Dark Ages happened after the Crusades and you are unfamiliar with Christian church history for during the Dark Ages came the Spanish inquistion in which anything less then the Catholic Church was not tolerated. And their came a great killing from the Catholic church against all who would become protestant and that splintered into several sets of people in later church history heading to New World to worship God. You can look this up on the internet.
