I didn't care for Bush but Gore is even worse. You can't believe anything that idiot says. His wife left him for a very good reason and people are starting to find out what that reason was. He is one weird dude.
Wikipedia search Ma Lia Massacre Colon Powell for your answers. He wound up as a presidential adviser for his part in that Vietnam disaster. Had Private Manning's superiors just followed procedure. Done their jobs. Even tho it would have been costly in both cash and face. As well as require a formal apology to the next of kin of the victim's of that Apache Helicopter debacle. CableGate wouldn't have happened. We still haven't learned. How sad..
This whole three hours was a waste of time for anyone with a working memory over 15 at the time during the aftermath of the "Ma Lia Massacre" Vietnam war era. The Govt. set in place the fore runner to the recent whistle blowing laws. Military rules and regs, and private sector statutes that were circumvented by Mannings superior officers. They are the ones that should face trial. War crime cover up is what brought us this mess. Don't need new legislation. Just honest people with morals.
Nader = a brilliant man and a terrific statement. We need more like him.
"Secrecy is the cancer, the destroyer, of democracy."
This is what Bush/Clinton years have brought to us, stemming from the beginning of the CIA with Bush Sr. Time to get rid of them and repair all the damage they have done.
@DerKoniggratzer88 im bunged up in this vid so it is very possible.. im allergic to weed.. fuckin sucks ass. for real. i am utterly depressed by this revelation.
Why is that when you are covering things words are much complicated than when you are telling the true. Ralph Nader speech was superb and clear. Hope things really do change but I doubt it... the agenda is too big for them to back up now, plus the congress seem to like to be stampede by the few with the money.
@AGodlessProgressive i have heard some negative stuff about him but im not familiar with his history, but on this issue and in this debate, he was effin SPOT ON.
@SkidRowRadio That's the thing though, he' s always right. People like to blame him for Gore losing in 2000 to Bush, but Gore didn't lose, he won by half a million votes. We just have a corrupt system that overthrew the will of the people. It wasn't Nader's fault, but he got blamed for it b/c people are spineless and refuse to stand on principles and take the easy way out.
Just got through it all, also downloaded / screen recorded. A lot of technical legal issues which are a bit of an aside to the real issues of persecution of free speech. Luckily there are a few allies on the commitee whom seem to understand this, which give me hope. I hope in time to do my Critical thinking ana on this vid, its going to take forever but i think it'll be worth it.
@Hythloday71 look forward to it fella. glad you watched it, i hope the decisions that are made take stock of the rational arguments made here. the danger is that the irrational shit we heard is favoured.
I would like to see a public discussion of the criteria for classifying and declassifying documents. Are the principles underlying classification of documents rational from the point of view of the health of a democracy? Or only rational from the point of view of corporations using the U.S. govt exec branch.
@MyVeryBesttoYou no worries. yes there should be a debate on that. the fault here lies with the gov, and not just for the stuff we've learnt, but for the oevr classification in the first place. the response from the right is disgusting and not something a 1st world country should even tolerate.
When i saw "Most important Wikileaks video OF ALL TIME!" my first thought was.... 'oh yeah... sure'! However it is a very god vid... thanks for the upload.
@AtheistInTheHat i hope it does open the doors yea. if they adhere to law and the constitution and really think about the consequences oftheir actions, if they really have the peoples interests we will see it in their response. likewise, if they seek to further gov control we will see a clear sign of their totalitarian leanings. not that that needed any confirmation at this stage
@Diasanti I think Nadar refers to the aggressive militarization of Germany. The mistake he makes is that the American people KNEW about this and in fact supported it. Nadar is right about the need for disclosure, but this speech is another example of the problem I have with him. He's too far to the Left for the folks on the Right to take him seriously... and he's to close to the fence to make a radical like me happy.
Nadar is always good. Hope this gets some exposure beyond C-span. For all the talk of "protection from tyranny" and "the preservation of freedom," the real issues that arise from these things rarely get a second look.
I can't find a link to 'download' either. Thanks for sharing this 1hr in, a worrying tone by most, of the officials and witnesses, too much language of fear mongery. A guy who has supposedly wrote a monumental book on freedom of speech calling for 'special pleading' for the special nature of wikileaks. Also, he justifies this call by the impossible ignorance about the 'possible' harms... i'll watch it all. Would love time to analyze, hopefully i will produce something on this over xmas.
@Hythloday71 there isnt a download link. but if you have realplayer or somethin some programs can download any video it sees. the original link i had seems to be not workin so i put a new one in now.
It is not that the few are deciding for the many, it is that the few are not representing the wishes of the many.
I wish the debate, actually mattered but it's past the point where this means anything, unfortunately. Whatever the USA may have been, at one time, it is now an evil empire, very close to it's destruction.
@rollsthepaul you're right. but if there is enough public awareness of the real issues and if we can limit the horrendous rhetoric comin out in opposition like calls for assasination, if those people can be held accountable and if the rule of law can be properly applied, it is possible that things will work out for the best. i really couldnt call it either way tho. these are important times.
@neversawthatcoming lol! yea he totally did. there were a couple of other speakers who showed sense too. there was also some assholes talkin shit tho. depressin that corrupt and empty rhetoric permeates every strata of gov tho.
it is a really good initial hearing. all the speakers seemed to pay some heed to the Constitutional issues, and i thought there was a relatively good balance of those making statements.
you're spot on when you state where the stronger arguments are, but you and i are more inclined to see it that way. i'm resubbing to C-span (was the first youtube channel i subbed to, but unsubbed after inauguration of Obama).
Ralph Nader, unfortunately, will always be seen as a fringe activist. its too bad.
thank u for this video... system has to chance! which means WE MUST CHANGE IT!
