Something about this video creeps me out. Maybe it's the combination of a slow-talking, deadpan voice, describing a combat shotgun, with Japanese pop music faintly playing in the background. Yeah... That's probably what it is...
Have you ever tried painting it before? I sanded my whole 590 down and repainted it black, and the heatshield blue. It looks pretty sick but the paint is chipping off, and im mad now cause it looks like shit.
Anybody know what kind of paint to use so i won't chip off? Or am i doing something wrong?
Is the 20" barrel long enough to shoot clays with at a skeet club? Reason I ask is that I really want a tactical shotgun like this, but also would like to shoot clays.
does any one know if the old school 5 pound metal slides for mossbergs are still available? i ant find one please any one with helpfull info respond :)
get rid of that heatshield and replace it with a picantanny rail from the stock to the end of your heatshield. The piccantany rail is sold at cheaperthandirt and its called the warhammer. the item number is SHT-121. Then add a Leapers UTG tactical Aluminum forearm and get rid of that plastic stock one. the item number is SHT-150. Also a recoil stock would be nice. A mossberg recoil stock will greatly reduce your recoil. Item number 38885
I've went through 3 optics already how much was that one and were did you get it? the most I've spent on one is 100 bucks, Maybe thats the problem. I have a A.C.O.G that holds up but its not very fast acquisition
cool beans don't need that heat shield you dont touch the top i was practicing mag dumps never got hot enuf to burn me you shoot phone books and milk jugs filled with water? lots o fun or stays un loved
Question. I bought the rail for my Mossberg and the Allen screws it came with are much bigger than the pre-drilled/tapped holes on the reciever. Did you have the same problem or did you take it to a gunsmith or perhaps find smaller Allen screws?
Thanks
Also can you still use the bead sight with that rail/red dot?
I hav a Mossberg 535 and plan on modifying to make a tac shotgun except Im going with a 24 in. bbl. I assume all the stuff can be used on the 535? I put an extension on the mag. so it can hold 8 rounds of 3 1/2 mag shells and replacing the butt with a butt stock that has a pistol grip.
any one know if you can take the rear sight off of an A1 and replace it with a picatiny rail with a red dot sight and a backup rear sight on the rail as well? I know you can take it the original one off and get a rail as well as a red dot on it, but is there a sight that is made that could go on a rail and be practical?
not sure exactly what you mean, but on my A1 i removed the rear sight and mounted the evolution gun works rail and a burris fastfire, worked out fine.

Anyone tell me what "special purpose" means? As far as I can tell, a guns purpose is to destroy things. Does it only destroy special things? I presume its a nice way of saying "killing people shotgun" as opposed to "target shotgun" right?
I'll be honest I had the screw acting as a trigger housing pin backwards..lol..But I saw how yours is and I fixed it. I was at the range when it was on wrong and the saddle kept swinging down hitting my hand. We're all good to go now.
no, mounts by replacing a screw within the action behind the elevator. you may also ahve to remove the trigger assembly. but overall it's a relatively simple process and the saddle comes with instructions.
@trykp where did u get your side sattle from? i got a tacstar 6 shot saddle from amazon for a mossberg 500/590 and when i got it it wasent the right one, on the plate that came with the saddle there were 2 screw holes in the middle on the plate, on the reciever of my shotgun they were different!! was yours the same way?!

Yes and no. You won't be able to get a stock heatshield since it wont fit on as easily. However, there are some gunshops that do custom work and theyd be able to make one that fits specifically on the a1. good luck!
This one fits specifically for the mossberg i believe. But if you search, theres a good amount of companies that make this. The one i have is specifically by Streamlight, so they might make one for the 870 as well.

It's taken my shotgun to such a pleasurable level. I recommend you get the compstock. Midwest Hunters Outlet sells it for 85 bucks online.
no estoy seguro. tendrá que verificar con la leyes de armas en España y pregunte a su distribuidor de armas de fuego si se vende esto. buena suerte!. :)
The bad guys head would be removed before he has time to react to the "ANT TACTICAL" Light. and lastly, i think he would like to know what he is shooting at in the dark before he removes any of the bad guys appendages. haha, nice try tho.
I'm not going to lie.. I stopped watching the video at about 1:22 just because you're stupid. A tactical light.. really? If you're in a dark room, and shining your stupid litte light everywhere, that will most likely give the bad guy a target, probably around your face. You'd be better off holding a normal flashlight off to the side.. a mounted "tactical" light is ANTI TACTICAL
Actually, the purpose of a tactical light, is used to disorient the target. A bright light of any kind in a situation like that will momentarily stun a hostile, allowing you to acquire and engage that target. It gives you a slit second advantage.
Yes, i am going to have to agree with joetanrocks1, the best thing to do in an urban setting is to run around madly in the dark and shoot anything and everything. Having a light that gives you any kind of visual on the target is "stupid".
I've been getting confuzed with it's shell capacity, and i've been getting different answers, being that you own one, I'd like to ask you and finally get an accurate answer, is this civilian legal?
The 590a1 does not... they have an a1 with an adjustable stock. Also this a1 does not come with a heat shield... most a1's have ghost ring sights that wont allow the shield to fit. The pistol grip is nice, but if youre like me and like to put 150 rounds of double odd threw her in a day, your wrist will be broken. The nice thing about Mossberg though is that you can do almost anything to any model. You can buy and make your weapon... and it would still be cheaper then a Remi 870
And Im not going to lie... since of Mossberg reputation and cheap price, (the only thing cheap about Mossberg), they are going to be hard to find in stores. I lucked out and got the A1 at Gander Mt. Mossberg doesnt sell there guns online either. So your best bet is trying to order one threw a store... I recommend buying a gun from gun shows, gun stores, or right from a previous owner. Unless it is coming from the maker I wont trust the condition of the weapon... thats just me.
For those strapped for cash, sporting goods stores sell the blued 590's at occasional sale prices that, for significantly less dough, will score you functionally the same shotgun as this one was before this guy customized it. Same heatshield factory installed too. It's just a shiny finish instead of tactical non-reflective matte. Far as ammo, for a little more $, if you really want a bruised shoulder, federal shells hit way harder than winchester. Don't know why, but the difference is clear.
iIt isnt the same gun... the A1 are a better-built receiver and a heavy walled barrel. The a1 even looks a little more beefy. On the newer A1 they have a metal trigger guard while the standard 500 & 590 do not. With that said... my uncle has these models and I like it just as much! I had to go to the A1, because who doesnt want a bayonet fixing point?
i got the benelli nova pump with a 18.5 inch barrel and that tlr-1 could i get that mount rail for my gun to use my light also or do i have to get the extended choke first!!
Hrmm... interesting point. I checked out your gun video but I cannot be certain that the mounting setup i have will work on yours even if you got the extension magazine tube. Good news is that the tlr-1 fits perfectly on several different rail styles so you could probably find a rail tube specifically designed for your gun that should work. Good luck!!
I just picked up a 590 on wednesday. Tonight, I mounted a Mossberg 702 semi auto .22lr underneath the magazine tube with scope rings, as if it were a bayonet. Then I took it out to shoot it. The 702 made it so heavy, but it was a blast to shoot.
keep in mind this a chocked barrel it wont be effective with slugs if your looking for a slug gun go with a rifled barrel you can get a 100 yards if you know what your doing
Yes, actually you can probably take this up to 100yrds. I use winchester super x slugs and they work absolutely great. good ammunition and good price. Correction below: this gun has no choke. the similar Remington 870 has a choke, but is removable.
I strongly recommend the rem 870 over the mossberg, the slide is much more rugged and overall it just feels more sturdy. trust me, its worth the extra buck.
but I will say that it is a nice setup. DIdn't know you could mount the rail up there. Question: I know the "tactical" model has the heat sheild, but I have never had to grab the barrel after unloading 8 shells =). Overall, theres really nothing else that I would rather be holding when a mad max scenario breaks out lol

It's taken my shotgun to such a pleasurable level. I recommend you get the compstock. Midwest Hunters Outlet sells it for 85 bucks online.

The bad guys head would be removed before he has time to react to the "ANT TACTICAL" Light. and lastly, i think he would like to know what he is shooting at in the dark before he removes any of the bad guys appendages. haha, nice try tho.
skullcrusher7979 2 years ago
I'm not going to lie.. I stopped watching the video at about 1:22 just because you're stupid. A tactical light.. really? If you're in a dark room, and shining your stupid litte light everywhere, that will most likely give the bad guy a target, probably around your face. You'd be better off holding a normal flashlight off to the side.. a mounted "tactical" light is ANTI TACTICAL
Joetanrocks1 2 years ago
You should read what Clint Smith - Director of Thunder Ranch - has to say about that. He TAPES a flashlight to his shotgun!
jutaloopiedo 2 years ago
Actually, the purpose of a tactical light, is used to disorient the target. A bright light of any kind in a situation like that will momentarily stun a hostile, allowing you to acquire and engage that target. It gives you a slit second advantage.

split ?
kotygros 2 years ago
Yes, i am going to have to agree with joetanrocks1, the best thing to do in an urban setting is to run around madly in the dark and shoot anything and everything. Having a light that gives you any kind of visual on the target is "stupid".

ogpdub 2 years ago
yes... it is 8+1 in the chamber of the 2 3/4""you can add another in the tube... bring it to 10 after you cyrcle one in the chamber.
it is 7+1 of the 3 inch but then throw another in the tube and have 9

Does that particular Mossberg come in a pistol-grip? Also did you have to special-order that beast?
blk67fastback 2 years ago
The 590a1 does not... they have an a1 with an adjustable stock. Also this a1 does not come with a heat shield... most a1's have ghost ring sights that wont allow the shield to fit. The pistol grip is nice, but if youre like me and like to put 150 rounds of double odd threw her in a day, your wrist will be broken. The nice thing about Mossberg though is that you can do almost anything to any model. You can buy and make your weapon... and it would still be cheaper then a Remi 870
warftrat87 2 years ago
And Im not going to lie... since of Mossberg reputation and cheap price, (the only thing cheap about Mossberg), they are going to be hard to find in stores. I lucked out and got the A1 at Gander Mt. Mossberg doesnt sell there guns online either. So your best bet is trying to order one threw a store... I recommend buying a gun from gun shows, gun stores, or right from a previous owner. Unless it is coming from the maker I wont trust the condition of the weapon... thats just me.

you could geta mossberg at big 5 sporting goods

For those strapped for cash, sporting goods stores sell the blued 590's at occasional sale prices that, for significantly less dough, will score you functionally the same shotgun as this one was before this guy customized it. Same heatshield factory installed too. It's just a shiny finish instead of tactical non-reflective matte. Far as ammo, for a little more $, if you really want a bruised shoulder, federal shells hit way harder than winchester. Don't know why, but the difference is clear.
MaggotCorps187 2 years ago 2
iIt isnt the same gun... the A1 are a better-built receiver and a heavy walled barrel. The a1 even looks a little more beefy. On the newer A1 they have a metal trigger guard while the standard 500 & 590 do not. With that said... my uncle has these models and I like it just as much! I had to go to the A1, because who doesnt want a bayonet fixing point?
warftrat87 2 years ago
i got the benelli nova pump with a 18.5 inch barrel and that tlr-1 could i get that mount rail for my gun to use my light also or do i have to get the extended choke first!!
jtmoney606 2 years ago
Hrmm... interesting point. I checked out your gun video but I cannot be certain that the mounting setup i have will work on yours even if you got the extension magazine tube. Good news is that the tlr-1 fits perfectly on several different rail styles so you could probably find a rail tube specifically designed for your gun that should work. Good luck!!

ok man thanks alot

I just picked up a 590 on wednesday. Tonight, I mounted a Mossberg 702 semi auto .22lr underneath the magazine tube with scope rings, as if it were a bayonet. Then I took it out to shoot it. The 702 made it so heavy, but it was a blast to shoot.

How accurate u think slugs wud be outta a mossberg590? i want this gun, but wanna get 100 yards outta slugs, think thats possible?
Oh and i am thinking about a Knoxx Compstock
ikillandhunt 2 years ago
keep in mind this a chocked barrel it wont be effective with slugs if your looking for a slug gun go with a rifled barrel you can get a 100 yards if you know what your doing
MotherFucker45 2 years ago
Yes, actually you can probably take this up to 100yrds. I use winchester super x slugs and they work absolutely great. good ammunition and good price. Correction below: this gun has no choke. the similar Remington 870 has a choke, but is removable.

How much did that Streamlight set up cost you, and where did you buy it?
I'm tired of Para-cording my surefire to my magazine tube : )
damarei 2 years ago
Haha. Well I got this at a decent deal from my buddies at my local gun shop. Normally the light will run $80-$100, the mount I think was $0.

can you put a pistol grip on this gun?
ek9king123 2 years ago
Yeah, but a pistol grip on a shotgun is like putting a 4" diameter chainlink steering wheel on a car.
It might look cool to some people, but you don't get any benefit.
damarei 2 years ago 2
you can buy this gun in a pistol grip
SyKoPrevo 2 years ago
Yes, you could if you wanted to. I personally wouldn't recommend it, unless it's one with a buttstock as well.
trykp 2 years ago
Been looking at getting one of these for home protection. Your review was very helpful. Thanks for sharing.
mcfly682 2 years ago
I strongly recommend the rem 870 over the mossberg, the slide is much more rugged and overall it just feels more sturdy. trust me, its worth the extra buck.
lespaul227 2 years ago
but I will say that it is a nice setup. DIdn't know you could mount the rail up there. Question: I know the "tactical" model has the heat sheild, but I have never had to grab the barrel after unloading 8 shells =). Overall, theres really nothing else that I would rather be holding when a mad max scenario breaks out lol
ShutUpAndRide08 2 years ago
Just for looks :). Honestly, I don't even shoot to the extent that the barrel gets unbearable to touch :).
