A word for girls considering engineering: I have to say its an exciting field, a lot you can do with your knowledge. If you are smart and learn a lot, once you get tired of working for someone else you can become an independent consultant and retire with a yacht by age 40( I know examples). I was lucky as far as my team goes-guys at my workplace are actually respectful and encouraging, and don't treat me like a female per say, but a fellow coworker.

You do have to have a thick skin though. I work at a pharm plant in the south, and am of Russian decent (ya'll speak wif funny accints like 'et up where u r from?-yeh, heard that one too many times from operators, he-he). So I got harassed some, based on that and the fact that Im younger and cuter than an average Joe. But I stood my ground, avoided any conflicts, maintained a friendly disposition& learnt all I could.
