K. For more advanced players that can analyze each technique they are quite different and very good. James is a very percussive player and has mastered the art of impeccable palm muting. Trust me James is very talented. Kirk well may not have some of the technical skills as Marty but is very skilled composer. His ability to as guitars call Phrasing is really special. It really made him stand out during their hey day. As for Dave, Dave for President. Dave is just rad. And Marty---prodigy.

They are both great guitarists, Kirk makes wonderfull solos so does Marty. MArty's solos are alot faster and developed, but kirks (i fell) have meanings to them. They're both great but someone made the point of Kirk being stuck in the same band for a long time, which can drain creativity.

Ima huge kirk hammett fan and i dnt really pay that much attention to marty friedman but i must admit that marty is more skilled and better at playin guitar than kirk. i prefer kirk tho, his solos sound badass
kirk's guitar playin is mainly fast speed pickin and wah wah. Marty' s is much more soulful and melodic putting less effort on the fast repetitive stuff that kirk almost always does.

They way solos fits with the vocals and the rythm part, they way it make a song or even an album completly out of this world with the passion and the synergy with all other musicians. Hammett won this part. I read Mustaine autobio... an I can tell you back in the days of Megadeth that passion weren't here at all... even Dave is agree.

I like them both, though I like marty a bit more. The Fade to Black solo remains my favorite solo of all time, but Im not too happy with Kirks whole repertoir. I do however like every solo Ive ever heard Marty play. all his solos are unique sounding. Kirk also has his very great solos off his earlier albums. And still has with how awesome the Unforgiven 3 solo is, he just needs to lay off the wah and he'll be great again.
I am always amaze with the way people keep comparing Lars with Portnoy, Lombardo and others and Kirk with Dave, Friedman, Broderick and so one. There really isn't any comparison. Marty Friedman is a virtuoso and Kirk Hammett plays guitar. Kirk has a few really nice moments in all of Metallica's albums. Marty makes every album he's on better. Try this... could Marty play any/every Hammett solo? Yes, easily. Could Hammett play every/any Friedman solo (including his work with Cacophony)? No, never.
Marty is so much better than Kirk...even though I love Kirk and I am the biggest Metallica fan of all time...Marty is a better player...fortunately, Kirk is amazing as well, and he's written probly my top 5 favorite solos ever

@CraSSiou Then you clearly know nothing of Marty Friedman at all. Marty's creativity is on an entirely different level to Kirk's. Kirk has been the lead guitarist in a band for 28 years and in that time Marty Friedman has done so much more musically. Check out his solo albums like Scenes, Loudspeaker and Dragon's Kiss before you make blind statements with no validity. Hawaii, Cacophony, Megadeth and his solo career are very different creatively, technically and musically

Ima huge kirk hammett fan and i dnt really pay that much attention to marty friedman but i must admit that marty is more skilled and better at playin guitar than kirk. i prefer kirk tho, his solos sound badass

kirk's guitar playin is mainly fast speed pickin and wah wah. Marty' s is much more soulful and melodic putting less effort on the fast repetitive stuff that kirk almost always does.

@TheCerealkillas I agree Marty has a lo more creativity than Hammett but your forgot one thing about what's make a guitarist full of prestige : the tone. They way solos fits with the vocals and the rythm part, they way it make a song or even an album completly out of this world with the passion and the synergy with all other musicians. Hammett won this part. I read Mustaine autobio... an I can tell you back in the days of Megadeth that passion weren't here at all... even Dave is agree.

I like them both, though I like marty a bit more. The Fade to Black solo remains my favorite solo of all time, but Im not too happy with Kirks whole repertoir. I do however like every solo Ive ever heard Marty play. all his solos are unique sounding. Kirk also has his very great solos off his earlier albums. And still has with how awesome the Unforgiven 3 solo is, he just needs to lay off the wah and he'll be great again.

I am always amaze with the way people keep comparing Lars with Portnoy, Lombardo and others and Kirk with Dave, Friedman, Broderick and so one. this is like comparing a doorbell to a symphony, which marty played with by the way, kirk and dave have had similar solos but even dave mustaine admits marty is better than dave mustaine. I mean he has been trying to replace him for 20 years, and even though he has a completely over qualified shredder now he still can't write solos like marty did.

There really isn't any comparison. Marty Friedman is a virtuoso and Kirk Hammett plays guitar. Kirk has a few really nice moments in all of Metallica's albums. Marty makes every album he's on better. Try this... could Marty play any/every Hammett solo? Yes, easily. Could Hammett play every/any Friedman solo (including his work with Cacophony)? No, never.
