  • I love you too, thank you.

  • Hey, Chris!!! Your NOT Heavy....Your my brother!!! ANd I love you, little one.

  • I miss my brother, too. He went to heaven Oct 13, 2003. RIP, dear Randy!

  • My brother David was hit by a car on December 16, 1951 and I was two years old. The man got out of his car and asked me if he was heavy as I was trying to lift him in my arms. I said, "No he ain't heavy he's my brother." How strange this song is. He lived two days and died at 12:05 midnight on December 18, 1951. I never got over his death. His death created a lonely detour in my life. He was my only brother and my best friend.

  • My brother David Wayne Waggoner has been missing for 40 years and when I hear this song I think of him. I love you David wherever you are.

  • Neil Diamond has more depth and sincerity in interpreting any song....Here he shows justice plus the X Factor of his good looks that is always pleasing up to this point of time.....I love you Neil.....you're such a wonderful guy....

  • lol, Neil was born to sing songs like this

  • Never heard Neil's recording before. I've always liked the Hollies version but this was truly exceptlonal.

  • @Paul51B I agree that Diamond's singing of this song comes from the heart, but he did not write the song. It was written by Bob Russell and Bobby Scott in 1969, then made a hit by the Hollies (1969) and Neil Diamond (1970). It has been covered by many singers, sometimes in ways that divorce it entirely from the context of the civil rights movement that inspired it. I'm happy to hear this song from any performer who keeps true to its championing of social justice.

  • The Hollies version is great of course and I grew up thinking it was their song but Neil wrote this and when he sings it comes from the heart. This guy has written so many amazing songs and those who have covered them and made their fortune should be eternally grateful.

  • I gotta say,I love neil Daimond, but this song should be left to the Hollies. While Neils attempt is admirable,he doesnt come even close to the Hollies w/this one.

  • The Hollies are the best, a great song always finds it's singer.

  • The Hollies OWN this song!! Allan Clarke sings it with such emotion and no other group could ever match the gorgeous Hollies harmonies! HOLLIES FOREVER!!

  • I do prefer The Hollies version, but I know my brother Rog would prefer to see this one... so today as I remember my dearest brother, Rog this one is for you today....I love you so much my gorgeous angel, and miss you even more <3 Char xx

  • Yes, sure the Hollies to be preferred... Nice to see a handsome young Neil Diamond's take on it though, of course!

  • love u gavin my bro who died to young 19 love u for ever xxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Got to be one of the GREATEST singer/song writers of all time. And the music from that time period was the best. Thank God for youtube where I can still find it.

  • worse diamond prank ever

  • all the words have meaning!

  • Goosebumps! Awesome song! Amazingly sung! Message for all ages.

  • Great music!!!! great artist~~

  • @rocknrolldaddio noo neal wrote it for the hollies to sing

  • Neil must have been on downers here.

  • @infinera06 - You saw that too! I was post the very same thing. He's on another planet!

  • Maravilha !!! Tanta sensibilidade, tão longe dos esgotos que lançam em nossos ouvidos. Meu querido irmão Breno, para você que se foi e gostava desta música.

  • @afterthefox song*

  • @afterthefox he wrote the son originaly for the hollies

  • @JamieE606 What? Bobby Scott & Scott Russell wrote the lyrics in '69.

  • @rocknrolldaddio Sorry correction, Bob Russell.

  • Love it, now I am gonne listen to the version of the Hollies

  • Great song, thanks for posting! :)

  • Such a voice it,ll gives me the creeps so beautifull!!!...

  • Thumbs up if you think this version sucks compared to the Hollies!!

  • Niel is great singer and song writer but neither Niel or the Hollies wrote this song. Google it. It was Bobby Scott and Bob Russell.

  • the Hollies made this song...

  • check out myself in i know..leonardo .i know .. it not as slick as mr 'neil" but hey enjoy it anyways..

  • Songs with meaning and sung so well. Thanks for posting.

  • HE DID WRITE IT!!! HE WROTE A LOT OF HITS FOR OTHERS. AND YEAH, HE WAS GORGEOUS. TOO BAD FATHER TIME HAD TO SCREW IT ALL UP. WHEN HE FIRST STARTED OUT, HE HAD THE MOST CHARMING, SHY QUALITY WHICH WAS REALLY SEXY. THEN HE BECAME ALMOST TOO CONFIDENT TO POINT THE OF ARROGANCE. OH WELL.

  • @apples1950 , sorry but two other guys named Bob wrote it and even two other artists released it before Neil Diamond. You can research this for yourself.

  • feels it,as if he'd written it,...

  • I love this version - it is emotional, I believe the words that he would carry the person, who is not a burden, as he is his brother. How many of us would say this or can say this. It makes me really think of the next person love this version.

  • The essence of the song, whoever sings it trancends all that is for the human race to survive. Selfishness, greed. hatred towards whoever that brother is leads to destruction.

  • I lost my younger brother five years ago , I still and always will miss him, he'll always be in my heart forever.

  • I think Neil Diamond sings it well,I Think we all have a story to tell ,who will listen to my story and who will believe me any way.?

  • He ain't heavy he's my bro.........

  • OH NO!! HE JUST FUCKED UP THAT SONG!!! WHAT A WORLD WHAT A WORLD!!!

  • @pincheguerro I HOPE you never have to lose a BROTHER

  • This generation just listen idiots talking hate, problems , drugs, abuse of women, just boiling their brain to commit crime and hate nothing positive .

Great song and great singer !

  • Lwlw

  • Eye candy !

  • This is a great version....we just got spoiled by the excellent version by The Hollies......

  • 1:35

  • Best version ever is Kelly Gordon's, now finally on Youtube...

    Nothing compares.

  • he sucks...nothing near the original!!

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Never been a fan...never will be...sorry.

  • Oh God - no - from this great tune it gives so many covers. No one is nearly so great then the version from THE HOLLIES. Too cover this song can`t work, cause no chance to make it better then the Hollies. Sorry Neil Diamond you better have not sone this - it`s nothing.

  • Thanks for posing. I didn't know Neil Diamond covered this song. It's not in the same league as the Hollies, but it's nice to hear another version of a great song.

Is it my imagination, or did he take lessons from William Shatner ( Captain Kirk ). Listen the phrasing in the intro: Captain Kirk couldn't have done it any better.

  • @StarRiders100. Neil Diamond wrote this song! It's the Hollies who covered it. He also wrote songs for the Monkeys "I'm A Believer" also covered by Smash Mouth. Credit where credit is due...

  • @maraetian2000 e Ain't Heavy... He's My Brother" is a popular music ballad written by Bobby Scott and Bob Russell. .... get your facts right

  • Funny comment below about Neil "out of tune" yeah right, never misses a note, could sing in his sleep!

  • your sibling ain´t always right, but it´s always your sibling

  • out of tune

  • I'm not necessarily a fan of his rendition.. I guess It's Alright though. Great song, great voice.

  • @hunghillary which rendition do you think is the best? i love this song, wouldn't mind hearing someone else's version

  • he is very talented great voice

  • we are our brother's keepers

  • why can't more guys have this look these days? its so sexy!

  • @windstorm1000 Like the Hollies for their harmonies. Love Diamond for his awesome theatricality.

  • @windstorm1000 right.

  • I think he does this song credit,he makes it his own,as he did with Cohen's Suzzane. No dissrespect to Cohen or the hollies meant. love theirs too .

  • Prefer Hollies by far

  • @skshum Yeah, I'm a fan of Neil's. But, the Hollies version is a little better.

  • @skshum he was my ridin brother weve ridden our harleys everywhere cancer got him i miss you buba

  • @skshum, me too. This is one of those redundant cover versions with a useless interpretation which is nice for the artist himself, but noone else cares about it.

  • @skshum So do I for this one, but its a song that is great, no matter whom does it.

  • @skshum never knew they did this...

  • So so many times I have heard this song...........sweet

  • I like the voice of Neil Diamond amazing....

  • still prefer the hollies version- but not by much! ND is a class act.

  • da e unul dintre cei mai buni si in mod cert cel mai longeviv!

  • this one goues out to u grandad :)

  • @maysongbird He IS sexy, and very much still....

  • MERCI Neil ... nous l'avons beaucoup écouté à partir du 11.05.1971 ... +André Lamoureux ... était mon frère .... RIP XOX XOX XOX

  • R.IP Neil Diamond :( January 24, 1941-May 8th, 2001

  • @ddr122 Neil Diamond is still alive. He is touring in Europe.

  • @yeagerballentine Not yet, but he will start his europe tour pretty soon...

  • @NamIsIll Boy, that took a lot of time for cognitive reasoning and reflection!

  • @NamIsIll you are o motha faka!

  • @NamIsIll

no buddy he just knows he's the shit no problemo with that

  • Neil is and was the greatest!!!!!

  • This man is the best singer song writer that ever existed--seen him twice in concert and to this day he is the best performer i have ever seen--God bless Neil

  • Most beautiful eyes EVER

  • Comment removed

  • He is sooooooo fine! Beautiful eyes great lips.

  • He is sooooooo fine!

  • Beautiful! The audiences were so appreciative and polite back then!

  • Neil was a hunk back in the 1960's and 70's. Smoldering good looks, eyes that held you spellbound, and a great writer and interpreter of songs (60's and early 70's). By the time he signed to Columbia, the songs and performances went downhill. Today, Diamond has become a bit flashy and tacky - rather like a big slab of Las Vegas cheese. I'll take the dark, brooding, and introspective Neil Diamond of the the 60's and early 70's.

  • the most wonderful eyes...wow

  • @suuzq35

i do a neil diamond show. uh huh I do.

    mark

  • I don't think i ever noticed his eyes till now.

  • The Hollies cant be beat. but this version is good.

  • he,s even better today.

  • my brother

  • Brilliant. There is no other word for it.

  • Who doesn't understand..who fudge yourselves

  • another great song, and artist, a beautiful song,

  • This has to be the one ND song which sends shivers down my spine! It is just so beautifully amazing how he sings it!

  • Oh darn it all - why don't we all have a painting in the attic! Neil is sooo handsome here - tall, gorgeous, great hair, sexy eyes and lips. Yummo! Why do we have to lose our looks .. ... oh well thank goodness for videos!

  • Ein Song, der schon mehr als 30 Jahre alt ist - und bis heute nichts von seiner Faszination verloren hat - genauso wenig wie sein Sänger. Man hängt immer noch an seinen Lippen und lässt sich verzaubern ...

  • LMAO..There isn't a gay bone in my body...but I must admit..dude has some pretty ass eyes,,,,

  • neil now I am understand

  • will you be my brother... as long as your not islam

  • will you be my brother

  • this foo is wakk

  • ...Great tune, and great version!!...

  • Neil's got the patent on sexy smoldering bedroom eyes - omg I can feel a flush coming on.

  • I think I need CPR now!

  • You are wonderful..............

  • Wonderful voice, magnificent song!

    PERFECT!

  • Reminds me of my brothers in arms.... SWIFT AND BOLD....

  • wow

  • He looks like he wants to fall asleep!! This is ok but I still like the hollies much more!!Cheers

  • I just lost my brother a few hours ago AND this song came to mind spontaneously. I will forever remember him when I hear this. We LOVE YOU RALPH may your spirit live on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MyPortland1 sorry for your lost

  • @MyPortland1 sorry for your lost, but this music es wonderful and ever will be in the soul and heart

  • beautiful. Maybe should have been more uptempo - ? Beautiful sentiment.

  • my eyes are just as great

  • OMG HIS FUCKING EYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @greentrollqueef111 sooo true I wish I had those eyes

  • Neil is great, I'm a big fan and he does well on it, but the Hollie's version is THE BEST FOR SURE!

  • The Hollies version is much better known and charted far higher (Hollies to #3 UK, #7US vs ND#20US) yet the Hollies version is merely light and pretty and one could easily wonder what the song means while in this version Neil Diamond gives an emotional rendition that gives goosebumps. There are few songs he has done which the power and feeling in his voice is conveyed so marvelously. Sometimes the most powerful performance is the most restrained and here the performance is just right.

  • @artistjoh I would have to disagree with you. I am a huge admirer of ND, and he is extremely talented, but the version done by the Hollies is filled with emotion and is very powerful. This version is lush by comparison. ND gets the nod for songwriting and no one could sing any of his songs (hits) quite like him.

  • We sang this song for our Jazz choir and I did the solo. Would love it if you guys checked it out at 6carriers

    Thanks

  • I totally agree. I hadn't ever seen the BBC concert videos and just recently looked up ND on youtube. I can't get enough of him. He is so beautiful. We are blessed to have him and blessed to be living in the age of youtube. I fell in love with his music at age 14, and that was in 1971. No wonder I was in love with him.

  • The Hollies are awesome. But Neil sing this with AUTHORITY. He is telling the world to get on board, or he will stop singing Sweet Caroline.

  • No matter how many times the Hollies sing it with their chicken voices, this is Neil's song.

  • @alumcreek1 The Hollies piss all over this, the key they play it in gives Clarke the ability to sing it with passion. I love Neil but he bores me in this tune compared to Hollies......

  • @alumcreek1 Chicken voices! :-) Neil rocks this!

  • ADORO ESSA MÚSICA. É LINDA.

  • Though he released it after The Hollies released their version, Neil Diamond was the first to record this song.

  • Love you Alex. Xxx

  • Just wondering was he sleep deprived in this video or does he have a shiner? IDK but I love Neil Diamond man.

  • Rambo III soundtrack :)

  • I don't care how many times I see this video, or listen to the cd "Taproot Manuscript", I just am so in love with this guy's music!

  • I love how Neil makes this song uniquely his - his voice is just so beautiful (and so are those 'take me to bed eyes' aaarrrr)

  • That hair.

  • TOPGUN!!!!!!

  • Neil is the quintessential singer songwriter. Had he not fulfilled his career, the world would be a bleaker, less tolerable place in which to live

  • Gorgeous! And he is beautiful still today at 69!

  • Georgeous!

  • No disrespect, but I prefer the Hollies version alot. But I like this one, it's alot more calm, seems like the Hollies have more emotion in it.

  • NO crack no drugs just pure. gotta give respect.

  • Great performance, sexy voice and very handsome man, I always loved him. Still, at 03:10, OUCH ! that's way out of tune... but no one sings out of tune as well as Neil Diamond...

  • Great performance, sexy voice and very handsome man, I always loved him. Still, at 03:10, OUCH ! that's way out of tune... but no one sings out of tune as wll as Neil Diamond...

  • too bad ...! the hollies are the best and owner of this song..!

  • While I have always liked Neil Diamond, I have to say he killed this song. Nobody does this song like the Hollies. I give Neil a 6 for a good try at this song. His style of singing this song makes me think of William Shatner and that is NOT good! lol

  • @Jimmy110459

In all fairness, having seen Neil live at least 4 times, this is *not* the best performance he's given of this song. Listen to the album version, or try to find a later performance. As much as I love The Hollies' version, Diamond's is by far my favourite.

  • @Jimmy110459 lol. he wrote it. hope this helps
