  • HE PLAYED NORWEGIAN WOOD!!

  • The narrator sounds like Nicholas Courtney.

The song sounds like: Oh du limber Augustin.

  • This is Synth porn.

  • Its an interpritation of Norweigan wood by John Lennon ( The Beatles )

  • please someone tell me what is the name of song playing on 03:40 ?

  • I N C E P T I O N player.

  • Nice to hear the name pronounced correctly.

  • @Kohntarkosz Yes, I thought the same. Those were the times when the BBC bothered to research things properly and make sure what was said was properly understood and properly pronounced. Much better than simply not bothering and having an `it'll do' attitude like they do now. And much more respectful to Bob Moog.

  • @therealsweep The interesting thing is, when this documentary was done, it would make sense that you mispronounce a name like "Moog", simply because it's a relatively uncommon name. Nowadays, you see the word Moog all over the place, and after all these years, you'd think people would know the correct pronunciation. Yet, you meet people today who even after being corrected, STILL insist on saying "Moooooooog" like a damn cow or something. (shrug)

  • @Kohntarkosz Yes, exactly. I couldn't agree more.

  • NORWEGIAN WOOD! :D

  • Moog is fighting space monsters at 4:11

  • love the scientific approach..

  • does anyone know the song in the begging of this video?

  • @jimmylink0990 Greenslieves

  • Beautiful tones and playing-what a great programme 'Tomorrows World' was.....

  • @3:00 Welcome to the Machine - Pink Floyd

  • q groso aparato :P

  • i say good sir, this new fangeld thing call electronic mail sound amassing.

  • God I wish I could have a Moog, or at least a mini-Moog. Probably one of the most important instruments ever invented and one of my favourite synthesisers alongside the VCS3. Analogue synthesisers are the best:D

  • the sounds coming at 3:57 would become very comon in any 80's electropop hit.

  • @BMWACP

Monophonic. When it went polyphonic in about late 1982, musical keyboards lost their charisma a bit. One finger always, for classic electro-pop.

  • @closertofiftythanyew What on Earth are you referring to? The very earliest Moogs were polyphonic. The Minimoog just happened to be monophonic in order to make the synth easy to figure out for the 'average' musician. The Mini was one of the few that actually were monophic. Playing several notes as opposed to only one greatly exands the musical possibilies far beyond a mono synth.

  • @MarquisEstelle

Sorry, that is what I was on about, the minimoog. Hardly anyone could afford a multi-multi-module moog then. And one fingered early electro-pop had character, didn't it. That was lost a bit with the new cheap polyphonic keyboards that appeared, and even more so with the dreadful Fairlight-like digital keyboards that came along a couple of years later.

  • @MarquisEstelle Well not exactly. You can not play chords by pressing several keys together on the early Moogs (Wich were all monophonic Modular Synths. The only polyphonic ones are the later Memorymoog and Polymoog). But you can create a Chord by tuning the oscillators of your modular individually.

  • You need to find the "music" segment of the comedy show "Look Around You." It's a perfect double feature with this bit.

  • this r how they madez runescape musicz.

  • mawg? mogue like vogue it is, isn't it?

  • 3:40 -- definitely Teenage Wasteland

    3:50 -- this ROCKs, dude! :^)

Makes you wanna invest in good ole analog technology just to play around with.

  • Look around you...

  • @mkultra2300 hahah fully what this reminded me of :P

  • At 4:09 is he playing Norwegian Wood by the Beatles?

  • from 04:09 I love it!

  • Oh my gawd!!! Who remembers this - the first time round? And look at today's keyboards...

  • "You create your sound by simply plugging into the right holes"

That's still kind of how you get a record deal...

  • @weeneldo ha! lol

  • This is how it all began, Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, O.M.D. JMJ, Ultravox

to name but a few. Great stuff.

  • A fascinating clip, explaining the basics of analogue synthesis.

  • A softsynth demo download is available for this Moog from the company Arturia.

  • seems awful complicated to get to know all the different holes to put plugs into ; like a vast telephone exchange

  • That ist "Greensleeves" ...

Nice Vid for synthesizer-maniacs showing how this thing was shown in the past...

  • I don't want to be an ass, i searched myself for the name of the melody that he is playing right at the beginning, but i cannot find it, so if anyone can you please tell me :)

    Thx and great vid !

  • i think it`s Greensleeves , at the begining

  • walter than wendy. its so weird. 1967

  • 03:40 do you think Pete Townsend was listening to that bit????

  • Yes, you bet he was. i had the same thought.

  • What a great bit of footage. I have a series E Mini and like Mr Hendrix and his Strat, will take it to my resting place.

  • Oh, for a Moog Modular, but they are so expensive now!!!

Last track still sounds very modern (take on a Beatles track?)

    Thanks very much for posting...
