cats and Gunslinger Girl, with photo-realistic gun functions.

I don't think the trances are pointless, Steiner's shoots his attack power up, Zidane has his Dyne abilities, Vivi can cast double black magic, Eiko can cast double white magic, Freya can sit in the air and rain spears down on her enemies, and Amarant can restore the entire party's HP and MP by a decent amount...

Quina and Daggers are pretty useless though...

Dagger's Trance is far from useless tbh. Summon an eidolon once and it will be recast for every time it's Dagger's turn. For no mana cost.

Hmm... when your fighting her, shock's a one hit kill, climhazzard and stock break brings everybody's HP down to 1, and Cura heals her for 1,000. When she's in your party, Shock is not a one hit kill, Climhazzard and stock break, while still strong, do not bring enemy HP to 1, and cura heals for around 800, if I remember correctly

Even so, Beatrix is the coolest character in the entire game, and her songs are great^_^

It's great as well, but there's just something different going on between Steiner and Beatrix. For me, it was the least expectable couple. Up until this battle I kept thinking Steiner was a complete moron. During the battle I realized he's just a very loyal knight who made a few mistakes, and that he truly and humbly loves her. I guess this music helps accentuate that feeling.

She still had a 'reduce to 1 HP' attack even as a party member. It'd function essentially the same as Quina's Matra Magic, except it'd target all enemies.
