10Km is the minimum depth for automatic depth calculation it does NOT mean that the depths are always at 10km.

@ASolarMoon not true... I just went onto the USGS site and saw quakes listed with depths or 7 and 5 km... Thus, the 10k is NOT the minimum depth...

@ASolarMoon seems a bit fishy that these well televised quakes are all the same depth.... The Chile quake slowed the Earth's rotation by 1.26 microseconds... lil too coincidental for me to dismiss... But thanks again for the heads up...

check into astrotometry if you really are serious about understanding the quakes, NOT all of the 10km depth quakes are 10, that is just a fixed rate that UGSG uses if there isn't sufficient data for the quakes depth. They used to use 33km.
