I was an assistant trainer for Ringling. I will admit that there were a few bad trainers and they were reported by me and fired very fast. Training rules have become alot more humane in the last 10 years. Now the animals only do five shows a month and they are rotated in between shows. Also, Ringling has five HUGE ranches in the U.S. alone along with several more world wide they only do six months of shows a year, then are rotated for a six month break. Go to the circus, take your kids have fun!

Oh, and Ringling has partnered with Mike Kent's Exotics, so they no longer deal with big cats directly. Mike is a world renowned conservationist and his breeding programs that use DNA to locate sub-species/species that are extinct in the wild and through carefull breeding has succeded in bringing back the Cape Lion, spotted lion,Chinese Tiger, Amur Leopard, clouded Leopard, and he now thinks he has enough bloodlines to bring back the Japanese Tiger! So, darn those evil circus' ! LOL

They don't do stupid tricks and they are free to roam and live with their families. You of all people should know how bad circuses are for any and all animals. @Kagome811 Ok,what do YOU suggest we do with our surplus elephants? There is no room for them in the wild,and even if you could find room, elephants need years of learning to survive in the wild. Those are skills they just don't have and can't be tought in captivity. I don't know if you've heard of it or not but my home state(TN),has the largest elephant Sanctuary in the world and I work there.We get abused circus elephants all the time,but the healthy mentaly stable ones all come from Ringling!
@Kagome811 Asian Elephants, in general,don't walk as far in the wild as African or forest ones do,so most circuses use them. As you already know,they are very smart and they require mental stimulation 24-7 and when they don't get that they"go dead"and never seem to fully recover. I make sure that the elephants have a trainer avalible all the time and that the never got bored. The best way to help captive elephants is to work with the ppl who keep them and make sure they know what they are doing
Please don't support PETA! I'm a zoologist and have worked with former PETA members who were shocked to be asked to kill all domestic animals by PETA. They have a goal to get rid of "slave animals" leaving only wild ones. They take advantage of their members by taking their money never telling them they are funding this slaughter. Check out the documents and the undercover video online. The SPCA and AHC are much better groups to fund! Don't fund CULTS like PETA unless you want to kill pets!

This isnt abuse. First of all, I live there and I actually WATCHED the elephants. They gave them treats and said "good boy!" or "good girl!" To them when they were good, and re-directed them when they were doing it wrong. As I know, Austin is a diffrent city. I should know.

Everyone should go to Cirque Du Soleil is safe and no animals are being used to create a show. Ringling Bros will drown when WE take action and rescue those poor animals from abuse. I advise you all to show up and protest if this circus comes to town. Let's save these animals! Animals deserve to be loved and cared for!! We need to speak out for the animals!
Each and everyone of us needs to educate our friends and family and they do the same so all of this gets out and put these assholes OUT OF BUSINESS. When you know they are coming in town, post the animal abuse info on craigslist and attach some of the vidoes.

Firstly, an elephant's skin is up to 2 inches thick... that's 20x thicker than human skin. Secondly, I bet 90% of the people who commented have no problem eating meat, riding horses, or sitting on leather seats. I can guarantee that those animals are treated far worse than these elephants. Lastly, if elephants only breed when they are happy, how come Ringling has the only sustainable herd of elephants in the western hemisphere?

@retownsend I have Lipizzan horses and no they dont get abused in any way physically or mentally. They are show horses who have the run of the pasture, have climate controlled barn and eat best food. My horses are like my dog. They are my pals for life..even after retiring from show.

And even if the elephant hadn't been killed or removed from the circus for attacking a human, it would NOT be performing in a show so quickly afterward that there was still visible blood on its inhumane wound.

I went to the circus with my daughter and while i was standing in line i heard someone say "here they come" and when i looked it was Peta with signs and i couldn't stop staring at the signs to the point that the lined moved and my daughter said lets go. Then once i got inside I was absolutely disgusted at the fact that the animals are forced to perform. I thought i wanted my daughter to experience the circus but i will never EVER go again...in fact how do i sign up for PETA!!!!
This female elephant was in circus in Dallas. Well this little guy mouse climbs up a ladder behind her and just starts sweet talking the hell out of her. The elephant is so in heat, and so ready for anything, she turns around and backs right up to him. This little mouse just starts screwing the hell outta of her, going to town, screwin' harder than he ever has in his life, screaming at the top of his lungs, "Take it all baby, yeah, TAKE IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I'm not putting up with this anymore! i saw this abuse in 1983 while working inside Lion Country Safari, Irvine Calif. Elmers Gentle Jungle was not so gentle. All babies need love and trust if they are ever to be trusted with human beings. The trainer is only reinforcing mistrust. Lets put the bullhook in the Trainers Butt!

As for the "tough hide" excuse they use, it's the same old crap excuse used for the abuse of rodeo animals. These animals have skin that's actually *much* more sensitive than humans. Oh, and they HURT the elephants to get them to perform. They know the ears are most sensitive, which is why he was digging the hook there.

If they ever tell you "elephants hardly feel it because they have thick skin" they're lying. In some places like around the ears and mouth the skin is paper-thin and very sensitive... that's why they use the bullhooks there.

I don't think it's Texas' fault. I'm Texan and am ultra liberal, which is pretty much what you'll find in Austin. I can't speak for the small towns, but Austin is pretty accepting. We actually have a bunch of activist to help prevent abuse and other things.

There is no time at anytime that they would be standing for 12 hours in a row even for sleeping they are washed regurlary, clean hay every few hours or when needed, long walkd & swims when possible. Also on train runs the trani stops every 4 hours for water breaks for all animals. you should not comment about things that you don't know 1110% about whaqt your talking about. It takes away from your perceive integrity.
ooh forgot to tell you water stops on train ever 4 hours. washing & swimming when possible occur regularly. standing on cardboard is better on your back & knees than concrete. but whenever possible grass is there for them. when you make conjecture about subjects that your not 110% sure of you show you lack integrity.
cirque du Soleil is not a true circus.#1 Most of the performers are ex street performers from Montreal or other atehletes, with no circus tradtion or family members. #2 there is no such thing as a no animal circus. Circus' is sometimes literally built on the backs of horses. Phillip Astley. Than again knowing about the history of the shows & having been on the road for many years you would know this. Also look how poor singapore is & how little civil libertys their people enjoy.absolutely none.

I make sure that the elephants have a trainer avalible all the time and that the never got bored. The best way to help captive elephants is to work with the ppl who keep them and make sure they know what they are doing

They have a goal to get rid of "slave animals" leaving only wild ones. They take advantage of their members by taking their money never telling them they are funding this slaughter. This isnt abuse. First of all, I live there and I actually WATCHED the elephants. They gave them treats and said "good boy!" or "good girl!" To them when they were good, and re-directed them when they were doing it wrong. As I know, Austin is a diffrent city. I should know.

Everyone should go to Cirque Du Soleil is safe and no animals are being used to create a show. Ringling Bros will drown when WE take action and rescue those poor animals from abuse. Firstly, an elephant's skin is up to 2 inches thick... that's 20x thicker than human skin. Secondly, I bet 90% of the people who commented have no problem eating meat, riding horses, or sitting on leather seats. I can guarantee that those animals are treated far worse than these elephants. Lastly, if elephants only breed when they are happy, how come Ringling has the only sustainable herd of elephants in the western hemisphere?

@retownsend I have Lipizzan horses and no they dont get abused in any way physically or mentally. They are show horses who have the run of the pasture, have climate controlled barn and eat best food. My horses are like my dog. They are my pals for life..even after retiring from show.

And even if the elephant hadn't been killed or removed from the circus for attacking a human, it would NOT be performing in a show so quickly afterward that there was still visible blood on its inhumane wound.

If they feel they have to use these means to train and move elephants then thats telling you that the elephants are not ment for this torture. Circuses say yes the elephants get lots of exercise, but the last time I checked elephants travel around every day and swim in the cool water, wallow in the mud thats what they do. Not stand for hours with chains and hit with flippen hooks. They should be in a preserve with hundreds of acres/ miles. Save the elephants from this torture.

I went to the circus with my daughter and while i was standing in line i heard someone say "here they come" and when i looked it was Peta with signs and i couldn't stop staring at the signs to the point that the lined moved and my daughter said lets go. Then once i got inside I was absolutely disgusted at the fact that the animals are forced to perform. I thought i wanted my daughter to experience the circus but i will never EVER go again...in fact how do i sign up for PETA!!!!

The elephant is so in heat, and so ready for anything, she turns around and backs right up to him. It's crazy how much info and video are out there regarding elephants & abuse in the circus world, yet, like what most people have posted, nothing happens...I'm from N. CA, but live in WA... Soon, Arco Arena in Sacramento will be hosting the most popular circus! As for the "tough hide" excuse they use, it's the same old crap excuse used for the abuse of rodeo animals. These animals have skin that's actually *much* more sensitive than humans. i went to watch the show yesterday in denver and there was some people standing there giving papers to every person that passed by!i got one and didnt even read it i just shoved it in my pocket if i would of read that paper i swear i wouldnt of entered that stupid show!damb i really hate this people they should be treated the way they are treating the poor animals lets see how those heartless bastartds like it!!

Its sad to see an animal such as an elephant performing tricks for the amusement of others. These animals deserve better treatment.

circusboy90210, you are obviously a MORON--- Elephants are not PETS. We capture them or breed them and force them to submit to our will. The circus is NOT saving species that we would never otherwise see, you dumbass. We can preserve their wild habitats and watch them on the Discovery Channel, in their natural habitat. Circus animals are not real animals anymore since they've been made into clowns for human entertainment.

Elephnts in Ringlig are all captive breed. It's sad to see so many people trying to look smart about things that they have not the foggiest of what they are talking about.They are the individual pets of the people who own them. They are not corporate property's.

There is a better way. Contact the USDA and ask them to better enforce their regulations. Make the owners take proper care of their animals.

I don't think it's Texas' fault. I'm Texan and am ultra liberal, which is pretty much what you'll find in Austin. I can't speak for the small towns, but Austin is pretty accepting. We actually have a bunch of activist to help prevent abuse and other things.

There is no time at anytime that they would be standing for 12 hours in a row even for sleeping they are washed regurlary, clean hay every few hours or when needed, long walkd & swims when possible. Also on train runs the trani stops every 4 hours for water breaks for all animals. you should not comment about things that you don't know 1110% about whaqt your talking about. It takes away from your perceive integrity.

I think its time for us to STOP watching and supporting circuses with LIVE animals!
Look at Cirque de Soleil, they entertain people without the need of animals.

p.s. Singapore has since banned circuses with LIVE animals since 1995! I have stop watching it too.

cirque du Soleil is not a true circus.#1 Most of the performers are ex street performers from Montreal or other atehletes, with no circus tradtion or family members. #2 there is no such thing as a no animal circus. Circus' is sometimes literally built on the backs of horses. Phillip Astley. Than again knowing about the history of the shows & having been on the road for many years you would know this. Also look how poor singapore is & how little civil libertys their people enjoy.absolutely none.
