its kinda bad if it sunk that way cause they wouldn't have enough time to release the life boats and it would have let 1,657 people die i was just guessing it woul be in the 1,600's
when she sank to the bottom I actually had thought u hit the bottom right away, cause it looked like her bow crumbled like that of her sister Britannic, but it was just ur models bow upper deck popping off
@MrWhatsrossable I've heard that two actually. Some witnesses reported that after breaking, the ship jackknifed or 'sagged' causing the bow to briefly surface. Seems plausible considering that the ship likely didn't break at such a radical angle as is often depicted in movies and pictures.
@subzero5297 no that theory was later proven to be faulty in 2009. the weight of the emerging water at the breakup wouldnt have been enough to compress the decks as much as they anticipated
@subzero5297 well i think it is because the angle hadnt been high enough yet to cause a structure failure. and by the time it was, the other funnels had allready submerged in the water, making the breakup point underwater, less than likely
@ZachGriff11 I know that. It's just fustrating seeing people say the Britannic hit a mine or was torpedoed. Cause we dont really know what caused the ships sinking. What's prevent divers from finding the truth is that the "Firemans Tunnel' is blocked. So until they can get passed there, the Britannics sinking is still a mystery.
@drewsky684 The forces at work on our model in this video are unlike anything the real Titanic would have encountered on the night she sank. This is nothing more than a modeling fail, which we posted because it's (hopefully) still interesting to watch. :)
This is how the Titanic's sister ship, Britanic, sank. Not to ship builders, the suffix tanic, brings nothing but death. Titanic hit an ice berg, britanic was struck my German mines during WWI
@hillbilly2341 This model is a halved vessel, secured by a rubber band at C-deck and flooding catastrophically amidships due to the artificial sagging action caused by the rubber band. This is not at all how Titanic actually sank.
@hillbilly2341 We've seen that one. We've watched most of the Titanic documentaries from the last decade live, actually. What we're saying is that this sinking may present an exaggerated view of one possible breakup condition, but under no circumstances is this "actually how it sank."
@hillbilly2341 Our previous comments seem a little harsh in retrospect. Thank you for watching, and for weighing in. Sorry if our responses were terse. :)
@Rapidnadion Someone mentioned above that the titanic Broke in half because of a Sagging effect. This is not accurate, as has been proven, as her bow section sank deeper, she began to "Hog" which is where the either end of the vessel moves and causes huge sheer force stresses on the hull, because of the Expansion joints she was built with, these sheer forces caused the steelwork here to shear, which caused her sinking. Great video Rapidnation, I have been looking for something like this for ages
@titanicrul A lot of folks have compared this video to the Thayer/Skidmore drawing - this particular sinking was quite a happy accident in that sense. :)
@Facebook3682 Thanks!! It's good that a man that makes good videos with titanic sinkings (with breakups this year) agrees with me ;-) before year 2010 i thought it sank like in the James Cameron Movie .....
@Masinfira1 That wasn't us on that last response, it was Facebook3682 ... just to be clear. :) And no one knows how Titanic sank. Personally, we do favor the low-angle breakup theory, but until there are more expeditions and more information is uncovered ... every breakup theory is just that ... a theory. It helps to remember that.
@Facebook3682 Click the link in the blue box at lower-right at 1:01 to see how this one was made - you can do it yourself, with enough patience and time!
I just watched a recent History Channel special that speculates that the Titanic actually did sink this way. I cross-section of the hull was found that showed evidence of being pulled apart, instead of being crushed together.
Actually Titanic did break up like that according to the evidence from Titanic's Final Moments Missing Pieces documentary film explanation, but, I don't know which one is correct, Robert Ballard or the other one
Nice. Didn't one of the survivors descrive Titanic sinking this way? With the bow breaking the surface before going back down again. Doubtful it happened but this video just reminded me of that.
@TimeLordParadox Yes - brought up by an earlier commenter. The survivor's name was Jack Thayer, and the artist who rendered the sketch was Skidmore. It's a fanciful drawing in which a lot of liberty was no doubt taken, but some people really cling to the idea that the bow somehow popped back up.
@aquelescaraaaaaaaaaa (Michael here) If you're asking for my personal opinion, I think Skidmore sketched the Titanic that way to convey it was broken, and nothing more. It was a quick sketch that took many liberties (not least of which is the fact that the ship looks nothing like the Titanic). I would be very surprised if the bow re-emerged from the water during Titanic's actual break-up, as I can envision no force which would act upon it to cause such a thing.
@Rapidnadion If the shallow angle theory of the breakup is true then this might get some credibility. It's possible that the stern could've pushed the rear of the bow lower then the front as it went down. But like you said in an earlier comment, I can't think of a scenario like this that could've caused the bow to pop back up out of the water.
@Rapidnadion Actually i'd call this an epic WIN, considering they just recently discovered on the actual wreck evidence that shows it breaking up EXACTLY like this way, 'Sagging' Its been said that it was probably the WRECKAGE of the Grand Staircase Thayer saw rise up after breaking loose from the dome. ^_^ bit of Titanic trivia, but yeah i'd say this breakup model is closer to what REALLY happened. search for "Titanic Final Moments Missing Pieces"
@FBfan477 Yes; this model's boat deck is removable, so we lost that once (wasn't secured with a safety line at the time) and had to recover it with a crab net. You can see our intact Titanic model hit the bottom in our "Model Titanic Sinks WITH ONBOARD CAMERAS" video. Pretty hard impact!
do you guys have the model attached to a string *besides the insulated wiring* or do you have to go down and get it each time, or do you use the wire to pull it up?
@afromanparker There's a safety line (50-lb.-test fishing line) attached to the bow, and one to the stern. That's what we use to bring the sections back to the surface.
@ReptigloRand Yes - the fo'c'sle deck is removable on our model (we kept it separate so we could still access the forepeak), and the buoyancy of the foremast and deck itself caused it to float right off in this video. We have a safety line attached to it, though, so it wasn't lost.
@FBfan477 This is actually the 1/350 Academy-Minicraft model, and the kit only cost us about $50 (eBay). As for the breakup zone, we designed it without copying the design from another model; check out our website in the video description for a whole bunch of build photos in the Titanic section.
@flametitan100 You're right about the Thayer/Skidmore drawing. Re: 0:48 - the Fo'c'sle deck is removable on our model, so we can access the forwardmost bow compartment. The buoyancy of the plastic deck and foremast caused it to lift right out of its mounts. We have a safety line attached to the deck, so it wasn't a problem; it happens often.
@Rapidnadion I really like your Hobby! and millions of people are watching this! but i wonder if the victims would be happy about that O.o but i think this got nothin to do with the death of thousands of peoples
@Amorstopineed Yeah; we try to confine these videos to forensic recreations of the sinking, from different viewpoints. No disrespect is intended, certainly.
@Rapidnadion its so funny, i got the same model. maybe its a bit smaller. but i also want to scupper it, but;
i got no lake or something else in my near. so i tried to scupper it in a basin, but it was too small. another problem was, that the 2 halfs of the model are not closed. the gap was to long, and it scuppered to fast, and that really dont look well. Now, i paint the hull again, with the red coulor. i only need a bigger waterbody!
@Amorstopineed Yes; deep water is unfortunately a prerequisite for sinking videos like these. You might try filling an abandoned dumpster with water! That'd work, though it might be ... gross. Maybe it's not a great idea after all. :-/
