In the Vancouver area about 45% of the population speaks a first language other than English. Here in Calgary at least a quarter of the population is foreign born. In some areas of Toronto you hear Chinese or Vietnamese more than English. In Quebec they won't even issue a work visa anymore to anyone who dosen't speak French. I could go on but I think you get the point. We have been very accomadating and have just about had our fill.

This might sound strange, but in many respects, countries like UAE have roughly the correct idea when it comes to immigration. More or less, anyone can come in and work as long as they like in Dubai ...and if they buy a house in Dubai they can visit whenever they want... but you cannot become a citizen of Dubai..you will remain a visitor.
