I agree with everything Steve Harvey said, except the Uncle Tom part. I wouldn't call Smiley or West Uncle Tom's, but I do think that they are judging President Obama by a tougher standard than they did past presidents. With West and Smiley, it almost seems like a personal attack on the President. Criticism is fine, but Smiley and West have gone way beyond criticism. They are in attack mode. Perhaps they will both be happy if a Republican wins the White House in 2012.

So I am supposed to be thankful to President Obama for a waterdown healthcare bill that does not even go into effect until 2012. I applaud Cornell West and Tavis Smiley for trying to bring attention to the problem of poverity in our community. Steve Harvey says that the President can't address these issues but I wonder why do the President have time to address issues of the middle class but lower class American issues always get ignored.

In defense of Pres Obama. I definetly think he tries to make progress for black people, the poor, and America in general, but it's hard to make changes if lawmakers and Congress won't work together with the man in order to get things done. Some of these white folks would rather see America crumble than have Obama make significant progress. GOP has long made it clear that they are not going to support the Pres on ANYTHING so Pres Obama's hands are sometimes tied.

Wow! Steve is way off the grid with the Uncle Tom comment. But he does bring up a valid point. Smiley and West have both been advocates for social justice for a long time. But African Americans have suffered as the have nots for generations. One bus tour is not gonna solve that. Calling out POTUS is not gonna be the endgame either. We as the people must first organize in solidarity, then keep our elected officials accoutable, by remembering why we elected them, POTUS included.

@Ameoz It would be even better if they'd do more than just talk about what's wrong in our community. Their non-profit organizations are a great resource and much needed for young men, but they are literally using their platform to just talk. Not as much action, unfortunately.
