  • I thought the whole show was quality through and through, from titles, music, graphics, presentation, subject matter, and ultimately, a fine congenial unpatronising host - Mr Bob Holness. He will be missed.

  • RIP Bob thanks for the memories loved this show.

  • RIP Bob, and thanks for the memories!

  • Gulp, sigh I think I'm going to cry.

  • can i have a T please Bob? RIP Bob Holness

  • RIP Bob Holness. Legend.

  • Did he died?

  • @sephirothpi Yes sadly.

  • Incredible!

  • As a kid, I used to think the flying lozenges in this title sequence were like the Phantom Zone thing in the Superman movie. ;)

  • This should be the Super theme in the next Sonic game!

  • I was 6. and used to love this programme.

  • epic strings halfway through!

  • What a tune! The show was so boring but Bob was brilliant! It was an odd mix though, such a cool modern tune mixed with the type of host you'd associate with classical music. Still it worked... for 10 years!

  • PLEASE do NOT read this comment. If you do, you will fucked to the nearest Friday by a Pig Fucking Slob.

  • I always thought this game was unfair, as there were 2 people on one team & 1 person on the other.

  • One of the stated aims of the game was to test the adage that "two heads are better than one". Given that the single contestants won quite often, it seemed to be evidence that one head is quite sufficient (fortunate really, as I only have one head myself).

  • @1aaronmay The two people were from college/uni, and the single person working or not

  • @martybhoy72 On episodes I've seen, the single person was a person also at college/sixth form . . .

    No contestant was from university.

  • The music is brilliant.

    The visual is great.

(I do prefer the second version visual but lots of work went into both)

  • Give us a P Bob! Classic UK TV! Will live on forever! RIP Bob!

  • Always makes me feel warm and fuzzy when I see this, reminds me so much of tea time as a child.

  • they don't do opening theme tunes like this any more do they total class

  • Bring back Blockbusters and Connections.

  • I don't think I seen this intro... Very cool!

  • Is good old Bob still with us? He must be about 150 by now.

  • Yeah he's still alive! He's 80.

  • That's awesome! Awesome to the max!

  • He is and he is not that old lol. Brad

  • Cool theme tune. Bob was great.

  • lol can i have a p please bob?

  • Yes you may its the down the corridor 2nd Door on the left!! LOL

  • during breaks between shooting, bob would often take the young female interns under his wing. there were many stories of them getting the full force of one of bobs 'gold runs' in his camper.

  • Yeah, I heard he'd give them an "F", Ian.

  • b b

  • I like the scrolling dictionary.

  • great clip, thx.

  • thing is, i was there working for the production company and met bob holness. he was an ass.

  • fuck you ian upton i bet bob was just a profesional and u were all up in his face like ooh bob holness oohh you look like the skellington off of superted lol and bob was like "Excuse me son, I have a job to do" and you never let go of that fuck you ian upton FUCK YOU

  • no way jesus. despite our disagreements we never let personal conduct interfere with the professional manner of magpie productions ltd. my job as vtr editor, assured. needless to say i went on with my career. wheres holness now ?

  • and still no signs of the theme music, ( clean)

  • Well... retired?!

  • i never thought id see the day where id be reading about an arguement about block busters lol

  • Loved Blockbusters wish challenge on sky would bring gameshows like that back!

  • There said it was not getting the rating, althourgh we did point out that There need to buy in other espoides

  • Their advisers really don't have a clue. They cut Gamesmaster too on the basis of the first series which was the (second) weakest one.

  • I loved watching Blockbusters when it was on with good old Bob Holness. A guy from my school was on it in the 80s and won about £25,lol.

  • i have a more newer theme of this its most faster paced and is only 25 seconds long.

can anyone tell me when it was used?

  • That will be the Sky blockbusters From 2000 - 2001:

  • Very hard to get that one very clean but I can try and piece it together

  • If you can Please post it!!!!!

  • I may have it, but it probably a tv rip. Brad

  • i'll have a P please bob lol classic

  • can i have a p plz bob =P

  • What the hell kinda Blockbusters is this???

  • Your prob too young to remember it, try reading the comments first before mouthing off

  • simple

it's the blockbusters from across the pond

  • Do not be dissing Bob Holness...that man is like a God to me!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh, I get it...you must be talking about the American Blockbusters...most of us on here are talking about the UK gameshow of the same name, with the same concept.

And btw, I was just being sarcastic about the "God" thing. Looks like you've seen that and raised it a little too far there...lol...

As for Bob Holness, he was the UK Blockbusters host for the era that this was taken from. If you want to find out more about him, I'm sure you can Google it or use Wikipedia or something...

  • And no need to be rude to get your point across either. You say "try reading the comments first before mouthing off"...

Perhaps you might have wanted to do some research of your own before YOU mouthed off...

  • You were Being Rude,

    1st commet:

What the hell kinda Blockbusters is this

this proves it. also UK version run for over 10 years, US well 3 years at most

  • You know, it's people like you that are making all Americans look like idiots.

  • Brilliant. This is how I learned my alphabet

  • I always loved the theme tune ! Reminds me also of the wonderful theme tune to Channel 4's "Treasure Hunt."

  • WOW, I had a nightmare, like, 10 years ago, that the title sequence for Blockbusters was set in a weird huanted house.

I must've seen this completely different title sequence at some point. I wonder if this influenced BoC...

  • cool

  • There was this Girl on the show, and as soon as Bob H asked part of every question, she hit the buzzer and got it right - every time!

    That girl was unbeatable....

  • great show

  • This intro sequence resembles the colour scheme of early CGA-based PCs (Magenta, Cyan and Black). That is kind of scary.

  • Yes he did do the music to Knightmare, simonparry08.

  • Another wonderful TV theme !

  • This was a Central classic. It was also the first half hour UK TV show to be stripped five nights a week (in most regions). Then increased to six

  • This title sequence is completely unknown to me, was this the original viewing, or was it a rerun.

  • This was the Original Titles form 1983 - 1989?

also the theme is 3 sec's slower.

  • Actually it was 1987 that they changed the opening titles as a special series called Champion Blockbusters first used the later title sequence.

  • Blockbusters........good god the memories! I think I remember watching some of these but god knows. I guess the obvious question is if anybody could put the theme or something on would be beyond great! But so mamy memories....................

  • Im doing the dance right now.

    I can't stop.

    HELP!!

  • It was Ed welch who composed the UK Theme tune.

  • didn't he also do the Knightmare music?

  • Yes he did.

The theme to Blockbusters is called "Quiz Wizard".

  • You know Gerry Rafferty wrote the theme song.

  • no relation to US Blockbusters (revival) host Bill Raverty

  • wow, the memories! i was three when this was on

  • Hi Herbert,

How old is this clip, I remember this from when I was about 4 yrs old

  • Hi. This episode was filmed and broadcast in the summer of 1986.

  • Hi there Herbert57

What a great upload of the Blockbusters intro. I think Blockbusters should return to our screens as it has been over 14 years since the last ITV version was aired!

  • wicked is there anymore titles beside the blade runner ones?

  • Again, another good version of this excellent theme tune. This version featuring new opening sequence graphics came from the 90s and was excellent to note the producers kept the exact same opening theme tune as many shows taken into another decade have the themes revamped...usually for the worst.

  • Not bad. But I prefer the titles with those hexagons flying around the city.

  • hear the ladies screaming for bob - what a legend!

  • Wow,I dont remember this intro!

  • I used to love this show everday when i go t home from school

  • Blimey!

    I actually remember this!

I was only 6 back then.. but I realy do remember that! Wow.

what a heck of a blast from the past that was. Many thanks for uploading.

  • I wonder how the Blockbusters theme was done?

  • Lots of different electronically-generated music tracks then mixed together in editing.

  • The theme for blockbusters was composed by Ed Welch. Central TV and Ed Welch released the full 3 minute version back in 1988 on 7" single. A friend of mine still has it!

  • Pacarey quite simply your mate is a legend! Any chance of uploading the tune on here or mailing us a copy?

  • I'd love a copy of this too!

  • I have a bit of BBC2's 'I love 1983' on tape which features Blockbusters. It showed a small snippet of those titles.

  • Whoa! Another intro. Thanks for posting this.

  • this Version is 3 seconds longer than the later ones used ( it was speed up)

  • Holness did all 10 years of Blockbusters! 83 - 93

  • Hey,herbert 57, thanks LOADS for sharing that with us ! What a great clip, think I can just remember that sequence, but it wasn't long before they changed it to the later one, in the Holness era - when the set had the blue background.

  • OK thats great.

  • Meanwhile in America, Bill Rafferty hosts a revival of Blockbusters

  • any full episodes of gameshows?

  • i love the way the announcer says Blockbusters - "Blockbustaaarghs"!!

  • That was announcer Andrew Lodge who said Blockbustaaarghs rfrancis51284

  • cheers for that.

  • sensational upload... thanks for uploading!

  • can i ask about the 83 Music - when it first started: was it the same as this?

  • Awesome; so many memories; thank you for uploading

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

  • Many Thanks for uploading this! :O)

  • Any chance of a full episode please? Brad
