Met Napy (Murphy Brock) in O.B. ca at a gig he was doing with Project Object..W /Ike W and don Preston.. Napoleon was totally chill, we chatted for about ten minutes in the rain..It was a bit surreal..He's very cool head.
Also best album ever (One Size fits all)I actually saw Zappa at the Armadillo HQ's in Austin Texas mid 70s. Someone called a bomb- threat (absolute truth) and mid-song Zappa snapped his fingers and the music stopped dead right in the middle of a sax solo.We all thought Zappa was joking but he finely convinced all of us to leave the building. After around 1 1/2 hrs the police left and we all filed back in.Zappa snapped his fingers and they started on the same saxaphone note that they left off at.
I agree 100%, you just CANNOT cut out a guitar solo from the greatest rock guitarist EVER!! When I was growing up, my Dad would not allow any talking what-so-ever during 1 of Frank's solos, if U did, U would get flicked on the head, HARD!!
I was lucky enough to be in a band that supported this Zappa lineup at the Lpool Stadium(in my opinion his best ever lineup)
He counted the band in on one of the tunes (Inca roads) i think and the band totally f***ed it up. He stopped the band and remonstrated with them (in a pisstake way of course) and counted them back in. It was perfect. I'll never forget that moment as it showed me they were human after all!!
THE best rock band ever. Superhuman musicianship, great individuality/humour/sarcasm/avante garde etc. George Duke, Chester Thompson, Ralph Humphreys. THE best rock album ever 'Overnite Sensation'. Jesus where has all the innovation from the post eras of rock gone. Everything is just business business business these days. Record companies suck as Frank well knew. Zappa you are my hero.
Anybody have the Helsinki Inca roads / i mean does franks greatest piece of guitar work exist on film , must see before i die , i like this solo but the Helsinki one is in another universe altogether !!!!
Is the Helsinki to which you refer from Spring 1979? I have Hannover 3/26/79 but I lost my best Inca Roads from '79, and I never knew the exact date or place. The sent went Easy Meat, Jumbo, Andy, Inca, Florentine. Sound like Helsinki?

The set was: Easy Meat, Jumbo, Andy, Inca, Florentine, and the Inca was simply the greatest rock-n-roll guitar solo of all human time. Does that sound like Helsinki?
to those wondering, this version was recorded before they had the solo. The album version spliced this recording with a later recorded solo, plus some overdubs they did later in the studio.
"You cant do that on stage anymore vol 2" is the complete helsinki concert with said george duke cosmic fast 7/8 solo. On Ruth,on ruth haha thats ruth!
Anyone ever heard the Helsinki oncert where Zappa used that live (edited) solo for the studio version of this great tune? Probably my favorite performance.
I agree with the below comments. Overnite Sensation remains contexually relevant and its musical palette can be heard time and time again and still send shivers down my spine.
I would do really bad things in order to get hold of a copy of the performance of this song in its entirety without any of the animation and accompanying sound effects.
And to get hold of a copy of the entire show? Don't even ask what I'd do.
Someone, somewhere, has this. Please, do the right thing.
The other posts of this song have "clay & noise interference" over the entire end portion of this amazing perfromance. Thanks a zillion for this "fully Ruthed" version.
anyone heard the the lost episodes version? so much better!
