After playing a few blues tunes at recent party, we played this song and in three seconds the dance floor was packed with an audience sing along and all. This Beetles are timeless.
As an astrologer who looked at the birth charts of the Beatles said - the combination of Libra (John), Gemini (Paul), Pisces (George) and Cancer (Ringo) was close to the most perfect example of 4 people who could not fail.
And they didn't.
In fact, they changed music completely and forever.
PS: Its also interesting, and not surprising that they were all of Irish blood.

Yeah, cowbell is a genius sound for a stereo production. And it strikes me how the bar chords are so punk long ere punk came about. Something really raw about the Liverpool sound. Gritty.
Once again, this is John with his head tilted back, a chip on his shoulder, chewing gum, and singing some powerful rock. This was HIS early album. He wrote all but a few of the songs, and was in a groove. Paul had a slack period here, and John seemed to keep it going with some of his best work.

A very observant comment. It's punk because, the original punk music/style was an attitude, not just the volume level or hair style etc., early Buddy Holly is like punk when he was emoting attitude (listen to 'Not Fade Away'). Rough around the edges, raw, primitive. Pistols did not create punk, they just made it commercial. They Pistols copied Iggy Pop and the Stooges. 60's garage bands are very 'punk' some rockabilly could be considered also...
@stickman000100 why because he's smoking? that was okay back then.. before they realized the dangers of smoking.. i have to say the beatles made smoking look hot and i absolutely despise smoking.
@stickman000100 Justin Bieber is actually a beatles fan, they were one of his inspirations, I'm not saying I like his music, his music is crap, but just saying.
John played the guitar solo.. And on Get Back, Wild Honey Pie, Ballad of John and Yoko, I Want You, and others.. He played bass on songs on multiple albums, played lots of piano, electric and acoustic rhythm.
punk is all about not taking shit from other people ant I think this music perfectly describes that atitude, so yes, in that mesure, it is punk, well whatever it is I like it and beatles rule!!
I used to play this song at full volume when I would stomp over to my bedroom after making an ass trying to conquer that one cute girl that I liked so much, but she would never turn around and pay attention to me because I wasn't one of the boys in the sports teams or in the musical marching band playing the drums. I was some nerdy geek back then after going through my trials and tribulations in life until I finally made it big. Life is good and I'm enjoying it!!! YEAH!!!!!
I used to play this song at full volume when I would stomp over to my bedroom after making an ass trying to conquer that one cute girl that I liked so much, but she would never turn around and pay attention to me because I wasn't one of the boys in the sports teams or in the musical marching band playing the drums. @xrockxxandxxrollerxx It is puck rock! For it has the immediacy of ten dogs, oozes a nihilistic swagger and bumps along angrily, like the Pistols' NO FUN :)
I'm just saying that actual PUNK musicians would probably strongly disagree. (Well, except for Glen Matlock... But that's why he was booted from the band...lol)
@xrockxxandxxrollerxx And I agree with you :) What makes it even more deliciously ironic is old Glen Matlock was (as you probably know) the main impetus of the Pistols' compositions. Never Mind The Bullocks is his masterwork, musically. I love youtube. And I'm really glad we've had this discussion.
@xrockxxandxxrollerxx Actually, Glen Matlock claims that the early punk movement was inspired by John Lennon's. 'Give Me Some Truth,' and that even Johnny Rotten liked that song... although he/they would never say so publically.
@xrockxxandxxrollerxx Glen Matlock made those comments on a British T.V. programme, "Never Mind The Buzzcocks" in 1997. this was at the time that the Sex Pistols had reformed with him in the band again. The irony is that they replaced an able bass player with a guy who couldn't strum a note, but whose image worked. How pretenscious was that.
You know, I've always found the Clash's disdain for the Beatles funny. Seeing as they were the Beatles of punk rock. And loved the same type of arrangements in their songs including horns and a strong jazz influence implemented in almost the exact same way.
But you and I know that early rock and roll is the closest thing to punk. Listen to I Wanna Be Your Man, or Not Fade Away. (Either Holly's version or the Stones)
@kingdancekiller I don't really think they hated the Beatles themselves, but more so of what the Beatles symbolized. Which, in a way, I can understand. I'm a very big fan of both bands, so I can't be biased one way or another, but I think I understand where Joe and Co. are coming from.
But yeah, I agree... In the sense of the roughness and rawness of music, early rock and roll and punk rock are very similar indeed, though the subjects of the music changed a bit.... lol
@xrockxxandxxrollerxx Well, I guess you can look at punk on different levels.. One is the music genre, but another one might as well be doing something extreme musically, something not approved by common unwritten ruIes of music.. I mean Beatles was obviously extreme for their time, they warped the whole music scene there.
After playing a few blues tunes at recent party, we played this song and in three seconds the dance floor was packed with an audience sing along and all. This Beetles are timeless.

I love how odd the notes played together for the tune at the first 3 seconds sound.

John played the guitar solo.. And on Get Back, Wild Honey Pie, Ballad of John and Yoko, I Want You, and others.. He played bass on songs on multiple albums, played lots of piano, electric and acoustic rhythm.

YEAH!!!!!

@nailinghoney2thebee1 Haha, punk rock? I've never heard anyone describe a Beatles song like that, lol. I guess there's a first for everything.
Still, I think those that partake in the actual making of such music would highly disagree, being so opposed to the Beatles and such. :)
(Lol, go listen to "1977" by the Clash.)
But I get what you mean. :P
It's the same thing as when people (John included) say "Ticket to Ride" is heavy metal. Haha.

@xrockxxandxxrollerxx It is puck rock! For it has the immediacy of ten dogs, oozes a nihilistic swagger and bumps along angrily, like the Pistols' NO FUN :)
theunsheep 1 year ago
@theunsheep Oh, of course I agree.
I'm just saying that actual PUNK musicians would probably strongly disagree. (Well, except for Glen Matlock... But that's why he was booted from the band...lol)
xrockxxandxxrollerxx 1 year ago
@xrockxxandxxrollerxx And I agree with you :) What makes it even more deliciously ironic is old Glen Matlock was (as you probably know) the main impetus of the Pistols' compositions. Never Mind The Bullocks is his masterwork, musically. I love youtube. And I'm really glad we've had this discussion.
theunsheep 1 year ago
@xrockxxandxxrollerxx Actually, Glen Matlock claims that the early punk movement was inspired by John Lennon's. 'Give Me Some Truth,' and that even Johnny Rotten liked that song... although he/they would never say so publically.
TheWanderinMinstrel 10 months ago
@TheWanderinMinstrel Yeah I know. I also heard that's why Glen was booted from the band, when he made it known he liked the Beatles.
xrockxxandxxrollerxx 10 months ago
@xrockxxandxxrollerxx Glen Matlock made those comments on a British T.V. programme, "Never Mind The Buzzcocks" in 1997. this was at the time that the Sex Pistols had reformed with him in the band again. The irony is that they replaced an able bass player with a guy who couldn't strum a note, but whose image worked. How pretenscious was that.

@xrockxxandxxrollerxx
(Either Holly's version or the Stones)
kingdancekiller 6 months ago 3
@kingdancekiller I don't really think they hated the Beatles themselves, but more so of what the Beatles symbolized. Which, in a way, I can understand. I'm a very big fan of both bands, so I can't be biased one way or another, but I think I understand where Joe and Co. are coming from.
But yeah, I agree... In the sense of the roughness and rawness of music, early rock and roll and punk rock are very similar indeed, though the subjects of the music changed a bit.... lol

@xrockxxandxxrollerxx John is singing with more emotion then any punk rocker, you can just understand him and they use an extra chord.......
jczother 10 months ago
@xrockxxandxxrollerxx Well, I guess you can look at punk on different levels.. One is the music genre, but another one might as well be doing something extreme musically, something not approved by common unwritten ruIes of music.. I mean Beatles was obviously extreme for their time, they warped the whole music scene there.
