  • Superb! The saddest line ever "he loved Big Brother".

  • Orwell was influenced by his awful experiences as a soldier in Burma and was disgusted by the human atrocities there by English rule. He then went to help communists in Spain during the Fascist regime and was shot in the neck by Russians (also communists). He then realized the awful truth about the brand of communism there and was asked to help write propaganda for the allies of WWII. He then wrote Animal Farm, directly about the Russian Revolution, disguised as a "Fairy Story". Genius.

  • Reminds me of Ira Levin's book This Perfect Day... Interesting.

  • What do you think of the movie ROLLBALL?? It came of out in the mid-70's.

  • Another interesting aspect to the prophecies of George Orwell is that he wrote these books in Burma.

  • I've always thought Brave New World by Huxley was closer to what's happening in America and Europe. It's not brute force, it's hedonism and distraction that are the main instruments of controls. Two books on the must-read list.

  • I thought the same thing, it seems that Orwell was witnessing what was happening in Russia. Orwell had a direct line to the elite and what they would impose on us, if you read Julian Huxley and Thomas Huxley its clear these are where Aldous got his ideas.
