  • Classic ad! miss the old days.

  • This is all I use, and I love the classic ad!!!(gtxmotors.,com)

  • I love this music. I remember the horn so clearly as a child. This ad must be late 70s or early 80s.

  • haunting memories.victorian sundays, broken dreams of twilight future through an open window and darkened cloud

  • @nevilito1973 I hope you finally switched from Quaker State to Castrol.... The New Castrol Synthetic Oil can be used to clear all haunting memories for good!! -TX

  • How do i get this enhanced version of this Mahler's 7th segment without the voiceover ad?

  • i love castrol why its better for the engine n after i used it in my 1.5gli proton wira engine it seems ok going up hill but i used shell as petrol n castrol as a engine oil is it risky for the engine

  • It's not enhanced-it's exactly as Mahler wrote it and it's the 2nd movement-very spooky piece, love it! Bernstein did a good recording.

  • The version in this ad is so much better than what i've heard in any classical recording. Commercial ads and film-makers usually get the best recording or just simply re-record it better themselves.

I would be really impressed if you could direct me to a place on the internet where i could hear the this segment in its orchestral context and with the same musical clarity as the one here.

  • mr.antagonise-as heard here, this one is fuzzy, the one i mentioned will be crystal clear in comparison.

  • Yes, i heard it (Bernstein); it is good, but i can barely hear the beginning at full volume on my laptop. It gets louder after a few secs. the ad maintains the a high volume throughout and i prefer the sound of this piece in the ad version.

Tilson-Thomas version is good too. They're all different and good in their own way.

  • @antag0nismo go and see it live it will change yr life u dont hear a synphonic orchesta through a lap top.

  • The only brand of oil I choose for my car

  • If only the oils i fry in were as safe.

  • There was a Castrol advert prior to this that used a different signature tune. Any ideas what it was?

  • Beautiful music.. haunting.

  • I know! Is it an original piece, written for the ad? Hard to believe that good taste was once present in TV advertising!

  • It's actually from Mahler's 7th symphony but enhanced.

  • Thanks for clarifying this for me, Mark! You're right - Mahler's 7th, which I have, in fact heard, but couldn't put the music here and the recordings of the symphony together in my head! Cheers.

  • I will never know how they got the drip to do that

  • In the pre-computer graphics age I suppose they just freeze-framed while they rotated the engine piece. You can even see the stop framing in the commercial.

  • Alright then - a trivia test - who was the horn player on this advert?

  • Excellent advert. Yeah the music used to freak me out a bit also. I always remember being on the verge of sleep when I was a kid and this would come on the telly and scare the shit out of me. Great memories.

  • I love this advert!! So many happy memories. Does anyone remember the one with the oil following the 'gap' between the red and green part of the logo, down the side of the can?

  • Hey matty. I'm glad u said that lol. Coz this music used to freak me out too. I'd be scared of ads because i didnt want to hear this music.

  • I shot my load before the ad was even finished!

  • I wonder how many other blokes have bashed the bishop over this? - I thought youtube didn't show porn!

Right just off for another sherman tank!

  • For some reason when I was a kid the music in this add used to freak me out!

  • yeah man - same here - it used to shit me up a bit - especially if i was up late - i couldn't get the tune out of my head and the thought of the oil going into the spanner fkin weird!

  • Yeah - I had the thing. The music is from Mahler's second symphony...

  • ...sorry, seventh symphony...

  • Remember this advert so well. Like the bit at the end with the spanner.

  • Danger - a Frank Bough gag!

How old is this post, exactly??? Hahaha!

  • Nice music backed by John Barry of Bond film fame no less, superb and many thanks.

  • Nice baby. Any chance of an ESSO one from the late 70's?

  • well bugger me i guess i am going to have to go for sloppy seconds...
