Hi Yasmina, its me Nada from Barcelona, spain. I was just watching your videos and was remembering how great are your clases and your teaching. Your shows are incredable profesional. I hope I was still in Toronto to be able to take lessons with you again. Maybe this coming year when i go visit my country. I really miss Canada.
keep up the good work. Dancers are sooooo lucky to have you as a teacher and an inspiration for their dancing.
I dance myself and I must agree that she does have amazing talent and skill, but I found I didn't care for some of her variations of these traditional dances. At times it seemed a bit more Burlesque than Arabesque :P. But there were moments that I felt displayed her amazing skill well. And her body is perfect for oriental dance...not everyone can be a stick people.
... please don't drag the "Lebanese" into the criticism. It is the view of one (may two) close-minded person. Yasmina has done so much to elevate the dance and bring two sides of the world together; so that everyone can learn/share. The dance is a celebration of life whether you are Eastern or Western. Just keep going... you're doing a fab job!!! ;-)
Dont get me wrong she is great. I think the mentality plays a big role.
With the westren culture it's dance with the beat, with east generally speaking it's dance through the beat. You should come and visit Egypt to sense it :)
For everyone who says Belly Dance is for a certain look/people... I say it was meant for people. Not just women, not just women who look any certain way, not just women from a certain place. The dance is all about the music and your heart. Well we all have hearts don't we. And I don't think when a musician is making music they are thinking, "Man, I hope no skinny white chicks in North America start dancing to this." It's art. Art belongs to everyone who feels it.
Lindabellydance -you have the BEST comment here by far. SO many racist comments. We are all brothers and sisters if you go back far enough, so i don't know why certain cultures claim to have an exclusivity to certain forms of the dance. Sure one has to respect its roots - but there are dances similar to this all round the world (polynesian for starters) which have nothing to do with it. Its a fertility and celebration of life dance - something everyone can enjoy.
@Lindabellydance i agree. Nobody showed me a book that said all the dancers had to be "sticks" liike Lara Flynn Boyle and Calista Flockhart. There's a good number of me out there, I believe that want's a dancer who looks like she has had a actual meal once in a while.
@Lindabellydance i agree. Nobody showed me a book that said all the dancers had to be "sticks" liike Lara Flynn Boyle and Calista Flockhart. There's a good number of men out there, I believe that want's a dancer who looks like she has had a actual meal once in a while.
Yasmina is incredibly talented. Not only that, she is the founder/artistic director of a successful and amazing company. Bellydance is a celebration of femininity, not an opportunity to bash women based on superficial criteria. If her race and body bother you, perhaps you might prefer seeing the ultra-thin, surgery-enhanced, commercial dancers of, for example,Beirut nightclubs whose main purpose to earn profit through 'visual pleasure', particularly from the male population, rather than skill.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
White women always try to convince themselves that belly dance was meant for fat.. I mean "curvy".. women. lol They claim that it's not really an Arab dance, either.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
wow...well i've seen many 'healthy' white women belly dance.. its a trend with them :/ u should see 'Eastern tribal belly dancing' its SCARYYYYYYYY, it should b GOTHIC blak majic dancing..
Yasmina has done wonders for the art of Belly Dance. She has spent many years living and learning to dance in Egypt. She has taught all over the world. Yasmina dancers are great. So what if a women has a little extra weight on her. You can go and idolise your Lebanese celebrity platsic surgury freaks.....that is what they are FAKE! You want non Arabs to respect Arabic culture yet you dis any non Arab who goes out to learn about it? The arab mentality "it's OURS don't touch it"!
Umm not really... many belly dancers should have some flab, it makes the dance look way better as you can actually see the movement. And how can you say she is outta shape, for a dance like that i am sure she eats very well, not everyone has to be thin to do belly dancing.
Yasmina spent years in Egypt. What a daft comment about hair colour, as if it has anything to do with anything. Please people, prejudice has no place here, or anywhere really! BTW, there are many great Lebanese Blonde Belly Dancers!
New to YouTube... Disappointed to admit, not surprised there is so much, anger, negativity and space wasting comments. I appreciate your positive words.
wow she is soooo wonderful, she has such grace and it's all about the dance!!! pay attention to the way she moves everthing, not only the waist but also the hands, fingers, legs
The drum solo is by our lead drummer, Suleiman Warwar and the 2nd piece is called "Nibtidi Menein El Hikaya", arranged by Bassam Bishara. We have this music for sale at Arabesque in Toronto!! Please see: arabesquedance dot ca or call us at: 416-920-5593.
Thank you also for your kindness to answer!! The 2nd piece was my most adorable greek song (or so i thought), an old song. It was a surprise to find out that it was an arabic melody. Bassam Bishara plays it magnificently! I'll enter your site and search for more. Thank you again!
There is an Egyptian film of same name w/dance scenes to this music that you might want to check it out since you're using the Arabic version in order to fill it out with some Egyptian flavor.
Great dancing, beautiful costumes, undulating stomach muscles, and no shoes! This is what Oriental dance is all about. I would love to see more of her performances. It would be even better if she can draw her audience into the dance so that each lady there can be inspired by her work.
Unlike other so called belly dancers she actually dances with her belly - notice the muscular rippling and the shimmies to the beat? A real woman's belly, with some weight on it, is much better for this dance form than the western anorexic type who have not belly to dance with!
Ms. Ramzy, your choreography is amazing! Thanks to you, my first solo performance which is performed to one of your choreographies has garnered me lots of compliments on my dancing. Thank you!
Wonderful to see you on here Yasmina!! I've been lucky enough to see you in Chicago and last year in Grand Rapids. I hope to see you perform again sometime soon. :)
