Anyone can read the info on the box and read about the differences.
I was looking for a side by side comparison of how they function live in use. Like showing what one can do that the other can't, which feels better when working, etc.
okay, i was deciding weather to get the Akai LPD8 or Nanopad, it will be my first controller and most of the Nanopad videos i have saw seem that you can have alot more sounds in than the Akai LPD8 as you can change the 'channels' does it have the capability to have more than 8 sounds loaded in
@supersamee Thanks a lot. How about a Kaossilator and Nano. Would you suggest that? Or would you suggest laptop, Omni control, Kaossilator without Nano?
I'd go for the AKAI. I been thru 3 KorgNanoPads and they all break within 2 weeks of getting them. I just bought the AKAI LPD8 yesterday and I used it the same day on a gig I DJed and it's WAAAAAAY better then the KorgNanoPad. A better build for sure, sturdier and stronger
hey im just getting into this and i was wondering what one would be netter for me i just want to do techno beats and have sorta scratching abilitys what would you sujust
Wow, amazingly detailed review and comparison. Definitely sold me on the Akai. When you get a little older, you should work for them as a product specialist.
I bought not one, but TWO nanoPads... None of them worked. The pads were not working, except two of them. So I'd say the nanoPad would have been a good product if they did manufacture them properly. Instead they thought it would be ok to ship not-QC-passed products all over to piss off their customers. Not a wise choice, IMHO. I've read a LOT of comments on the internet about defective nanoPads, so I guess I'm not the only one who got fucked :/
what about making dubstep type wobble effects. it seems that tht x-y pad would be easier doing that, or can the settings in the akai be programmed to wobble?
Good review! I actually bought the nanopad, but when it turned up only one of the 10 pads worked. Wiggling the sides of the pads made them trigger a little bit so it was a manufacturing flaw, or shipping damage....sent it back and swapped it for the akai which is turning up today. The only thing I'm disappointed about is missing out on the the expression touchpad. I could imagine buying another nanopad just for that..... it felt really nice to use
Alright i have a question and i realy hope you will answer it ! : I have the korg nanopad but with the EZdrummer and my FL studio the pads with the sounds doens't react so fast en my pest 1 2 3 4 5 and 6 are not working is that normal ? and are this things better by the akai lpd 8 ? please react !
i love and use both of these company's products, but the nanopad has MAJOR quality issues (I.E. the pads break very quickly and easily), nearly everywhere you look the nanopad has terrible review scores because of this, and people tell stories of how the nanopad broke within hours of buying it. I love korg, but something really seems to have gone wrong when they designed these. Also, i have an LPD8 and love it ^_^ , good review
finally i bought the akai for 55 euros because after some reasearch i assume that the pads are better. i played a roland handsonic for a few hours and i really liked the finger playing.... i hope the sensitivity of those akai pads is nearly as good as the feel of the handsonic pad but i guess this is a bit unrealistic keeping the price difference in mind...
lol you pretty much made an infinity tunnel by putting your image on the computer. Then it shows your image on another computer...and another....and another...and another....
Hey I'm planning on getting the LPD8 instead of the nanopad but can you recommend an alternative to the Korg NanoKontrol? does Akai make a model like that?
@leisurecentury the short answer is yes. however, why not just by the mpd?? I have used both the Akai lpd8 and the Korg nano and in my opinion there is no comparison. It's like deciding between a Kia or a Toyota.. no brainer right?
Thanks mate. Was looking for something like this. I'm going with the AKAI. Thanks for taking the time out to put this together. Got some beats you've made to show??
Hey! I'm well impressed with your videos, you obviously know your stuff. We are running a video review competition at the moment with the chance to win up to £150 off music gear if your interested! I have broken 3 nanopads, THE BUILD QUALITY IS POOR!
I now have an Akai LPD8, i have had it 7months, i use it every day and it is still as good as new (the longist a korg nanopad ever lasted me was 3hours).

Can you assign a wav file or MP3 file to any of the eight pads?
For example...the sound of someone laughing, a speeding car, a huge audience applause etc etc...
I would buy one of these but only if I can add my own sounds to it.

@ForestDweller80 I would think so, you may have to create two tracks with your drum samples in FL and assign each controller to each track
