I stayed there last year. I kinda get what everyone says about it being scary and i would never stay there alone, i did like it though. I went with uni and all our rooms were ok, some where better than other but you get what you pay for
Yikes ..bottom line is when the place is that dark it means they don't want you to see the dirt or find the bedbugs. NY hotels are so risky right now, even the 4 & 5 stars have issues with bugs etc. Overall it's worth it to pay a little extra for peace of mind..try the Hilton near Times Square next time, very clean :)

I highly recommend if you ever go back to New York that you stay at the Sheraton Hotel on Canal St. It's like right in the middle of SoHo, Chinatown, Little Italy and just a train ride away from Times Square. This hotel is really beautiful inside and out with NO dreary place in sight. Great views no matter what floor your on, really breathtaking. I think you'd really love it for your next stay. Dunkin Donuts is across the street, metro at the corner. Ps.The shops are amazing! Hope this helps =)

The #1 rule of traveling: find a hotel chain you like and STICK TO IT. This was my strategy when I traveled for my job. I tried to stay at a Marriott anything when I traveled - a bit more expensive, but worth it. My work reimbursed a certain amount, and I just paid the rest out of pocket - worth every penny for peace of mind. I had a Hotel Penn type of experience once or twice and decided NOPE, done with that.
it probably was a bedbug that bit you! My cousin stayed at that hotel and she said that her room had bedbugs so she requested a different room, and her new room had bedbugs too!! She said it was the most awful experience of her life.

When my mum went to NYC this year, I told her to not book this hotel - so she didn't, but the travel agency cancelled her original booking while she was already abroad and booked her in hotel Penn instead. When she got there, she was close to a nervous breakdown but got through the weekend (key: staying inside as little as possible) and she even got her money back afterwards...
Did you know you can put a review on Trip Advisor about them. It will let everyone know the truth about that Hotel. They KNOW people take that website seriously. It might change things :D

Like OMG me and my family stayed there when we were on holiday 10 years ago, I was only little and even I remember how awful it was. First we had to move rooms because our first room was literally flooded, wet carpets, wet beds and it stank. So we had to change rooms which took forever.. Anyway my two sisters shared a room, down the hall from our second room, and they came over in panic because one of my sisters was just about to use the shower when the ceiling fell in. Luckily she wasn't hurt
Don't sweat the dislikes. I used to work at a hotel like that. It was haunted and needed to be updated. You paid way too much for a tiny room that wasn't what was expected. Only thing was, I worked night shift and it's the worst ever working in a crap haunted hotel like that.
OMG! I stayed there when I went to NY like 2 years ago, I swear to god there was a ghost in our room (we had a 3 room suite) I was in the washroom and mu cousin was on the bed watching tv... then all of a sudden the washroom door opens... I was like "WTF.." so I ask to see if it was her...she said it wasn't cause I didn't really hear any movement during the process of the door opening.... and yea the place does look kinda creepy....ALSO we were in the elevator and one of the doors didn't open
( cause there's usually 2 doors, one outside and one for the elevator) so we had to go a floor down then go to another elevator.....that scared the crap out of me....XP I got bit millions of times too! I opted to sleeping ontop of the sheets instead of under them XP
Girlll!! omfggg when i went there we looked and lookedd for weeks to find a gooddd hotel that isnt sketchy, small, scary and etc. Next time your there, definitely check out the best western president hotel it was amazingg!!! Perfect room size, and sooo comfortable to be in, its like being at home. PLUS FREE INTERNETT! :D
You should do more vids of places to "WATCH OUT FOR". Why pay money for a place where you feel uncomfortable and unsafe? Traveling to unfamiliar places is dangerous, especially if you (alone) end up being in the wrong place and the wrong time? I'm glad that you're home safe and I'll keep your experience in mind when traveling. About the ghosts, I can empathize with you on that! Those who don't believe in the paranormal world probably won't!
If I were there, I would of complaining to their manager and demand a better room, or my money back and go to another hotel. Also, report that Hotel to their Corporate office and bring their sanitation issues to there attention. Seriously, No one should ever have to endure a place that is a wolf in sheep's clothing like that.
Thanks for this informative video. Actually I Passed this on to the people I think do most of the traveling in The US. The over 50 crowd at AARP. This should make some people think twice about staying in That Hotel.

@pursebuzz yes, like 3 doors looked like they were connecting to the room next to ours. and all of them were locked. expect one door which opened up into like a mini room (low ceiling and one light) it looks like a storage. and that little room had 3 doors. we got to scared after that so we just went back to the lobby. ugh i stayed at a motel in Atlanta...it was horrible! The rooms smelled like cigarettes, the beds had bed stains, and bugs. I pulled like 2 allnighters cuz i did not want to sleep on that bed!

HUGE Hole in the ceiling as i walked to my room RUST consumed the bathroom! need a tetnus shot 2 shower eeewwhh also the lock on door was just hangin! we seriously did not need a key, it just pushed open.
I can understand giving the hotel a bad review on something like tripadvisor or a booking website but posting a video is very dramatic. I've had much worse experiences than this. I can't imagine how you'd react staying at a motel 6. People don't stay at this "100" year old hotel because the rooms are all fancy, they stay there because of its location.

If I am paying $150 for a room a night and see the photos of what to expect .. then it should be what they show me. If I pay for internet in that room I expect it. know what I mean?

OMG! I stayed there when I went to NY like 2 years ago, I swear to god there was a ghost in our room (we had a 3 room suite) I was in the washroom and mu cousin was on the bed watching tv... then all of a sudden the washroom door opens... I was like "WTF.." so I ask to see if it was her...she said it wasn't cause I didn't really hear any movement during the process of the door opening.... and yea the place does look kinda creepy....ALSO we were in the elevator and one of the doors didn't open

( cause there's usually 2 doors, one outside and one for the elevator) so we had to go a floor down then go to another elevator.....that scared the crap out of me....XP I got bit millions of times too! I opted to sleeping ontop of the sheets instead of under them XP

Girlll!! omfggg when i went there we looked and lookedd for weeks to find a gooddd hotel that isnt sketchy, small, scary and etc. Next time your there, definitely check out the best western president hotel it was amazingg!!! Perfect room size, and sooo comfortable to be in, its like being at home. PLUS FREE INTERNETT! :D

You should do more vids of places to "WATCH OUT FOR". Why pay money for a place where you feel uncomfortable and unsafe? Traveling to unfamiliar places is dangerous, especially if you (alone) end up being in the wrong place and the wrong time? I'm glad that you're home safe and I'll keep your experience in mind when traveling. About the ghosts, I can empathize with you on that! Those who don't believe in the paranormal world probably won't!

If I were there, I would of complaining to their manager and demand a better room, or my money back and go to another hotel. Also, report that Hotel to their Corporate office and bring their sanitation issues to there attention. Seriously, No one should ever have to endure a place that is a wolf in sheep's clothing like that.

Next time you should stay at the Roosevelt Hotel. Its super close to Grand Central Station and midtown, but its really nice.

Thanks for this informative video. Actually I Passed this on to the people I think do most of the traveling in The US. The over 50 crowd at AARP. This should make some people think twice about staying in That Hotel.

@pursebuzz yes, like 3 doors looked like they were connecting to the room next to ours. and all of them were locked. expect one door which opened up into like a mini room (low ceiling and one light) it looks like a storage. and that little room had 3 doors. we got to scared after that so we just went back to the lobby. (which by the way loooked sooooo nice, such a scam)

Was just in NYC last week we come out of Penn Station and my friend goes that hotel is horrible, she was referring to that hotel!!! Holy crap. Gross! We stayed at the algonguin super nice.

ELESSA! I just googled that hotel and the rooms there were used to film the movie 1408! I don't know if you've seen that movie but it is very scary and I can't imagine staying in that hotel! Especially after seeing that movie!!

was actually pretty nice
except we were on the 10th floor
and it took about an hour for the elevator!
and when you were inside it it kept making noises and it was nasty
and the stairs were scarey cuz if you screamed NO ONE could ever hear you.

ugh i stayed at a motel in Atlanta...it was horrible! The rooms smelled like cigarettes, the beds had bed stains, and bugs. I pulled like 2 allnighters cuz i did not want to sleep on that bed!

HOTEL PENN IS SUPER Sh*tty!!! I agree 100 PERCENT.. SO glad you did a review I too stayed after checking out the photo gallery..I should have been checking out the reviews..We only stayed overnight, But NEVER AGAIN.Beautiful foyer once you are off the elevator it's like a freakin time warp.. HUGE Hole in the ceiling as i walked to my room RUST consumed the bathroom! need a tetnus shot 2 shower eeewwhh also the lock on door was just hangin! we seriously did not need a key, it just pushed open.

I can understand giving the hotel a bad review on something like tripadvisor or a booking website but posting a video is very dramatic. I've had much worse experiences than this. I can't imagine how you'd react staying at a motel 6. People don't stay at this "100" year old hotel because the rooms are all fancy, they stay there because of its location.

wow thats totally a lie about how the hotel broke open the door because a guest wouldnt leave!! because obviously if it was a hotel worker who opened it they wouldve had a key card to get in not having to bust open a door lock!! CREEPY!!!

@idig thats different and comparing apples to oranges. This place shows photos of their hotel room and doesn't actually give you that room. If I am paying $150 for a room a night and see the photos of what to expect .. then it should be what they show me. If I pay for internet in that room I expect it. know what I mean?
