the guitar tommy plays is completely irrelevant. I always think it's funny and stupid how people obsess over it. Tommy's guitars sound good because tommy is playing them. 80-90 per cent of a player's tone is in his hands not the wood. you think if you played that guitar it'd sound like that? not a chance.
Yeah, thanks! The Larivee also doesn't appear to have any mileage. It has that bright "new" sound that his workhorse Matons and Kalamazoo seem to be past. Hopefully it'll mellow before he gives it his first "Initiation" before doing Mombasa. :)
Tommy says he was put on earth to make people happy thru music and he may be one of the few earthling who have gotten the message from on high correct. Blessing for being a good listener Tommy !
There is nothing like Tommy in a live concert and for other venues like radio and studio he changes often to some of the best guitars in his collection. You can tell by the condition of the guitar that Tommy values many of the custom guitars he owns ( Larrivee, Henderson). He is using them more than ever on his studio recorded CDs and getting perfection from them.
Jan 5, 2010, Today I saw Tommy Emmanuel for the first time on Chanel 12, the Colorado public TV station. I have been a musician for over 15 years and I'v never seen or heard such talent on the acoustic guitar.
This is just pure inspiration for my guitar playing.
Wow that guitar sounds wonderful indeed, never saw tommy playing that one before... Too bad there is a little mistake at 1:04, but I can say I've seen a lot of video's from Tommy, and also saw him live for about 7 times, and this is the first "real" mistake I saw... I think I can say the guy plays godlike!
Yeah I've seen him live too and I've seen a lot of videos of him playing on YouTube as well and this must be the first mistake I've heard and it's a very minor one if you think of it. That's how good player he is.
lol..at the end where he says "and the crowd went wild".....i think he says that in another radio gig video where noone clapped at all! ah i love tommy
I love guitarists that can really play! So many musicians downplay virtuosos when they are unable to play with such skill I think. For example, some may say things like, "oh, he's playing too many notes" or "he's just showing off" and the like. But I think players with exceptional skill, such as Tommy, are better appreciated when we just appreciate them as they are. Look at him go! I can feel the groove and his choices are so tasteful in my opinion. Very fun guitarist to be inspired from.
Hi everyone. Locomotivation is one of the songs from the upcoming TE cd "Little By Little" (2009). Check out our channel for interview with Tommy about his upcoming cd.
I think they took very little time to figure out how best to mic it. Laravee's are known for their full, rich tone, and that recording probably does not do it justice.
I have a "Baby Laravee" that I bought when I went looking for a travel and beach guitar. I live in Taylor country, but the Laravee kicked their butt for only a $100 more.
@guitartec Keep in mind that this is strictly an acoustic instrument and has no electronics to "help" out, and not to mention that what you are hearing was picked up through a $10 microphone on a digital camera, kthxbi
Wow, I've never seen him play his Larrivee before. He told me he has 3 of them when he signed my Larivee (as you can see in my recent YouTube clips). And it sounds like a Larivee too. Crystal clear highs and mids and somewhat weak (de-emphasized, shall we call it) lows.
I have had the pleasure of meeting him & he is a fine gentleman, also a real down to earth man.If you ever get the chance to see him live GO the man is an amazing talent!
i got to meet him after his sitting in on his soundcheck in Dublin and he's a real gentleman. and then i went for dinner with him and the Joscho Stephan Trio so that was amazing. he put on a great show!!!!
i've never seen as many people excited about a man with a guitar before. it's a real gift he has.
"And the crowd went mild" Tommy said at 2:52... Funny guy!

What an awesome song this is. This Larivee doesn't hold a note to his Maton's though.

And since he doesn't stay after the concerts anymore, I got a back-stage pass and we talked for a little while. He really is kind...
