The Dark Knight is a very good film. Very well acted, solid dialogue, decent cinemotography, great visual effects. The whole part where he is capturing Lau could have probably been removed as it didn't add much to the film. The cinemotogaphy and editing was definately better then Batman Begins though it wasn't anything spectacular. Good movie though can't wait to see how the Dark Knight Rises is.
The Dark Knight tops everything. That's not an opinion. It's a fact. It just had soo much influence on later movies, when everything got to be more serious and darker in tone and atmosphere.
Come on Luke, he saved the Batman franchise after it went down the toilet no thanks to Schumacher's gay-parades disguised as Batman movies and you and i with everyone knows Schumacher's movies were complete turkies this side of a MST3K kind of movie. Nolan rebooted the series and made a unique vision of Batman like Burton or the animated series did.
Yes. But, you people really like to elevate this film over anything from true masters like James Cameron. It's disgusting. You can't rank The Dark Knight, a movie where a rich man dresses up like a bat to scare his enemies over movies like T2. Yet, you do it. You have fits of fury, because James Cameron keeps punching out true classics and Nolan can barely scrape by with good scripts and bad action sequences.
I mean, people said this thing was better than The Godfather.
@LukeLovesRose Love James Cameron much? Avatar is overrated, as is Titanic and T2 is probably the best movie he's made. Nolan is working from an origin story that is already there, so blame the comics and graphic novels if you feel the story is weak. Bad action sequences? Look at Marvel's movies if you want to see bad action scenes, because The Dark Knight didn't have any. Batman will always be there to make, and probably will 10 years down the line.
Judging by the incredible success and popularity of Cameron's work, iconic images like the Terminator, Sigourney Weaver facing off against the Alien Queen, great lines that are still quoted today (I'll be back, Hasta la vista, baby), are you going to try and prove to me that I'm wrong for loving Cameron's work as much as I do?
@LukeLovesRose Your partially basing that negative opinion of TDK on the concept alone, yet you're not focusing on what Nolan actually did with the concept: modernizing an iconic hero while remaing true to his origins, and doing this with the aid of a tightly constructed script and a top notch cast. With that said, T2 is an awesome blockbuster as well (though it's story doesnt match TDK).
What strikes me about your post is that you seem genuinely upset about TDK's popularity. Why is that?
I don't know. It bothers me that people hate on a film like Avatar simply due to its popularity\y. And trust me, they are. A few complainers have slipped up and admitted as much to me. So, why would they worry so much about BO success if the box office success is "no measure of quality" as people say (Transformers).
@LukeLovesRose i actually somewhat agree with you. although i wouldnt rank avatar up there with camerons best, sicne the story is half rip off, and im sorry, but the acting was awful, but it was still a good movie, not great. TDK sure has some memorable scenes, and nolan deserves some credit man, but its way overhyped.
I'm not saying that Avatar is Cameron's best film. IMO, it is the equivalent of 2001 for Cameron, where the characters and story kind of take a seat in the back for Cameron's art to shine more than ever. So, Avatar is the only film, from 2000 to 2010 that really made a profound impression on me. And I saw a lot of movies in that decade.
@LukeLovesRose Very true with the 2001 and avatar comparison, although 2001 had a pretty complex plot, but then again, nobody touches kubrick. Cameron and kubrick are very simliar, they take their time and make masterpeices. I feel like people just hate on cameron cuz hes mainstream, but who said mainstream cant have great movies too. LOTR for example.
@LukeLovesRose , K T2 is only slightly better than TKD. Slightly. James Cameron is not god and Nolan is the most underrated director in Hollywood, bar none. I don't see Nolan doing another Pocahontas story.
@LukeLovesRose I don't think its the greatest film but the past decade when has a movie really stuck with you like the dark knight viewing it for the first time
i still relate to the animated series from the nineties when i think of batman. this is a good movie but you have to admit, heath ledger dying helped it.
@mtlson disagree completely, the final act is the heart of the film and i think Nolan did a wonderful job depicting Gotham nearing the edge, the complex morality of the people on the ferries, as well as Batman's selfless act to help the city march forward. Just a great job.
Joker was really the best thing about the flick. The movie was so so I guess, and the fight scenes (i.e. Batman himself) were just gay. Get some better choreography for the next one, please - for the love of God.
@Shoknifeman you should e-mail Nolan and ask him to strip down the complex story telling and give you the cotten candy fluff that most-all other superheo movies indulge in.
@DAZing23 Batman Begins was a fantastic movie that "Got into Batman's head", whereas the Dork Knight was a booooooooooooooring violence-fest; you don't have to agree but, i have the right to my opinion.
@Shoknifeman yes, and I have a right to say your opinion is wrong. Dark Knight was very much Batman's story and very much pays tribute to the great Batman stories ever told like The Long Halloween and The Killing Joke, while also capturing the essence of the Batman character & those stories and what made them such great reads. To simplify what the Dark Knight did to "boring violence-fest" completely misses the point of the film, and that's my opinion on your opinion: you simply missed the point.
I'm sorry about this but everyone complaining about Bale's voice have missed the point of the voice.
I admit in Begins to be taken aback when he first spoke as The Batman. But it works within the "reality" of the movie. He's a man torn away from himself. Wayne is crazy to do what he does regardless of the nobility of his actions.
Batman is a different superhero, he's not really even a superhero because he has no superpowers, he's a vigilante. He's more of a detective than anything. Only complaint is the Batman himself in this film is just bad compared to Michael Keaton. Sorry Christian Bale, you make Batman sound like he has lung cancer.
I didn't even know there was such a thing as a Chicago accent, I know of a New York accent there's a lot of people in my family that have Boston accents but I've never seen a Chicago one.
I sincerely hope Nolan returns for a third outing, because then he can give us a fully formed Batman, complete with his arsenal, his behavior, and his cave.
I think in 30 years people will still talk about Ledger's performance as The Joker like they talk about Marlon Brando as Don Vito Corleone today. Also I think it's absolute bullshit that this movie along with Gran Torino etc. got snubbed. Im glad there will be 10 nominations for Best Picture this year but I certainly wish it was like that since the beginning.
I'm with you. "Dark Night" was everything cimema should be. It was Shakespearian, it had loss, it had triumph, it had Legder, who "wants to watch the world burn." It is epic, it is masterful. In 20 years people will be watching Dark Knighht. Can we be so sure of "No Country for Old Men"?
It isn't the best film. There are others that are way better. Not modern films - most modern movies are just so silly. Classics. They were the dawn of films, so of course they're going to be the best. Now, don't put thumbs down for the following: IMO, I find superhero films to be annyoing. I hate some of these moviegoers who watch some horrible, violent thing, watching countless slaughterings of innocent people and call it 'cool'. Woah. You'll be saying it's real cool when you get blown-up.
Although everyone has a right to their own opinion, you seem to have completely missed the point of The Dark Knight. Have you actually seen the movie?
also, for a movie where there is killings, and death, has anyone notice there is NO BLOOD in this movie? it doesn't even need to make it gory or show any type of blood. its amazing when you really think about it
