Protons don't move, electrons do. The electrons in the trees move closer to the ground, causing the trees to become positively charged. The electrons moving to the base of the cloud cause the base to be negatively charged. Where ever the electrons move from becomes positive and where ever they move to becomes negative. Take a physics class to learn more.
Lightning always originates from a cloud. You may not see it, but lightning doesn't just occur. Lightning can be 50 miles long.
I know. I wrote a 13 page paper on just lightning last year. This video was meant to be showing to elementary schoolers, so I had to keep it simple. Yes, you are right. Lightning can go cloud to cloud as well, and even cloud to open air.
I also could have also explained why lightning flickers when it goes from cloud to ground: It's because the protons bounce back into to cloud after the electrons come down and somes connnecting with other areas of electrons, sending them back to the ground, but didn't want to be too complicated.
Yes, those were lightsabers and if you turned up the volume, you might be able to hear the sound effects in the background; although, youtube doesn't have a good sound quality.
I really want to work on the Hunger Games video, but my editing computer keeps crashing and not starting up and instead giving me 9 consecutive 'beeps'. I feel as if every beep is an insult and that it has a grudge against me. I hope I can fix it for summer.
How the electrns comes down the cloud and not the positive ones?
Why lightning not occurs in sunny time afternoon, eventhough there is cloud on sky?

Hey! Nice presentation/explanation Dude.
BUT, aren't the protons supposed "to go" to the electrons ?
- always attracts the +, not the other way around.
I'm not trolling, I'm just wondering.

I started commented as I watched, so here:
"Good, old-fashioned cumulus"- okay, that was hilarious. :)
Electrons with...are those lightsabers? :)
WALL.
Good example, with the doughnuts.
Okay, awesome graphics! Dude, this is a great video. Too bad it didn't work out for your presentation- people would have been quite impressed.
