  • ...yeah...!!

  • Pretty close to the original! Nice job!

  • The only time I have heard this piece it was played by Mead Lux Lewis.

could Mr Lewis play this piece better that Jimmy Yancey?

this is really a cool version.

    THANKS:)

  • I have two copies of the sheet music here. Both with Bob Crosby photo.(originals--not photocopies) The song was composed in 1938. It was written by by Andy Razaf and Mead (Lux) Lewis.(Both black) Published by Shapiro Bernstein. NY Both in very good condition. $5 each, postage $1.85.

write me, shimmy_moon@yahoo.coI sell vintage sheet music on eBay, belle-of-bargains

  • thanks for sharing your info :)

  • nice

  • Exceedingly well done! Did you find this all out by ear or is there sheet music?

  • I did this one by ear..:)

  • Well, you've earned my deep respect, then. I am not afraid of learning Charlie Parker themes by ear, but Yancey's uniquely moaning piano sound eludes me.

  • When I was a youngster I had the sheet music to the Yancey Special always open on the piano and I played it many times. You play it exactly the way I wanted to but never could. Thanks very much for the video.

  • Thank you for posting. Are you familiar with the young German pianist Daniel Paterok? He lives near Münster and has a very good feeling for boogie woogie. A few videos of his are on YouTube.

  • thanks, no never heard of him before..I'll have a look ! thanks..

  • brava bravissima!!!! very good!

  • grazie :D

  • So great ! Jimmy Yancey deserves to be better known !

  • Nice Job. Jimmy Yancey was a grounds keeper for the Chicago White Sox for 25 years, a favorite at "rent parties", and an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

  • Jimmy used to play at the Beehive on 55th street inthe thirties and forties.

  • great , smooth as usual. thanks freaky

  • Beautiful!

  • Yes I am a self-taught blues and boogie piano player and I play in "C" and "G" mostly.

  • As usual, superb"

  • That's great! What key is that in?

  • It's in C. I play most boogie woogie songs in C,F,G, and sometimes in Bes. Do you play the piano yourself? Bye Eeco

  • yeah, what he said....

  • Man, I wish I could find a piano player as good as you around here(US)!!

  • :D thanx..I was wondering if there are places in the US where you can play in a bar or something?

  • oh yeah there are places, a lot of places

  • Smooth and effortless! Turn around riff had a lot in common with Honky Tonk Train Blues? I seem to remember on the Original, he (Jimmy Yancey) fluffs the very last phrase ?

  • Hi thanx for the comment! :) what do u mean with fluffs??

  • I mean a mistake (fluffs must be an English expression). Ive just listened to Yancey Special - and I was mistaken. I think its a Professor Longhair version which contains a mistake at the end.

I like hearing mistakes on these very old recordings. Makes it seem more human!

  • That's a smooth boogie....such a pleasure to listen to.

  • Thanks again!,nice to hear you like it ttl
