  • Richard Dawkins is a gentleman and a scholar. He "out-graced" Bill "Douchbag" O'Reilly hand down.

  • I wish people wouldn't throw these pejoratives around. Fascism is actually a very specific political and social phenomenon. What O'Reilly means to say, I think, is that it would be 'unduly authoritarian' to not present a variety of perspectives.

  • Who is this jesus character ?

  • Oh man, look up the word fascism old man...

  • Bill O'Reilly is a.. oh hell everyone said it already xD

  • 3:47 - 3:59

Even Bill laughed at that one.

  • Bill O'Reilly is a moron...

  • Comment removed

  • Bill O'Reilly is pure idiot

  • Bill O'Reilly is a monument of stupidity!

  • Pot calling the kettle black...except the kettle isn't black

  • christians say atheists are rude and loud and its impossible to debate them,,,they should see this interview! O'Reilly called Dawkins fascist but he kept his cool like a gentlemen that he is!

  • haha when richard dawkins says "fascism?!" that's probably the closest i've ever seen him come to shitting a brick.

  • Bill O'Reilly is such a turd.

  • I hate it when "Irish" Americans call themselves Irish youre a septic Bill a yank thats why youre overbearing ,loud and stupid, He said if everybody followed Christ the world would be a better place, way to go Christian Americans we need oil lets kill some brown people and steal their oil, USA,USA. . . . God bless you. . .

  • I never understand why religous people want do destroy science..! Or attack scientists.. Is like they are afraid they will ruin their herp de derp fun! But really, they just want to find out about stuff! Oh and another thing! As soon as you say you are a atheist they attack science in your face like you freaking made that shit. So annoying. I have nothing to do with science. I support it. But the truth is I just find the God idea extremly hard to fall for. There is no way kind of. Thats it.

  • Science doesn't and shouldn't squabble with moral issues. That's what philosophy is for.

  • @mika424

    "That's what philosophy is for."

Alas, philosophy doesn't provide any explanations either.

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer It provides theories. There are no definite explanations for moral issues.

My point was that saying that science should be able to solve moral problem is like saying that painter should be able to build a submarine.

  • @mika424

    "It provides theories"

Philosophy does no such thing. Theories are provides by science, and it's the scientists' job to find evidence for those theories.

"There are no definite explanations for moral issues."

Morals reside in our brains. Our brains work chemically, so ....

    "to solve moral problem "

You mean, a moral problem like why a supernatural being would make its creation suffer for no good reason whatsoever.

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer "Philosophy does no such thing."

Normative ethics (=moral philosophy) are more concerned with the questions of how one ought to act, and what the right course of action is. This is where most ethical THEORIES are generated.

    "Morals reside in our brains"

Has nothing to do with this. Morals are individual, therefore they are only opinion and therefore, there is no definite answer that fit every situation for every person.

end of part 1 of the reply

  • @mika424

"how one ought to act, and what the right course of action is."

That one is simple: animals act according to what benefits their survival most. Human beings, being social animals, benefit most by cooperating and forming social bonds. Our morals are directly derived from that.

    "Morals are individual"

Morals are based on instincts of individuals such as empathy and sympathy, yes. But they cause us to form social bonds with other humans. No philosophical mumbo-jumbo is needed.

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer "why a supernatural being would make its creation suffer"

Not a philosophical problem. It's a theology problem. Examples of moral problems: Is right to abort a child? Is it allright to steal, if ones survival depens on it? etc.

Now, I suggest that you go to Wikipedia and read the articles about philosophy, ethics and maybe some other related articles and only then come back and we can argue more.

  • @mika424

"Is right to abort a child? Is it allright to steal, if ones survival depens on it?"

Those are not really moral really dilemmas, but rather questions about superficial "refinements" to our morality, since our big brains has burdened us with the capacity to reflect on our actions. A lot of these actions revolve on the questions whether our empathic capacities are tapped.

The answers to these questions change over time and vary between cultures, but the basis remains.

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer "they cause us to form social bonds with other humans."

What about the people who don't want social contact? or why people are eager to for socail contacts with some people rather than others? But that's not philosophy either. it's sociology and psychology.

"Those are not really moral really dilemmas"

Typo? and yes they are. It doesn't get any more moralistic from that, but if it does please do show me a "real" moral problem.

  • @mika424

"What about the people who don't want social contact?"

Also they are bound by the same instincts. The only exceptions are what we call sociopaths, and most societies are quick to sideline them.

"It doesn't get any more moralistic from that"

They are superficial matters. The question is, for instance, whether we see a fetus as a human being. If the answer is "yes", we will be against killing it. If it is "no", we will approve of abortion. In the end, it's a matter of information.

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer "The answers to these questions change over time and vary between cultures, but the basis remains."

The answers change ergo, there's no definite answers. There is no basis that fits every situation, every time for everyone. It's wrong to steal, it's against the law, but since he/she would die otherwise, it's right (from the view of that person). These views differ from person to person and so does the value of, for example, the law.

  • @mika424

"The answers change ergo, there's no definite answers."

Only on superficial matters. People generally don't like to kill other people, or to see them suffer. It's an innate instinct, that is the basis for all of our morality.

In any case, philosophy is of no use to get to any answers. It's societies as a whole that will make the decisions, not people writing unreadable books in their ivory towers.

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer In any case, my first statement still holds. Science doesn't concern itself with morality, since philosophy does it for it.

"People generally don't like to kill other people"

History proves otherwise. There are awfully many reason that are good enough to justify killing.

"philosophy is of no use to get to any answers"

Philosophy provides answers, but people don't need those answers in their lifes. You don't NEED TO KNOW how gravity works, but it's good to know that too.

  • @mika424

"Science doesn't concern itself with morality, since philosophy does it for it."

You haven't shown that at all. Neurosciences have gone much further than any philosopher ever has. We can actually see the parts of the brain in action when making moral decisions.

    "History proves otherwise"

Yes, the mechanism to let people bypass or diminish their empathic ability is well-known. It's called "brainwashing", and it generally entails picturing the "other" as less than human.

  • @mika424

"Philosophy provides answers, but people don't need those answers in their lifes."

So philosophy is useless and doesn't matter. Thanks for pointing that one out.

"You don't NEED TO KNOW how gravity works"

    False analogy is false.

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer I'm saying that there are facts and theories that average people don't need to know to get along with their average lives. If you go to the street and ask every person there "how long is your small intestine?" most of them wouldn't know, but they don't need to know it for it to work, yet some person sometime saw it fit to measure the average lenght of small intestine. Useless? Maybe, except for some doctors who most likely have some applications for such knowledge.

  • @mika424

"'m saying that there are facts and theories that average people don't need to know to get along with their average lives."

You're comparing philosophy to science. That's a completely false comparison. In science, we try to find objective measurements to know about the world around us. In philosophy, anything goes, as long as it sounds profound.

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer Exactly. Just like religion, but unlike religion, it does no harm.

And as for neuroscience, it may show up what happens in the brain, but it can't define why or provide answers to what is wrong and what right and what makes people think that way. and since no one is gonna look into it deeper (except psychology) philosophy was born.

  • @mika424

    "philosophy was born"

Because science had yet to be invented.

  • @MomoTheBellyDancer Funny to say since it gave birth to some fields of science.

"Philosophy is the study of general and fundamental problems, such as existence (theology/evolution), knowledge (psychology), values, reason, mind (psychology/neuroscience), and language (linguistics)" I have to agree, philosophy is losing it's ground, but let's not kill it yet, atleast not before religion.

  • @mika424

"Funny to say since it gave birth to some fields of science."

More like that it got superseded by science.

"Philosophy is the study of general and fundamental problems"

Philosophers rarely study anything. They merely pontificate.

  • @mika424 There was a point where philosophy and science (words) became quite synonyms in the past. But really, religion and philosophy are very different.

  • One of my deepest hopes is that Einstein is remembered longer than Jesus.

  • Creationism has no business in a science class.

Leave creationism in the churches where it belongs.

  • It's scary to think there are millions who believe in Richards mindless ignorant rants.

  • @The1OnJesusSide I think it's scary that BILLIONS believe in the mindless ignorant rants of religion.

  • It is scary to think there are millions who believe in bill's mindless ignorant rants.

  • Bill O'Reilly needs to be put down, his is adding to the stupidity of American

  • Awww, you're wasting your time on this stone-age throwback, Richard. Just leave him alone with his invisible jesus (who apparently created himself), his 6,000yo universe and his flying dead angel people. I can't think of a worse punishment for this jerk-off.

  • This Bill O'Reilly is so stupid, he seems like a child.

  • O'Reilly is such an ignorant fool! He's basically saying that religion should be taught in science class. Wrong, Bill! Science gets taught in science class. If I'm not mistaken US courts have ruled that it is unconstitutional to "present" religion as part of the science curriculum. Bravo Prof Dawkins for tolerating this asshole!

  • @mattetho LOL! You're funny!

  • LOL....this is Dawkins' fault. He knew Fox News is fucking bullshit (especially the O'Reilly Factor), and he really should not have come on the show.

  • Christopher Hitchens would've kicked O'Reilly's ass. I love Dawkins, but his debating skills are not functional for the arena of Fox News' shortened-attention-span-protocol.

  • Dawkin's restraint when debating with these dummies time and again is nothing short of extraordinary. I love the man.

  • lol Richard's face when he goes on about how great Jesus is 1:48 ish~

    haha what a legend

  • Fox News, spreading shit to american minds for the sake of God.

  • Bill O'Reilly is an asshole!

  • how dare he say that he's irish. bollox

  • @Whyyousuchadumbbutt So you've rather pathetically registered the user name Whyyousuchadumbbutt just so you can get onto YouTube and tell people to shut up. Americans get the media they deserve. You have to leave it to Brits like Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens to do your fighting for you because you're too lazy to do it yourselves. You spend your whole time posting stupid comments on YouTube instead of getting off your butts to stop your country being taken over by religious fascists.

  • "Will you listen to me and stop shouting at me?"

    lmao

  • What if you're wrong guys? You could go to hell.

What if the god you are worshipping is the wrong god and you get sent to hell for worshipping the wrong god? If you were a god, what would you hate more? Someone not worshipping you? Or someone worshipping a fake god for stuff you did?

I'm gonna stay on the safe side and not worship or believe in any god until I see evidence.

  • bill seems to think strength in numbers is a defence against being called a retard.

fairytales should NEVER be taught as fact in the classroom PERIOD.

let alone fairytales that advocate genocide, infanticide, rape, murder, homosexuality, slavery, sacrifice and bloodletting...

  • I cant believe americans are actually watching this guy.. Holy shit.. Literally.

  • @Marakulous43 Define "politically correct". It's a meaningless phrase to me. Are you saying that all 60 million of us in Britain are "politically correct" ? Have you met all of us ? What is the relevance of your comment to my question about the apparent poor quality of the American media ?

Does making a comment on You Tube actually change anything ? Isn't it just pissing in the wind ?

  • @howler95uk Shut up. You seem annoying. Therefore all Brits are annoying. That's how stereotypes work. Blah Blah Blah

  • Gosh Bill O'reilly is stupid

  • @trolldull He does seem like kind of a smart guy, but wow he sure loves being an asshole.

  • If they can teach intelligent design in school, can we teach evaluation in church?

  • @Cogitatio023 that goes hand in hand with Dr. Neil Degrase said about how There not ever being a moment in which Science Teachers have been outside of churches Protesting and chanting "teach the controversy".

  • I hate how False News photo shopped Richards picture to make his eyes dark >: |

  • I've gotta stop watching these things...pretty soon I'm gonna be shouting at the screen and waking my landlord's family.

  • @splicedenergy I looked up Roger Ailes on Wikipedia and he looks pretty dodgy too.

As a Brit I'm interested in the question what media do you have in the USA which has anywhere near the impartiality of the British Broadcasting Corporation or Channel 4 news. Does such an organisation exist ? Your country seems to be sliding towards a kind of religious fascism.

  • @howler95uk

It's hard to say. Personally I do not think there is one outlet because the government and CIA are embedded in our media the same way MI5 & MI6 are with yours (e.g. Operation Mockingbird & Operation Mass Appeal) But I can name some people in the media here who buck the system here and are very honest and speak the truth and they are Judge Napolitano, John Stossel, Jack Cafferty, and Dylan Ratigan but that's just about it.

  • @howler95uk IMO, the main failures of US press are that they don't go into depth, are completely unable to hold civil debates and have an unhealthy ownership structure. Impartiality isn't really something I want to have served to me. I'd rather seek it out myself by checking out an opposing news outlet.

  • Oh yeah, I just woke excuse me I forgot for a sec that Jesus is a myth

  • It's a SCIENCE CLASS! Not a religion class, so religion shouldn't be brought up in a SCIENCE CLASS.

  • As a Brit I can't believe you allow ignorant arseholes like O'Reilly to contaminate your TV schedules. Fox News is part of the Murdoch empire which hopefully will be brought down by the Miller Dowler phone-hacking scandal in the UK.

    Good riddance to it.

The BBC would never allow Dawkins to be questioned in such an ignorant bullying manner.

  • @howler95uk Fox was also invented by President Nixon and Roger Ailes.

  • @howler95uk The British are too politically correct

  • @specialfx34 You are 101% correct!

  • Why Dawkins guy even bother coming into these chrisitian old lady show.

  • Fvcking douchebag, idiot, loudmouth moron. See, Bill, in science class we teach... Science!!!!! There will always be a gap in human knowledge and that gap is not an excuse to teach the idea that it was done by magic.

  • bill orilly thinks jesus had an idealistic society? yeah, it's called communism. maybe he believes in supply side jesus instead. there seems to be a lot of confusion about the two, see al franken's video on the subject.

  • "All the alternatives?" All of them?!? Those poor kids will be in school until they're 100!

  • I have never felt less proud to be Irish than at this moment

    Fuck you Bill 'O Reily

  • @specialfx34 Not a hippie, more likely a terrorist.

  • 4:11 "Fascism!?!" the delay, the surprise in his voice...perfect.

  • so much wrong in this... i dont know where to start

  • Bill O'Riley is fu*k'ed up :P

  • Least Bill apologized for being loudfuck, to hear that rarely coming from christians...

  • Dawkins is like the stereotypical scientist voice.

  • I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.

    Gandhi

  • I feel sorry for the USA when a person like bill o reilly's opinion is regarded highly enough to be on television, I am so happy I was born and live far far away from all these god bothering fools.

  • @dova868 where?

  • Bill O'reilly is the stupidist piece of shit on this earth and represents everything I hate about this country

  • O'Reilly is a total Shit-for-brains. How people can even bare to watch this cretin is totally beyond me.

  • I whould also tell him that if creationism should be taught equally to evolutionism in schools, then all of the other faiths in the world should have their views on the creation taught equally to. The problem with that will be that the kids wont graduate until their 40 years old, but its the only fair thing to do if religion has to invade science classes.

I whould also tell him to help me pass a law to force churches to teach evolution equally in their sermons.

  • @Porkusido why? isn't that extremely cruel? How can you possibly FORCE a religious group to betray their beliefs when they are causing no harm in following them? fool

  • @selfexplanatorz Who's talking about forcing anyone anything? i just typed what i would have taken up for a discussion. Like the fact that Jesus preached what he calls socialism and hates, but he still says he follows him, which i find very disturbing.

I also find it weird that he wants HIS religious interpretation to be forced into science class, but i am pretty sure he doesn't want every religious view to be taught, aren't you?

  • @selfexplanatorz Last but not least. If he thinks creationists should be allowed to force themselves into science and force teachers to teach creationism in science class, shouldn't science get to force themselves into churches?

I don't want science in churches and i certainly don't want a fascistic religion hour in science class. What i typed was equal rights. IF he wants it as he says, then the equal rights means that it should be the other way round to, otherwise hes just a hypocrite.

    Follow?

  • I really wish i could have had a debate with O'reilly because i whould have asked him why he says he believes in Jesus christ and his message when he clearly doesnt follow it at all.

This i whould prove by telling him about all the times hes said hes against redistribution of wealth so the poor can have a shot at a dignified life.

Jesus was for universal healthcare, he wanted to rich to share their wealth and for the strong to help the weak in a society, O'reilly clearly wants the opposite.

  • Irish? Please don't insult us...

  • Dawkins face when O'reilly says thats fascism, i honestly replayed that like 6 times.

  • Bill O'Reilly is a troll

  • I'm surprised Dawkins didn't point out that Bill-O's point was actually the fascist one!

  • You're damn right I'm not pleased sherlock! (I being the Irish people!) For shame! O'Reilly reinforces the AMERICAN stereotype fantastically!

  • Creative design?

  • "YOU JUST HAVE TO PRESENT IT!!!!!" " Will you listen to me and stop shouting?"

  • O'Reilly's stupidity is epic. I mean, from 1 to 10, he's definitely a 14

  • I bet the Irish aren't very pleased.

  • Dawkins' face at 1:51 is absolutely priceless.

  • @phxsns1 LOL

  • wt is the IQ of this caveman

  • lower than 0

  • @mideastatheist No insults to cavemen, please! ;P

  • @mideastatheist His Iq is actually quite high. He did go to Harvard and get excellent grades.

However he's still a stubborn asshole who is so set in his beliefs that he cant look at situations in ways that contradict his ideology.

Having said that, Dawkins did a pretty shitty job here, there were alot of things he could have said here that would have made Oreilly look quite stupid. (For example, Bill'O obviously has no idea what Fascism is) and better prove Atheism right or Christianity wrong

  • Does...bill..o'reilly...really...believe...what...he's...saying?

  • Has Bill ever heard of the seperation of church and state? A piublic classroom is funded by the state, and the christian theory is that of the church. They are seperate, it was ruled that way in court and the number of "alternatives" is infinite. Not to mention that in a science classroom science should be taught, not a theory that is getting by (as bill seems to have said) on pure numbers of people who believe it.

  • Everyone, don't get mad at this. It's your own fault for watching a video with Bill O'reilly iun it. From the title you can tell that the host of the clip (bill) should just be stuck in a hole somewhere with as many tons of feed as he has brain cells.

  • Present all alternatives? Sure. Present bullshit and sell it as absolute truth? Get your head out of your ass, will you?

  • Dawkins is facist? Bill is a hypocrite. What about the part when bill says you have to put both sides of the argument in a science class? Thats not facism? Bill you fucking idiot go die please for us all

  • I don't usually get mad at videos, but Bill O'Reilly made it possible.

  • @STARBARTZZ Craig is a philosopher/apologist not a scientist. I saw some photos of giant skeletons but those were not real(I believe they were entries in a contest). You aren't referring to that are you? I think the ark has been "found" many times in recent history. None of this would be good at all in a science class room(especially Craig).

  • Christianity is a RELIGION which has its own lesson, RELIGIOUS EDUCATION (R.E)

Science is SCIENCE which has its own lesson...SCIENCE

Dont mix each other up because they contradict each other. (btw im atheist)

  • Bill O'Reilly's whole argument is "Yer,but..."

  • @STARBARTZZ

LOL @ extinct giants, Noah's ark, and William Lane Craig.

  • @STARBARTZZ Oh, can you direct me toward the science that supports the believers? I'm not being sarcastic.

  • @STARBARTZZ It's fascist to keep non-science out of the science classes?

  • What Bill fails to show during that "key moment" is Richard totally destroying his "you guys don't know argument". Watch that clip, Richard makes him resort to changing the subject by making some stupid joke about Apollo. Fucking Pathetic. Fuck Bill O Reilly.

  • Irish Anti-theist here.

FUCKING O'REILLY.FFS I was getting annoyed when watching this, but when that piece of scum, gene pool polluting, nasty, biblebashing, etcetera etcetera. said

" you know what we Irish are like" I actually nearly proved his point by loosing my temper.

Bill, you are American, not Irish, does he understand how insulting that is to us Irish.

I suppose, if Dawkins was of African heritage, O Reilly would give him a spear.

I've never been so offended on so many levels before

  • Bill O'Reilly disproves the existence of an interested God, as surely he would get someone that's less of a retard to evangelise on his behalf!

  • ANUS HEAD

  • whats the time?

  • nigers are made of chocolate. NO LIE!!!

  • yo

  • hello?

  • woooooo waaaaaaaaaaaaaa peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • jh,jhhkf,.k.mnfffffffffffffffffffffhghhhhhhvnbcvncvncvn

  • nbm,jh,jhhj,f.kfh.kfj.kj

  • vjhl

  • fuck all you athiest/christian bickering fools get over your selfs. Ironic how similar opposite ends of the spectrum are. pathetic! why do i evan feel the urge to comment?

i guess im no better then the rest of you fuck wits haha oh wait! im drunk :) sshh dont tell anyone!

  • fuck all you athiest/christian bickering fools get over your selfs. Ironic how similar opposite ends of the spectrum are. pathetic! why do i evan feel the urge to comment?

i guess im no better then the rest of you fuck wits haha

  • i wish all you guys were dead lol

  • It is embarrassing to watch such a deluded bastard like O'Reilly vomiting his typical stupidity and idiocy. It's such a nonsense ! This worm embarrasse the american people.

  • This O'Reilly guy doesn't seem to be the smartest man on the planet. He talks a lot and loudly. Still I can enjoy watching him sometimes. Besides his uncritical beliefs he isn't a too bad guy, is he? I'm not American, so I might miss some important info about him. If so, then please enlighten me :)

  • I respect that he apologized to him at the end.

  • Let me say it again, Bill, you're an idiot!!! This is why America is going down, cause stupid religious people are following people like Bill and jesus. Wake up!!! You'd think by now would see that science is much more credible...

  • Bill is an idiot!

  • To rid the world of Bill O'Reilly would be a dream come true and would spare humanity is stupidity.

  • Science deals exclusively with verifiable reality. Suggesting that science should give credence to any half-baked ideas that people believe in without any realistic justification is asking science to go against its own purpose.

You want to study God? Take a class in theology, go to a bible school - no one is stopping you. In a science classroom all you should learn is science - rambling philosophical conjecture has no place there.

  • Where O'Reilly is making the mistake is in saying that the ID issue should be discussed in a Science class. This is not correct because philosophically speaking science is only concerned with empiricism. It's fine to discuss ID but that should preferably take place in a philosophy class. I know O'Reilly can come across as a dick sometimes but he's at least right that students are entitled to know about how these issues are commonly viewed.

  • Ironic. Fascists were Christians - blessed and backed by the Catholic and Protestant leaders in Germany and Italy....and killed as many Atheists in WW2 as they could get their hands on.

Oh what a fucked up world we live in when a Christian cries "Fascist" to an Atheist.

  • I hate O'Reily and I hate Fox News. Chodes.

  • you people should be ashamed of having such video shows and hosts on your network when greater things of concern are taking place in the world around, Cant you people see all this is just a big cover to turn you peoples attention from the real deal. Shame on fox and all the big corporate media's

  • Bill just needs to listen. That's his problem. He's simply ignorant. Maybe if he listened rather than shouting down Richard Dawkins; who quite frankly is a man Bill should show a greater respect to, he just needs to realise just how much science has actually uncovered. Plus, I don't think he has grasped the fact that just because science can't explain something now, doesn't mean that it wont be able to explain it tomorrow, or next year or in 10 years time. Science is progressive! Realise that!

  • "creative deisgn" lol

  • Name one good deed which a religious person can perform that someone who is a non believer cannot.

  • And also, the whole argument of "I cant explain how the universe came to exist, therefor God did it" is just plain stupid. It shows more about your lack of intelligence and imagination than it proves anything about the universe. Just because YOU cant explain something doesnt mean there isnt a rational explanation.

  • I wonder if O'Reilly would be ok with "presenting" in science classes that Zeus created the universe? How about Odin? How about all of the other 3000 gods that have ever been worshiped by man? But no, I havent ever heard him talk about those. How convenient that the only alternative he ever wants to bring to science class is the Christian God. And BTW no, Creationism or ID are not valid alternative theories to bring up in science class... since they are not science in the lesat.

  • As some one documented as both a Catholic and a Nutjob, I have to defend myself by saying this: Bill O'Riley, are you retarded? Religion is in what you feel, not what you see. And just because you haven't learned everything is no reason to reject all knowledge. You're not talking about Christianity, you're talking about fearmongering. And you give Religious Nutjobs, like me, a bad name.

  • I love it when dawkins is like "Fascism?"

He said "fascism?" but what it sounded like to me was "go fuck yourself, chode"

  • I love it when dawkins is like "Fascism?"
