  • This is no song to sing in front of Larry Talbot.

  • This my friends is the movie magic that have long been left and forgotten. You wouldn't see a movie maker today dare insert an epic singing number with this much feeling in any modern movie. In fact I think they have forgotten about the thought and feeling entirely, the depth of how even seemingly poor people that been through rough times can try to make the best of it. Just how you can't sulk about the bad things in life if you really wanna live it!

  • This is priceless!

  • For thos wanting lyrics: Come one and all and sing a song! Farola faroli! (Farola faroli!) For life is short but death is long! Farola faroli! (Farola faroli!) There'll be no music in the tomb! So sing with joy! Down with gloom! Tonight the new wine is in bloom! Fara-la-la-lo-li! (Fara-la-la-lo-li!) Tonight we toast our happy host! Farola faroli! (Farola faroli!) For he's the man we love the most! Farola faroli! (Farola faroli!)
  • @Kooshmeister3 (Cont'd) His barrel belly's dipper lipped! For drinking wine, we's well-equipped! But where's his chest? It must have slipped! Faro-faro-la! (Faro-faro-lo!) The wine tonight is nobly blessed! Farola faroli! (Farola faroli!) By such a lady and her guest! Farola faroli! (Farola faroli!)
  • @Kooshmeister3 (Cont'd)

To them I toast, come drink with me!

That may they ever happy be!

    And may they live eternally!

    Faro-faro-la!

Come one and all and sing a song!

    Farola faroli!

For life is short but death is long!

    Farola faroli!

  • I always loved this song.

  • Damn After hearing that song I want a glass of wine right now

  • "For life is short, but death is long"

  • Cinemassacre's Monster Madness brought me here. I really like this song even though I can't make out everything that guy is singing.

  • This scene is so blatantly over the top that it gives a warm nostalgic feeling.

  • I will try to play this tune in my violin. It will be hard to get the sheet music of this one.

  • One of the few Universal Songs that actually WORKED in a monster movie! It's ironic that most of the songs used in the Abbott & Costello pics are mostly forgotten, but Adia Kuznetzoff's vocals backed with full orchestra is probably the best part of FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLFMAN! Lord knows, it wasn't Bela's performance as the monster, Too bad the studio decided to omit his dialogue instead of re-recording it with a different actor!

  • @argytunes I heard of that and the dialogue is probably lost since people didn't think about DVD extras back then.

  • I love this scene. That look on Chaneys face when the singer spoke of eternity still gives me chills.

  • what is the name of the song??

  • Remember how, in Van Helsing, Vassaria was portrayed as a dark, depressing village inhabited by frightened people? I like this one better. With the Tyrolean costumes and the singing and dancing, this black and white version is more "colorful" than the colored version.

  • In the film "Van Helsing", the action occurs in Transilvania (Rumania). In the Frankenstein saga of Universal Studios, Vasaria is in Switzerland!

  • @JordiLeader LOL They seem to move everything to Transylvania that has something to do with horror, even the Mummy and the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

  • There is a movie called Transylvania 6-5000. It has similar scene. But the music that the villagers dance to is actually a polka version of Pennsylvania 6-5000.

  • I saw this a couple of days ago. Great movie. If only Karloff, instead of Lugosi, had played the monster. Too bad Lon Chaney couldn't do double duty.

  • Coming up in the theatres in March..."Red Riding Hood" starring Gary Oldman. Who will turn out to be the werewolf who is terrorizing the village? Will all of us "old school" horror type have enough to keep our interest or will they go too far with the teenaged romantic angle? Mercifully, all of the old Universal films held the romance to an angle but now the film companies are trying to appeal to teen girls. (Someone needs to do a horror film in the spirit of the old Hammer Studio work!)

  • I like this movie. Besides being a good story, it contains beautiful music. I think it is Tyrolese. I think also in the old Universal monster movies when I see an Oktoberfest. One of my favorite movie songs.

  • @MrJorlop You are just like me. Whenever I go eat at a German restaurant, I think of the Frankenstein film series! Lon Chaney was always excellent as Talbot, just a total pro. I always think of his brilliant role as "Lenny" in "Of Mice And Men" and how, in a sense, his character had also turned into a wolfman.

  • The Wolfman reamke had some great werewolf scenes, but overall it seriously lacked what made the original so good.

Anyway, me and my dad love this scene. Sometimes when we're around friends or family members(who never watch these films....weirdos), and start singing it. Boy we get some looks. lol

  • @MrWesdotcom I recently watched all the old Universal horror Films in sequence over a week - undeniable heaven!!!! the song must be the happiest song ever about death. would love to hear you and your Dad's rendition!

  • @johnbarry1965 lol Well, we probably don't do it justice, hahaha, but at least we keep it alive.

  • @MrWesdotcom Thank you! nice to know there's folk that appreciate the old Universal horror!!!!!

  • @johnbarry1965 Yeah, and I'm only twenty, so I'm quite young for watching these. I always love seeing people younger than me posting on these.

  • They dont and never will make movies like this again ,I say HELLYEA for another great lon chaney movie

  • I've seen this flick ra billion times and I still can't quite get it... is it "Fa Low La Fod-oh-Dee" or "Follow follow o-dee" or maybe "Chef-Boy-Are-Dee". Great movie though... I especially like it when Frankenstein's monster arrives to break up the party by kicking barrels of wine off the wagon like a two-year-old in a tantrum.

  • yeah munchkins in a horror movie that will be the the day

  • @jessgetsnoluv Look up Freaks (1932)

  • I was watching this film last night with my 9 Year old son. He wasn't phased by the Wolfman or the Monster, but when this bit of faux Mittel-European Operetta polluted the screen, he jumped up and turned off the TV! I was half-annoyed (I was enjoying the Baroness too), and half impressed by his good taste.

  • When I saw this scene, I thought it was going to turn into a musical!

  • All that was missing were some munchkins dancing around the village!

  • Perfect thing to watch before seeing the remake of the original Wolf Man!

  • The "remake" was EXCELLENT. No spoilers, but Anthony Hopkins' role is certainly not like Claude Rains' part in the original!

  • @LesbianVampireLover - LOL The "remake" was PUTRID. They turned a greek tragedy into a monster rally devoid of any mystery or real suspense. Performances (for the most part ) were good, though.

  • @LesbianVampireLover Anthony Hopkins sucked dick, Benicio Del Toro was ok, Emily Blunt was eh and Hugo Weaving was awesome as the cop.

  • ha ha lazbo vampire lover ...nice name!

  • lol this is a good song to use to get on ppls nerves when i first saw this part i was liek wtf but now i love this part it's the beat part besides the epic fight between the two legendary monsters

  • It occurs to me how much Lon Chaney Jr. in this scene resembles Ralph Kramden, getting more and more steamed and then exploding. You half expect him to get up and yell "You're a BLABBERMMOUTH!!" :)

  • It's strange that in a movie featuring two of the greatest classic monsters of al time, that THIS is the scene I love the most (Far-u-la-far-u-lee!)

  • it's a great song and dance. it reminds me a bit of the gypsy dancing scene in the sequel "house of frankenstein".

  • @makydsdaddy far-u far-u far-u-looneor what ever they said

  • Gotta love that scene when he reacts to that line in the song. Really a small thing said yet it left such a powerful impact on him and made him freak out. But Larry isn't the only monster going to the festival tonight.....

  • Boy Illona was just SUCH a beautiful woman! I loved her in Invisible Agent and this. I love the Universal classics. I mena granted the Frankenstein and Dracula movies differ alot from the books, but they have unique visions with them and they certainly beat most of the other adaptions. You just can't get the same effects with CGI today. Back then it was all story and amazing scenes like this. I love Chaney and Adia has a great voice. It's a shame people don't watch these as often anymore.

  • I couldn't agree more. Today's movies are all Special Effects & explosions...(yawn!) Sherlock Holmes looks like it's going to be a travesty, and so far, I'm not looking forward to the Wolf Man remake either...oh, well, time will tell!

  • Yeah I noticed that too. The SHerlok Homes movie looks INSANE. I mean it might be amusing at least, and who knows it might even be good, but it still looks a little too crazy. It's interesting how they made Watson push back a bit though. As for the Wolfman it has a great looking cast and it's kind of better to remake an old movioe than a movie only 25 years old like Nightmare on Elm St., but it doesn't look like it''ll have that eerie feel. Tired of all this "reimagining rebooting remaking" etc

  • Thank u so much for uploading this! I love this scene~

  • I always wondered, who played the overweight tavern owner?

  • @mrandquist lol he's always dressed like a fag

  • This actually looks like a great party!!

  • What a great Scene!!!

  • what a buzzkill!

  • I love Lionel Atwill's voice !

  • where did larry get his suit, he came to vasaria in poor looking clothes?

  • vasaria had a big and tall outlet just outside of town

  • Poor Lawrence... of all things to sing about, that guy wishes Lawrences what he fears most.

Also, it's too bad that they didn't make this The Wolf Man's own sequel. It would've been awesome to make his parts in this for something other than "Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man".

  • It is a sequel to the Wolfman!

  • Ilona Massey is the second actress to play

"Baroness Illsa Frankenstein" and Pat Knowles

    plays"Dr.Frank Mannering"

  • were did lawrence talbot get his new suit. remember what he was wearing when he came to town with maleiva

  • One of my all-time favorite sequences from the golden age of Universal horror. Always brings a smile, thanks for posting!

  • i love singing this tune at the oktoberfest.

  • I'd like to attend an Oktoberfest where they played this out! Supposedly, they had a group sing along of this song at a Famous Monster's convention about ten years ago. Whenever I go and eat in a German restaurant, I always think of these old horror films.

  • farola faroli

cuz there will be no music in the tomb

    faroli farola!!!

such a FUCKIN GREAT son deserve a 5/5

    thanks miss

    and a big kiss

  • The singer performing the tune during the new

wine festival is the same performer..who worked

with L&H as the abusive cook in"Swiss Miss"at

    Hal Roach in 1938.

  • Great sequence! Talbot didn't exactly help his cause with his constant freak-outs. I do feel bad for him, though, especially in this scene. "There's an entire village of people jumping around and this prancer decides to make me the center of attention! Can't he look at my face and see that I'm not enjoying this??? I'm not even pretending to have a good time! The next time I turn into the Wolf Man, I'm coming after you!! Elsa - give him some change and maybe he'll go away!"

  • I remember watching this as a child, and identifying with Laurence Talbot.

To this day I have an unhappy repugnance for revelry.

  • It's not unusual. you're all wrong.

  • What Are The Lyrics To This Song, Anyone Know?

  • Escena memorable!!!

  • Great film! Wish they would find the footage of Lugosi as the Monster talking and showing he was blind (from "Ghost Of Frankenstein").

  • Larry really lost it, I thought he was going to wolf out on the guy

  • This is such a rich scene. And very funny. The looks on Talbot's face as he has to contend with the 'geepsy myuzik' are priceless. Love the way the villagers seem to be oh-ho-ho-ing him at first, even as he shakes his fists at them.... "Check out this guy! Ho-ho! ... uh-oh..." And that lead singer is as fast as Muhummad Ali at improv rhyming!!

  • Great post! A timeless, if unusual, scene from the classic Universal horror cycle. Forry Ackerman (who I once had the honor of meeting during a tour of his home/memorabilia museum in Hollywood) would certainly approve.

  • They actually had a group singing of this song at a Famous Monsters convention. I didn't attend but my daughter has attended one and met Forry, Al "Grandpa" Lewis, and others.

  • Well, I guess only Forrest Ackerman is sufficiently cultured to comment on this one!
