I also learnt this at school and absolutely loved it. My 11 year old daughter had to research Australian Ballads and I was looking up Rolf Harris "Two Little Boys" and found this one. I never realised it was him. I will definitely never forget it again and will one day, I hope, sing it to my grandchildren as I seem to remember Mum singing it to me!

This has bought tears to my eyes. I used to sing this lullaby to my daughter many many years ago. Its her Birthday soon and will send her this link. I am in america now she is grown hopefull she will sing this song to my granddaughter

Rolf Harris sung this, but it appeared in the ABC "Sing" books in 1977 and was composed by Morva Cogan, it used to have an aboriginal verse as well

It holds the record for the longest place name in Australia. The name is in an aboriginal language and means "stars dancing on water".

@glyn001 Morva Cogan, an Australian writer of short stories and poetry, developed a special interest in aboriginal culture when she grew up with aboriginal children in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. Her best known work is probably this song, sometimes called "Picanninnies' Lullaby," which was popularised by the singing of Rolf Harris
