One of the best journalists I've ever witnessed. I always thoroughly enjoyed he and Peter Jennings covering the conventions and their general election night coverage. May you always rest in peace Mr. Brinkley.
It would be great if more celebrities and important figures would do these very simple straightforward interviews for posterity..................How else would future generations know about Virginia Mansel?
To find out the complete story of Company I..the WWII unit that he was in, read "Brinkley's Beat" a book compiled by Mr. Brinkley and his family and published after he died in 2003. It is VERY enlightening, with regard to his opinions, his early years and his life in general. He was a man the likes of which we may never see again.
I went to a book signing in Houston for David Brinkley's autobiography. To my surprise as I stood in line with hundreds of other people he started talking to me, answering a question which I cannot recall but he was struggling for the correct answer. He impressed me as simply a very nice man.
Well, I COULD agree more, and I will presently... he was INDEED a gentleman genius and a wit, as well. What this gentleman genius would have made of the current oblique attempts at political wit I can only barf at. DIGNITY and DAVID certainly have one thing in common.
My God¡ I love this man, but the sound is so low.
Can you, TVLEGENDS, improve the sound?
God Bless America¡

I'm a Gen-Xer, David Brinkley was the man who taught me about DC and politics on his Sunday AM chat show.
Wow, do I miss him.

Compare these interviews with those of Robert MacNeil, who IS amazing, I think; there are more of those, but they are really impressive and worth it.
