@Defendership We were using just a small lava pit (our incinerator) to get rid of them during the pre-release, but it doesn't seem to work as well now; if at all during 1.8 and 1.8.1.
We even tried using the Nether multiple times; didn't work.
@Defendership I leaped into the huge lava pits in the Nether... did not burn them up for shit.
If you die to lava, from my minor testing of it, didn't drop much in regards to orbs, so I had to do /god first, get in the lava, then /kill so I'd die to /kill and not to lava damage.
Either way, it's all fucked up.
Last night, we had to have 3 of us go AFK / Sleep at around 3am just to pick up all the damn orbs. 2 of them were sitting there for a couple hours before we just went to sleep.
@Clericq3 Huh, I don't know what it is for us, then, but I tried it again after getting a few replies here and it DID work on my server. I jumped in a lava pit of roughly 2 depth in caverns below our base, burnt up, and respawned with no xp. I immediately went back to the same (nearby) pit and neither experienced lag nor saw orbs. I have no idea what our server does differently to make it work :( Either way, it's ridiculous that the bug isn't fixed yet.
@lucazlt There was a way to remove them during the Pre-Release. Someone made a file to replace in the server.jar file, but it doesn't seem to work any more.
They should remove them until they implement a reason for them, or fix them now for the future.
All they do now, is bring clients' MC to a screeching halt, and gives people like me who own a server more work with having to bring it down, and MCEdit them out.
@SharinganM21 Unsure on both. He said we'd be able to level up, and put have a skill-like-tree or something that we can level those up as well I believe.

lava will not git rid of any orbs! one monster spawner near lava can mean all hell breaking loose, this is big.smp is dead !

Yep... we all are. It was supposed to be fixed. Either way, go to the minecraft forums and tell them you're having the same problems.
They're aware of the issue I hope, and more people letting them in on it will only make them fix it quicker!
Now, if they'd only fix the stinkin' memory leak issues.

Happened to my server too. It just crashed. I had to download MCedit and remove all the orbs or else we couldn't play at all :/
Damn bug, is there anyway to remove these fucking XP orbs????
