  • I am afraid that John didn't look up the story behind Taps, yes it was written by a southern corniel but it was for his son that had been killed in battle. he asked the north if he could bury him with a song and the norht said yes but that he could only have 1 instrument to accompiny the words so he pitched the bugle. and that is where the song came from a souther soilder's father

  • For those that have served in uniform, police, fire, military, this song holds significance in that we went to sleep with it, and laid to rest our brothers and sisters in the uniform. Beautiful, but heart wrenching. TAPS either says goodnight, or rest in peace with God. Most grown men cry when they hear it and remember the fallen heroes in their lives. SSgt Miller Veteran

  • @rubbing2001 , I shalll always recall the first night at boot camp, "Paris Island" as the lights went out all over the camp, and Taps began....I was reminded of that day in December when I was 10 years old ..wanting to be a boy so I could fight for my country. I will be 80 soon, and still proud to have served. Thank you Sgt for your service

  • I have heard taps as an Airman when it was time to rest, then again when a fellow soldier, sailor, airman, marine and coast guard'sman was laid to his final resting place. I never can go through hearing Taps without tears welling up in my eyes for those heroes!! SSgt Miller Veteran

  • those who are dislikeing this are commis and need to get the hell out of my country

  • @ReveiwMaster2011 DITTOS

  • Who are the douche bags that "disliked" this?? Must not be Americans

  • wow never new john wayne was a poet may he live in all our hearts forever

  • learned the words back in Junior Girl Scouts. I will never forget them

  • yes, he did try to join, John Wayne really was a patriot. I am glad he chose my family name to use for his career, and I am always grateful that he represented our military in as best a way as he could, that he did his best to inspire a nobility of spirit and rally the homefront around the troops.

  • IF TAPS DOESNT BRING TEARS TO YOUR EYES YOURE NOT A MAN !

  • Bugle calls were part of the command of the army and there could be some confusion during a battle as to which unit the call was meant for. This bothered Gen Butterfield and he one night sent for his bugler and Butterfield wrote the song and gave it to the man. he was to play it morning and night and to alert his troops that there were instructions coming from him. Others herd the beautiful notes and copied the tune. it is how I honored my farther and how I hope they honor me (Nam)

  • Taps still gives me goosebumps all over my body!! The words are beautiful and I believe that all our armed forces feel the same way everytime they hear it. God Bless America!!

  • When my dad died he was a WW2 veteran. Unless you hear those taps inside a church If you don't know then don't comment negative It was then I knew what he gave to me and my country and still after 30 years haunts me every day and I'm so proud of my dad God Bless you dad.

  • nice to see patroits r still kickin, to all that served thank you for your service. to those that got a problem with this or other patriotic stuff, there's a border in all 4 directions, and we will gladly show you the way there, or bury ya at it your choice, after all this is america

  • @MyMerlin Yes you all had troops that fought and died, but until we entered the wars, the Allies were fighting a losing battle. Go back and read your history books some more. As for this new terrorist stuff.....yes the Britts and the Aussies have helped, but how much? I was there and let me tell you it wasn't as much as people like you may think. My brothers and sisters and I are the ones over there still and have been the whole time fighting and dying. Not you or yours.

  • @SuperWeb88 Thanks for your service to my nation....I sincerely appreciate it.

  • The hatred of some in these comments defeats why we fought to save the world in two world wars. The Brits, Canadians & Aussies have helped with our fight in these latest two wars and in others in the past. In both, the allies had been fighting valiantly for years before we entered it. They were low on every resource including soldiers not because of weakness or lack of dedication. Every soldier in the allied military fought for our freedom too. ALL deserve RESPECT, then and now.

  • Love this video. Sad that I have heard Taps a few funerals.

  • Howdy This was beautiful 4 dislikes ?????? I never knew there were words to taps first time i heard taps they sent chills thru me and they still do and I bet every other red blooded American who still believes in our great country feels the same way thanks for sharing this RIP John Wayne, we all miss you Rich in WV
  • @1958wvpicker Thank you for your kind words. I grew up singing the words growing up. I love the words and i feel they are very powerful. May America reign as long as there are patriots to die for her and to support her.

  • @patriotchild

    Howdy Old Solider

my guess you severed in in Nam

    Welcome Home my friend

may your son rest in peace

    Amen to that

    Rich

  • @1958wvpicker When one hears TAPS played for his own fallen son it really hits home. This happened to me in 2004 when my 21 year olld son died while serving in the US Army. This song stills brings tears to this old soldier's eye's.

  • @jdcj1953 I'm so sorry for your loss. My brother is overseas now, serving on his first deployment and I worry about him every day. I want to thank you for your son's service.

  • America does not have any HISTORY what are you talking about?

  • @MyMerlin1 thanks for coming to this vid just to smack talk.Dumbass.

  • @MyMerlin1 lol....we are the meaning of history.....our people came from nations who hated them and did not want them.....Our nation is the lost who banded together and became everything no other nation had ever become....UNITED.We existed long before you and we will exist long after you have failed, for we are THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

now.....GET THE FUCK OFF MY PLANET, YOU OXYGEN CONSUMING SLIME.

  • @1wyotech What a fucked up country America is and they don't even own it . At least we english own our Country and Language.

  • @MyMerlin1 you say it is fucked up and yet you are still trying to be like US. You "english" are the ones who sent us here as prisoners and unwanted. you"english" are the ones who tried to tax the new nation to death because the great unwashed had became successful and were thriving. you "english" got your asses whooped in the Revolutionary war. We had very little weaponry and no trained military, but we sliced and diced your "english" asses and made you run from OUR UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

  • @1wyotech It took the combined efforts of the French, the Dutch, The Spanish, The Canadians and the US to evict the British.

  • @MyMerlin1 and your stupid asses STILL could not figure out how to leave. You were whooped and ran off......pure and simple. And now apparently behind the annonymity of a keyboard....you are brave and feel the need to attack the history and heroes of my nation. you "sir" are a coward of the worse kind....you hide behind the internet.

  • @1wyotech Why did you cowards avoid WW1 + WW2 untill they were half over?

  • @MyMerlin1 So many died for the cause of freedom. And you dare to call them cowards.

  • @MyMerlin1 was not our fight....until we were attacked....then we came in and saved your asses....the same asses we had whooped.....and not only did we save your asses in WWI but we did it again in WWII. I can tell you....looking back....we should have just let your asses be taken over by the Germans. Would have served your ungrateful ass right!

  • @1wyotech You did not save our asses in WW2, Was that when you came over to England After we won the Battle of Britain ?

  • @MyMerlin1 riiiiight....so....remind me....exactly why are thousands of my countrymen buried in cemetaries in YOUR motherland.....they certainly were not killed in the USA in battle and then shipped over there to be buried....you may want to tread lightly coward....the day may come when your nation needs my nations help....and we may just remember your ungratefulness and let your asses rot in islamic hell.

  • @1wyotech you my friend are an ass and a commy and should be put infront of a fireing squad and killed

  • @bobthetrucker13 well....bob the trucker....I am not an ass and I certainly am not a commy....my family fought in the Revolutionary war....and the Civil War....and WWI and WWII andthe Korean war and the Vietnam war and Desert Storm AND Operation Enduring Freedom AND Operation Iraqi Freedom AND the Afghanistan War.....I think perhaps YOU are the one that deserves the firing squad....or sent to Afghanistan.Death would be to good for you.

  • @bobthetrucker13 if you want to attack and threaten people boobthefucker....I suggest you block so you cannot be reported. you action and message to me was and is considered criminal threatening.....have a good day.

  • @1wyotech also...its nice to know you are from Oklahoma....that helps, makes the search for you sooooo much easier.

  • @MyMerlin1 What a fouled up and completely blind mindset you have.

  • @1wyotech that kind of language is not needed. All it does is show un educated you are!!

  • @tvermilye read the whole thread.....I did not start the insulting or the foul language and yet you attack me......and your wording needs a lot of help. "All it does is show un educated you are!!" what the hell does that even mean? and you call me uneducated? at least I can type a normal damn sentence....outside of that I could give a rats ass what you think.

  • Sure do miss ya Duke!!!... and we sure could use ya. You'd be appalled at what our government has become, big business runs the country these days... not "the people" lobbyists and corruption swarm over the capital like a dark cloud. But a few of us still stand that believe in this great country! We still believe it to be a great place and we hope and look forward to a day when our leaders and role models believe and act in accordance to their office as they used to bye for now Duke and R.I.P.!!

  • Amen "aircraftbuilder"!

  • If you talk bad about this great american what may I ask do you call the trash that is leading our country today??

  • I didnt know there was words to this song!!!

  • John we sure could use you again...........rest in peace!!! Don't lose faith in us

I know a few PATRIOTS that won't let this country go down without a fight.

  • Those that say Wayne was a draft dodger are plain wrong. He was well into his 30s when the war broke out and already had a wife and children. On top of that, years as a very heavy smoker had left his body unfit for service. He was no dodger, he was ineligible for the draft.

  • @newireland1 He was also banned from joining the military because of knee injuries that he suffered that ended his football career.

  • @newireland1 actually i think i read somewhere he tried to join but they asked him to do the films instead, sort of rally the home front.

  • @LazlosPlane Sometimes we must all do the duty, that will produce the most good. John Wayne inspired the soldiers and the American public through 3 wars. Better he did what he was good at, than die doing what he was physically unable to do. Jimmy Stewart flew B17 bombers, and was a close friendof the Duke until the end. Do you think that would be true if John Wayne were a coward?

  • @bensdadfrank Wayne had a 3a ( family deferment ) in 1941' and the selective service later re-classified him 1a eligible for service until the movie studio who held his contract got him another deferment. Wayne did not have any physical ailment that would prevent him being eligible for service. Others older in less health served and saw combat like Clark Gable & Eddie Albert etc.

Wayne, 'talked the talk' but did not 'walk the walk' .

Jimmy Stewart flew B-24's exclusively in combat not B-17's.

  • ONE NATION UNDER GOD, DAMMIT!!

  • To the 4 dislikes.... GET BENT!

  • Real soldiers make their enemy die for his country!

  • Our politicians seem to have betrayed the American public. The voice of the people, seems to be ignored now days. The banks run our county, and the rich seem to be destroying the little guy. The hard working American has less now days. It's as if we no longer have true patriots in charge any more. Young men and women die for America and the dream of FREEDOM. We the people are going to wake up one day and notice the injustice and find our selfs as slaves to the banks and the politicians.

  • A wonderful history of Butterfield's bittersweet lullaby.

  • Thank you Duke.....

  • AMERICA, will live as long as there is ONE PATRIOT, with ONE WEAPON and the willingness to DIE for FREEDOM !!!

  • GOD bless AMERICA.

  • Thank you God for the greatest Patriot that ever lived.

  • America is not going to be over in my lifetime.

That's all it takes to keep us going.

And I hope that my countrymen feel the same way.

If they do, this nation will never go away.

  • @fatkinson1954 Amen.

  • @fatkinson1954 WITH YOU !!!

  • You may catch flak, but only from those who have no understanding and no sense of loss.

    TO THE DUKE....HOOORAAA !!!

  • This was written by Robert Mitchum another great American... Perhaps you should add that to the thread? God bless America!

  • 4 People have no soul.

  • E PLURIBUS UNUM. I made it a point in my life that my boys visit Bull Run in Manassass, VA. , WE also payed our respects at Arlington Cemetary. I am not a historian. I don't have to be...I was Blessed to be Born in America.

  • When I was a boy, we stayed on post one night at Ft. Rucker, my Dad was a retired LTC. It was the first time I heard Taps play over the loudspeakers. We stood out on the balcony of the post lodging/hotel and listened, and as it played, he sang the words to it. It was a very powerful moment for me. I'm proud to say, when I came of age, I went on to enlist in the Army, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division. I wanted to go aviation, but had to take Infantry. Hearing Taps in uniform is moving.

  • @SuperKriegsmarine - it's possible to make SSgt in 6 years depending on your MOS, I see younger SSgt's than myself and I'm only a Cpl

  • Thank you John (RIP) and the whole REAL) United States of America (NO ILLEGAL ALIENS)! Your story was eloquent to say the least and right to the point.

  • Makes me remember lost friends and squad members every day

  • very touching.

  • Seems like I've heard taps too many times in my life, it doesn't get any easier

  • When I was in the Army and especially when I went through basic training we were always told never to act like John Wayne because he was an actor and not a hero.

He was a wantabe who was sorry he did not fight in World War II.

He sucked and is a person we should not admire because he was a hypocrite.

He was an actor and I am sure even the most light weight military person could kick his sissy hypocritical ass.

  • @Rhett1965 Let me guess, you were a section 8?

  • @Rhett1965 Nice try, but your jealousy is showing. Wow, army that must have been a tough 8 weeks. John Wayne was a morale booster and because of heart murmur he wasn't able to join the military. But he did every Bond drive and war movie he could to help the cause. You did what two years?

  • what songs were used????

  • we need our world to be like they were in the dukes world were everyone could help out with justice

  • We could Sure Use *The Duke* around today....

... he might actually show everyone exactly WHERE O'bama was born...

  • my great grandma had a afair with him. When she past on. We look in stuff and found love letters and his wallet full of info and his I.D

  • @Menative123 if thats true thats badass

  • Fading light dims the sight And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright From afar drawing nigh, Falls the night. Day is done, gone the sun From the lakes, from the hills, from the skies All is well, safely rest; God is nigh. Then goodnight, peaceful night; Till the light of the dawn shineth bright. God is near, do not fear, Friend, goodnight.
  • anyone tell me the true story about taps, heard 3 different versions . thank you . scotland

  • @rabblue no one really knows where it came from the only thing we know was it was made up sometime around the us civil war

  • Think of what the cost of your actions are . . . if you're not paying attention you not only vote your freedoms away, but the freedom's and rights of your children.

Vote always with an eye to the U.S. Constitution, it is after all one of if no the greatest document every put together for human rights. Don't just read it, study it, research it, study the framers idea's when they wrote it.

Do you realize the Supreme Court Justices studied the Federalist and Anti federalist papers? Not anymore!

  • AMERICA!!! WAKE THE FUCK UP!!! STOP SELLING OUR COUNTRY OUT BECAUSE A BUNCH OF HIPPY FAGGETS SAY ITS OKAY. OH YEAH, UP YOUR ASS OBAMA!!!!

  • @dannyhill1971lives hey thats president or mr. Obama i dont care if you like him or not show respect he is still the president of the united states

  • @SuperKriegsmarine Im not in the military any more, I am still a proud Airborne Ranger though. I am not a brain washed jarhead who blindly follows any idiot just because he holds the office of the president. I wish Obama well, but, I hope he doesn't get another term. I have no respect for him as the President, I respect him as a fellow human though. Is that okay with you Mien Furer?

  • @dannyhill1971lives

It's funny, I hold the opposite view... I'll respect the office of President, but I have no respect for Obama as a human.

  • @dannyhill1971lives you spelt fuhrer wrong and i cant be the fuhrer because im not the leader president Obama on the other hand is the leader

  • @dannyhill1971lives My Brother from another mother, I'm a former U.S.Marine and I feel as you do. We must remember our Oath: To defend the Constitution from enemies, foreign and domestic. I hope all our brother's and sister's remember the Oath as well!

Stay warm, keep your powder dry, and stay true!

  • @SuperKriegsmarine Did you call President Bush that way? How about The Great President Ronald Reagan, or is it just because he is your President? I hold the office of President dear but I hold the U.S. Constitution on high, do you?

  • @ConstitutionalTrust i call every President of the united states past and present and future by his title as Mr. President or President and i see the us consitution as a piece of paper yes some things i agree with but others i do not

  • @SuperKriegsmarine Then you were never in the service of the United States where you. If the U.S. Constitution is just a piece of paper, then the president is just a person. Tell us what branch of the service you were in? What was the Oath you swore when you entered? I await your response. . .

  • @ConstitutionalTrust i never said i was in the service know did i so please tell me when i said i was and second im enlisting in the Army im already half way through with the paper work. and you dont have to agree with it to be in the military how about you learn your american history about federalists and anti federalists anti federalists are against the us constitution however they could still join the military

  • @SuperKriegsmarine SuperKriegs'MARINE' My bad. Have you read the anti-federalist papers? they weren't against the Constitution, they were against an over-powering government. You're "joining" the Army, and 1) you don't believe in the document in pledge your life too, 2) You heard of the anti-federalist paper's, you speak of them, don't understand them and 3) you attempt to dis an American history scholar on American history. You might think of working at Mickey D's instead, they have uniforms to

  • @ConstitutionalTrust yea iv read them you must not have if so you would know they did not go for the constitution and kriegsmarines is German in case you didnt know and you dont have to belive in it to serve in the military and what do you know of serving by your name constitutionaltrust im guessing you are in the state militia who wants to impeach the president

  • @SuperKriegsmarine 6 yrs in the U.S. Marine's little boy. maybe you should have someone that understands 'big' words read and explain it to you. Try goggling military Oath, read it and tell us the U.S. Constitution means nothing. Oh, by the way, I can't impeach the President only Congress can. But, then if you read the Constitution. . . Oh well, there you go.

  • Comment removed

  • @ConstitutionalTrust ah a marine you say? what rank and what was your mos? also ever hear of "we the people" have the right to impeach the president if we the people see fit? if you would have read the us constitution you would know that we the people have that right but on the other hand being a united states marine you should have noun that to. and i have read it that is why i dont agree with some things in it. so for you being a us marine i call bullshit

  • @SuperKriegsmarine Yes, an E6, and I'll tell you my MOS when you get one. We the People can't impeach the President you moron, Our way is to have the States select electoral members vote out the President. YOu know what the electoral college is don't you? I mean your name is of German seaman going down isn't it. I mean really that's what the German navy did right . . . GO DOWN. On your BS statement you couldn't wipe my sperm off your German mothers ass.

  • @ConstitutionalTrust kriegsmarine does not mean seaman kriegs is war and marine means sea or ocean sometimes navy and for talking shit the marine corp is the navys bitch and why wont you tell me your mos? is it because you never served in the marine corp? and arnt you geting a little deferenceive over this and you must not have reade the us constitution because we the people do have the right after all it is in the us constitution unless you been reading the english constitution

  • @SuperKriegsmarine Kriegsmarine is navy you stupid naive soul. When are you enlisting your punk ass in the service? Never... you are just a clown that has no clue. You don't know the U.S. Constitution, you have no knowledge of the Military Oath. You are a 'wanna be' arien that believe the fascist/socialist crap you also have no clue of. As for my MOS you as a civilian dipstick (which all civilian's aren't) don't deserve to know it, but at first it started with 03**, then progressed to 68**

  • @ConstitutionalTrust well im going in about 2 months and i dont know the constitution your the one who does not think we the people have the right to impeach oh and you never did tell me your mos also i asked the mari ne recuter if it was possible to make E6 in 6 years and he said there is no way in hell any one could do that so unless you sucked the presidents dick yoo are full of shit about being a us marine

  • @SuperKriegsmarine He is correct, today, you cannot. But I am not in right now. Bad information in (to the recruiter) Bad information out (from the recruiter).

Ok, you keep talking of impeachment from the people. Explain how the people would 'impeach' the President of the United States.

Tell me what is the Oath you will swear too.

I have Dinner with the President twice, I had lobster and steak. It was an incredible experience. Oh and by the way he nor I are gay, unlike your Hilter.

  • @ConstitutionalTrust i dont know how you can i just know you can i dont want to impeach him im just statung the fact that we the people have that right oh and sure you had dinner with the President just like i had dinner with the ghandi. also where did you get Hitler out of all this? maybe you need to take a look and my profile again im a fascist not a nazi there is a difference. also Hitler was not gay he was a genius he just used it for evil and not good

  • @SuperKriegsmarine Yes it is obvious that you do not know...anything. I had dinner with President Ronald Reagan as a member of Reagan's Raiders we did certain things in central and south America as well as a quick saving of Navy Seal's in Granada. By the way clown the Nazi's where fascist's, try reading the history you love so much. Oh and by the way Hitler was gay, he loved the male form, and as a Aryan he was definitely into boys

  • @ConstitutionalTrust like i said and i had dinner with Ghandi also nazism is a form of fascism they are similer in some ways they are not the same thing also Aryan means "white" in case you didnt know and how could he be gay if he had a mistress and married her april 30th 1945

  • @SuperKriegsmarine many people were gay AND married hetero. elton john for example. well he married hetero BRIEFLY.

  • @SuperKriegsmarine Try studying history, Aryan were a group of people, or butt buddy Hitler was searching for, possibly to lick their stick. He believed them to be from Atlantis. But, then you wouldn't know much about the history you pretend to be a part of.

  • @ConstitutionalTrust Atlantis? you got to fucking kidding me? you think he thought he was from atlantis? also he was not searching for Aryans he thought the germans where aryans. how about this go read his book the come tlk to me also can you lay off the fairy tales to? atlantis really?of all things atlantis

  • @SuperKriegsmarine You are definitely uneducated, try researching you clown. You do not even know about the history you love... Maybe that is why you love it so. They sent researchers to many parts of the world to measure skulls and feet to look for the origins of the 'master race', you are so ridiculous. I am wasting my time talking to you about your precious German military. To point a fact they were losers. Your German race grouped blonde blue eyed women in camps... CONT 1

  • @SuperKriegsmarine ... Cont 1: The 'SS' troops would go there and have sex with them to help restore the 'master race'. You really are an ignorant little fool. You know nothing of the scum that you worship.

  • @ConstitutionalTrust so do you want to explain to me then how they had sex with people from Atlantis if no one even knows if it really exists?or for that matter where it is? but hey but can you expect from a looney who claioms to have made E6 in the usmc in 6 years when that is not possible or for that matter who claims they had dinner with the president of the united states twice. so what are you going to tell me twice the nazis escaped to the moon? talk to me when you have done some research

  • @SuperKriegsmarine Not very bright 'so do you want to explain to me then how they had sex with people from Atlantis'. Are you explaining I or other former Marine's never made E6 in less then 6 years? You are stupid, and a waste of what was probably lousy sex. I'm a member Reagan's Raiders, a group of less then 70 men from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. You are and will continue to be a phoney. So when are you enlisting? Considering 1 month ago on this post, you said in 2 months...

  • @ConstitutionalTrust how about this why dont you point out on a map the location of Atlantis if what you say is true then we would know the location of it and it would be on a map. oh and if you would like contact staff sergeant Harvey with the us Army recuting command he is my recuter. oh and what are you talking about sex? when did someone having lousy sex get into this talk? also what am i a phoney of i never claimed to bew something im not so how am i a phoney?

  • for those of you who are waxing lyrically about the duke try to remember that he was not a stupid man...he knew in later life the way things where going and was laughed at and ridiculed by many.when he spoke out against the idiots and fools who have dragged the rest of us down to there level he almost certainly would take no pleasure in saying i told you so to any of the pc madmen now running most of the world. The duke was`nt a great man .but he was a good man RIP Marion "Duke" Morrison

  • @xjr1300paul i agree with your comment for the most part except about him not being a great man. John Wayne was more of a hero then a man. he may have made some mistakes but the things that he did for his family, his friends, his fans, and people around the world are what made him a great man. did you know that during WWII that he wanted to go to war and serve his country, but his directors, producers and family wouldn't allow him too? that is a great man.

  • @bigmurrSUFI the military would not take him ether because of his age

  • The Duke wouldn't put up with this shit today...

  • @deuxchem If you studied the history as it actually happened, not the socialist rewrittened bullshit, you would find that John Wayne worked for the US Government as an actor to promote patriotism and pride. His movies showed moral and just beliefs that the soldiers, sailors and citizens needed to carry on and defeat the socialism from the Axis and the Japanese.

  • God Bless America and all who live here. May we all have freedoms that are so

deserved by all no matter where they live...Bless the soldiers from past and present and God help our Country realize that we all deserve the same freedom that we ask for...God Bless America and All Other Countries Who Yearn For The Same Things That We Do...God Bless The USA. Sincerely, Country Girl

  • Good ol Duke. Just as well you don't see how this world has become.R.I.P.

  • 4 notes, together they make up a major chord. Yet, its the saddest of all melodies, more tragic than anything in the minor.

  • Listen! America is over when WE say its over! Teach your children, that's all you can do for America. Be About something!

  • Wow. Seems The Duke made a LOT of things like this. Thanks for this post, patriotchild!

  • Every time I hear that song I stand at attention an give a salute. Then I feel sad inside because I know what that song stands for. That some young man or women has died while serving thier country. God bless all of them for they alone know what the price of freedom is.

  • john wayne my brother one day the america you knew will be here again

  • John Wayne might not have been in the military, but I think he did far more to help by his roles he played in the movies. To me he is the ultimate american. I will catch a lot of flak but I don't care . We need more like him!!

  • @biplan53 right on john wasn't a military hero but he was a hero none the less he kept moral high for the people that stayed here on the home front

  • @biplan53 Your Damn Right!!

  • @biplan53 Yes down right shame we catch flak for speaking the truth... But the again the right way is never the easy way..

  • @biplan53 not so,,,you are correct

  • @biplan53

There are more like him, my friend. Just look around. If you have "eyes to see" then you'll see.

  • Tewkusa, Audie Murphy became a star because he was a hero, AFTER the war.

  • Good ole Duke....I miss him....

  • Many people criticize Mr. Wayne for never serving in uniform, but what these people do not know apparently is that he did enlist in the Marines shortly after Pearl Harbor. His enlistment was nullified by the studio that owned his contract, which prohibited him from signing ANY other contracts while working for that studio.

  • And captainkudzu, nearly every single hollywood male star served in our military. In fact, the most decorated US military hero was also star of stage and screen, Audie Murphy.

  • @tewkusa Be sure that Jimmy Stewart is on your list!

  • I have been and will always be a PROUD American, I love this country and al my countrymen who have pledged to serve her. Maj T A Hobbs, USAR

  • God bless the two posters below me, and 603RG. I couldn't have said it better! Patriotism becomes almost a tangible thing, when you listen to one of these records.

To all the brave men who have made the ultimate sacrifice to give us our freedom, and to John Wayne for knowing it . . .

    Rest in peace.

  • @603RG... It is because of the lack of "The Dukes" that our country is in the poor state that we find it in. There is a severe lack of patriotism and that has been brought on by the sissafication of our male population. There are not many men left who would have the courage displayed by The Duke, Audie Murphy, Jimmy Stewart, Ronal Reagan and other brave men with ball$!

  • in my America Reagan is President, & the Duke is Hollywood's Biggest star

  • Freedom is not free.

  • Thank You for posting this video.

  • Taps is the most beautiful yet sorrowful songs in the world. It moves me beyond words; the pride, honor, respect, and love I have for all who it is played for is endless. Sleep well heroic souls, you've earned it.

  • I have been to the spot where Taps was written. They have put a monument in the spot.

  • While that is an extremely beautiful recording, it's not true. Taps was written by Butterfield (who enjoyed writing his own bugle calls) to replace the standard "retreat" or retire melody that the bugle or the drums played at the end of the day when the colors were retired. Taps referred to the three drum beats that were played, soldiers generically called any call "the taps" in reference to this.

  • @Neverpiefly Taps is NOT played when the colors are retired. Taps is played at 10:00pm daily while colors are retired at sunset. Also taps was not originally a bugle call, that is why there are words to the song... most people do not realize this fact.

  • @ssgtflo

Correct you are, "Retreat" is played when the colors are retired for the day. "Taps" is played at lights out and at memorial ceremonies.

  • Thankyou for posting this! Brings tears to my eyes and it should humble every American. God Bless America!

  • I always, as funny as it sounds. Try to imagine what the Duke would say seeing the state of things in this Country. Would he be proud? Or would we all be most deserving a Punch to the face. Try for one day to live as the Duke. If anything, We know how he would feel on Political Correctness. That was the Punch I was talking about..

    Sleep well Patriots, Sleep well

  • @603RG I think John Wayne would walk to the white house and punch Obama out. I now damn well Teddy Roosevelt would. He was the LAST real MAN in the office who had the balls to knock a ass out. He would knock OBAMA out on his ass.

  • @Docthewrench "TEDDY" was one of this countries first "Progressives"....he'd applaud Obama's bullshit program.......

  • @Docthewrench Amen to that!

  • @Docthewrench Amen to that! I'd rather he get a little help from Sam Colt though.

  • @603RG My guess is he's spinning in his grave to our said state of affairs today. God Bless John Wayne!
