Why oh why didn't Lambo follow through with the Miura concept a few years back. It would have been a nice reprieve from Countach and Diablo. Instead, we get the Murcielago and Gallardo. Nothing new, just updates on an old form. Sad. :(
Cerrone album 'Supernatural' makes me want to ride this baby, im 23, born after this car, my fav soccer player George Best, i can only dream of that era...70s were amazing
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree
i mean no offence or anything like that but i can't help noticeing how simular the rear on the miura and the original datsun Z look, aswell as other sections of both cars but the rears look the most simular. anyone else agree?
True, but the Shah of Iran stole a lot from the Iranian people too, and he was hardly a juste man by any measure. Some would argue he was a benevolent dictator, and he DID imprison anybody that dared writing or saying anything bad about him. The guy was a puppet, who sowed the seeds of the Islamic revolution (which made Iran even worse), due to his harsh politics.
History is full of stolen property. The Shah shouldn't have been buried with this car if you imply that.
@McLarenMercedes The Shah I remember as child in the 70's was OPEC's biggest hawk, driving oil prices higher and higher, I cannot see why his enemies say he was a Western Puppet when he did so much to damage Western economies. In so far as human rights. Iran was then and perhaps to a degree now, a kinder and gentler place than Saddam's Iraq or even Saudi Arabia. I would not want to live under an absolute monarch but he did much to develop Iran. Unlike the current regime.
Originally he was a puppet of western regimes. He provided them with what they needed for which he got a nice deal, which mostly benefitted him. Later he realized that he was sitting on gold and the OPEC countries realized their oil became very valuable. So the Shah was disposed. How? Well, some claim the 1979 revolution was influenced by the west. Little did they realize that Khomeini would return and turn the clock back centuries for Iran. At first Khomeini was seen as a hero.
I agree about Iran being a gentler place than Saddam's Iraq or Saudi Arabia today, which is a country in which the law is derived from Sharia, on the same level as in Iran or even more.
The Shah did come to power by overthrowing the democratically elected president Mossadeq in the 50's. With a lot of western help.
Even though the Shah did a lot for Iran there's no smoke without fire and people getting sick of him had good basis.
@McLarenMercedes But the Shah could never have held power so long after Mossadegh's fall had he had not the support of many Iranians. Strange the current clerical regime is repeating all this mistakes.
They are deeply religious (the current regime) and are very much stuck in the past. I am no expert on either Islam or Iran, but I do know that their law is derived form the Quran and it's seen as the "ultimate truth". Iran suffers from a lot of "brain-drain" too, since many scholars and highly educated iranians fled the country. Many of them are deeply disappointed what has happened to Iran.
Interestingly enough there's a lot of "grey-zones" in Iran. Iranian metal bands and such.
@McLarenMercedes I lived in West Los Angeles in the area they call TEHRANAGLES and met many Iranian people. Most fled when the Shah was deposed but many newcomers as well. Shocking what happened to Iran.
Iranians are the second largest foreign group here after the Finns, and I've met plenty of Iranians in medical school and in University campus. One Iranian told me:"Iran is the only country that was developed that devolved itself 200 years back and is still going backwards."
I've seen Iranian commercials from the 70's, pre-Islamic revolution, and it's hard to understand how such a western oriented country forbid all that for strict censorship and "pure muslim values".
Speaking of Lamborghini's, there's a story that Farah Diba, the wife of the Shah, was the first ever owner of a production Lamborghini Countach back in 1974. I forgot which color it was. I think the Shah liked Mercedes's and Lamborghini's. However other sources claim that the first Countach was delivered to an Australian businessman, and yet another source claims the first was delivered to some wealth Italian in Milan.
Just making sure the car enthusiasts don't complain.
@McLarenMercedes There is a 1974 LP400 Countach in the museum in Tehran, I find it hard to believe a woman of royal dignity like Farah Diba driving such a car. It must have belonged to the Shah or some other member of the royal family. This Countach was Serial Number 112.0190, redish color with tan leather.
I was working on "Face/Off" when this car was delivered to Nick Cage on the Paramount lot. We knew each other from another show we'd been on and so he was telling me about the Miura and it's provenance. He started it up but was called to the set before he could even get it into gear. The sound of the engine was deep and awesome, but I seem to remember the color being a more gaudy shade of purple.
@bdabeast05 Actualy that is false. The newer ones are far faster, have better engines and night-day traction. The Miura is an amazing looking car but I love the stealth fighter style modern lambo.
