  • His little smile when he says "Stars" for the first time... the only time he smiles in the whole thing.... such a beautiful... everything!

  • Amazing.

  • 1:44 he looks exactly like Michael ball.....

  • The music is well within his range. His voice is powerful, and his acting is that of a man possessed, which of course, is Javert's worst human failing. He is so convinced of his own righteousness that he misses the immensity of the greater goodness which he professes. In my opinion, Quast is the best Javert, for this song alone.

  • The only part about the way Quast sings that I dislike is the way that his d's always sound like t's...other than that, he's freaking awesome.

  • QUAST IS OVERRATED.

    Yeah I said it.

  • @mreaglesfan1995 Gtfo. Lol jk I respect your opinion. I just disagree. He's my favorite Javert.

  • Welp...Im super impressed. Loved his rendition.

  • Bravo, The Best talent for this role. LOVED IT....

  • These concerts are for lazy people. See the play if you want culture.

  • @LeahWayEarth I heard there was a novel...

  • @IncredibleGoliath. Obviously, there's a novel. My comment was in regards to people showing up for a shortcut to the music.

  • @LeahWayEarth You mean, for a shortcut to the story. But it's irrelevant, because the play is also a shortcut relative to the novel. The musical is more abridged than the play which is more abridged than the novel.

  • @IncredibleGoliath. The book is a whole different medium. Theatre, even if mainstream schlock, is theatre. It has people acting and a lot of complicated elements going on in front and backstage. You can't compare any book to any play or film or any other adaptation. What I'm comparing is the play against only using the songs, which were MADE for the play. This concert is like having the book with only a few chapters in it where action happens. It is relevant.

  • @LeahWayEarth

You come across as a pretentious idiot. Please stop trying to tell everyone that your enjoyment of the music is more valid than anyone else's. You are being the kind of fan who makes loving something no fun for anyone else. We can all love Les Miserables. There's room for everybody.

  • @LeahWayEarth IMHO comparing a play to a musical is just as stupid as comparing play to a novel, and that music is as much a different medium to staged drama as drama is to a novel.

  • @IncredibleGoliath. What are you talking about? This IS a musical. That other guy uhsfeth is comparing a play to a book, not me. This music is taken from a musical, but it's JUST the songs and not the musical. I'm comparing a musical to a musical which has been butchered and abridged simply for the music. It's like if they took west side story and did nothing but the songs. All the emotion and backing of the story is gone because it's just the songs.

  • @LeahWayEarth

Or, they are for people who want to celebrate that Les Miserables had been running for ten years. Just a thought.

  • Damn..look at those sideburns

  • nice song, and I really like Javert's character.

However, I feel the lyrics really fall flat. There's some nice imagery in the words, but there are too many awkward lines, lines that simply aren't musical

  • His "Those" is soooo perfect!

  • @TheCoolTune which?

  • @darkland20 Well, all of them. But the one whee it's like, "Those who falter and THOSE who fall"

  • I want to pay the price of those who fall. I want to pay the price all night long with Philip Quast.

  • The best Javert ever :D! This song gives me goose bumps.

  • All hail Mr Philip Quast as Javert. He is the best there has been and the best there ever will be when it comes to this part. The expression on his face at the end says he owns the song and the part and guess what, he does.

  • I thoroughly have to agree with you. Sadly that is the way of things for those who are duty bound to the law. Which brings me to another thing which I love about Les Miserables, is that there really isn't any bad guy or girl for that matter. It's just the way life is that's the real evil doer.

  • Human is the deadliest predator on earth.

  • Though Javert is seen as the Bad guy, this is MY FAVORITE song of Les Miserables

  • @Beowulf1ca Mssr Thenardier is more despicable, but he tends to get off easy because he's funny. I like this song pretty well too.

  • @Beowulf1ca Javert isn't a bad guy. He is just someone who is doing his job. We need guys like him. Unfortunately, the events are unfortunate.

  • His "stars" at 1:07 are awesome, full of emotion, well as whole song, fantastic!

  • I LOVE LES MISERABLES!

  • Next time when I look up at the stars, I will know that there is at least one person singing this song by the stars.

  • 3:26! I love that 'Go to Hell' look he gives the audience

  • @caviekim the look on his face is like "yeah, you know I nailed this song down, I rock".

  • It's like magic. Victor Hugos character has come completely to life in the amazing Philip Quast!

  • Brilliant - Amazing. Everything about this is 100%. Acting / singing / focus. Its power most of all.

  • I think he is absolutely AMAZING but his vibrato is really annoying :/

  • This performance is what initially prompted me to buy the 10th anniversary recording. What a ridiculous cast.

  • @NalarZ It's an amazing cast, thank you very much.

  • @NearSupporter11226 I think he meant ridiculously awesome.

  • @KhaosTy Oh... now I feel stupid. I hope he did.

  • I still haven't read the book.. T.T

  • @Gj24fll I'm reading it right now. It's tough to start, due to the fact that it's 1,463 pages. But it's really really good.

  • Philip Quast....<3

  • I <3 Javet

  • oh.my.god he has the most beautiful voice ever!

  • 3 people fell as Lucifer fell.

  • I love the way he says "stars" at 1:05 with the quiver in his voice...*sigh*

  • That hat is really really awesome, just like his singing

  • I always feel good when I listen to this, it makes me feel brilliant when I am sad.

  • He is so amazing. It confuses my uterus, sexy voice on a chubby old man :3

  • @HirilCelebrian Ah, very true. But his eyes are quite blue, wouldn't you say? :P

  • 100000000000000000 times better than the 25th anniversary concert. There can only be one Javert. " It's either Philip Quast or no Javert!". " Its either valjean or javert.......who will win the epicness of hat award.......hmmmmm. Who will win he cool hair award.....hmmmm. Who will win the awesome outfit and weapon award...hmmmm. Who will win the overall epic battle award...hmmmmmm. I wonder

  • @BagOfSticksFork I agree 100%....The 25th anniv actor was not into it like this. It is a story being told/sung and Quast is the master of it! Just look at his focus in voice and eyes...amazing!

  • @chaksheba Philip Quast is awesome. He IS Javert

  • I don't think the audience applauded enough.

  • LOVE THIS SONG:)

  • Nobody could play a better Javert!

  • definitely my favorite Javert. I'm preparing the role in my school (in transposition, since I'm actually a tenor) and I need look no further for the perfect example than Philip Quast.

  • @nw4smthgcmpltlydiff you lucky little %*%*6(^(*6

  • My second favourite Les Mis song behind Bring Him home sung by the great Colm Wilkinson.

  • This is just perfect.

  • everytime it is reconfirmed. he is the best

  • My favorite Javert!

  • Is it okay that, as a straight guy, I think that Les Mis is unceasingly badass?

  • @marxofacistmoderate1 Of course it's okay! :D Why not? Les Miserables is amazing!

  • Les Mis is what every other musical wish they could be...Wicked,Phantom, Lion King, Miss Saigon are all fantastic but not like this one Hail to the King ...Les Mis

  • I love this song. So much. Hence my username.

  • my VERY fave Les Miserables song. :D gives me chills!

  • My God what a voice !!!!

  • Looks like 2 ppl fell as Lucifer fell

  • Loved this version for fifteen years... It is still the best

  • Leedscap, lol. I have

  • I will meet Team Starkid one day. This I swear by the stars.

  • 3:26 - "yeah, that's right bitch, nailed it"

  • Forgot to say Mr Quast here well and truly owns this song.

  • All I can say is I hope Russell Crowe does a good job. I have listened to this amazing performance for the 100th time today and it surprises me that Valjean clicked the dislike button twice.

  • Thumbs up if you actually read the novel by Victor Hugo

  • @gkj13 On page 620 so far. Having difficulty buying vols 3, 4 and 5 though!

  • @gkj13 I'm going to start reading it. I needed something to do for the next four years...

  • @gkj13 It was hard to read, it took me 3 weeks.

    I regret nothing.

  • @gkj13 Four times :) I never have enough.

  • @gkj13 I totally didn't and I know I totally should.

  • @gkj13 yeah I have, it took bloody ages but it was worth it. It's a fantastic story.

  • I love this song SO much!

  • EPIC FOREVER!

  • The definitive Javert,in my opinion. And Les Mis' is the definitive musical drama.

  • i heard this for the first time today

and for the 20th time just now :)

  • FAVORITED FAVORITED FAVORITED!!

  • I have to say I completely agree that Norm Lewis is far better I LOVED Norm Lewis and he is soooooo amazing

  • i cant get over his voice, so amazing

    hes so good-looking too :)

  • Norm Lewis far better..

  • @darkland20 No, but he's different! I loved Norm Lewis in the 25th.. but Quast has an amazing presence as well. More troubled than determined, like Lewis. I love both performances :)

  • 0:55 begins a very impressive crescendo.

  • Every.single.fudging.time. I amazed at the long note at the end! EPIC win Phillip Quast and his mutton chops of justice! *high five*

  • xD I LOVE his face at 3:26. It says it all: "Yeah. That's right. I owned that fucking song. You better applaud."

  • @OverlyCaucasianMale too fucking right he owns the song. He is ace. Check out a film called the Devil's double Mr quast here has a cameo as Saddam Hussein. I had to double take to make sure it was him.

  • @leedscab123 Yeah I found that out back when I first heard of the film... I went to the IMDb page to look at the cast, and I nearly fell out of my chair... Javert as Saddam Hussein... it was like when i found out Sherlock was going to play Smaug... my head exploded.

  • Comment removed

  • ummm...kay i'll say it how is Nick Jonas associated with this? rofl

  • Philip Quast is singing the song so beautifully...

  • 118,329? Why is it only showing my views?

  • he should have been casted in the 25th also or done the encore at the end <3

  • I believe every word.

  • Cooper = copper. Silly me. Lol

  • He looks like a proper cooper on the best - and one that's got the right fkin ass with someone. Lol

  • The two dislikes have to be both from Jean Valjean

  • I just have to listen to this song at least 4 times a week or I would go insane otherwise. It is just brilliant this song and the man Mr Quast as well. Checkout a film called the devils double where Mr Quast plays Saddam Hussein.

  • His hat + his voice + his SIDEBURNS = Javert

  • best javert there ever was!!

  • imagine a show with Phillip Quast and Alfie Bowie

  • Amazing performance.

  • Philip Quast as Javert.

    Philip Quast as Valjean.

    Philip Quast as Marius.

    Philip Quast as Gavroche.

Philip Quast as Fantine, Cosette and Eponine.

One Day More sang by an entire army of Philip Quast.

Either I turned into an elf or my ears are having a boner.

  • @xmentosx hahahahahahahhaa your mental! LOL LOVE IT!

  • Just the way he sings the opening note gets you hooked.

  • thumbs up if you are watching this for the 18th time today.

  • @XxLinkofHyrulexX more like 30th. time today, haha :D

  • I met Philip Quast :) HE is so amazing..... ahhh<3

  • @supersaiyanhannah I too had the pleasure of speaking to Philip briefly outside the stage door of the Albert Hall. 'Ultraviolet' had just finished airing and I asked him if there would be a 2nd season. He turned back and replied "I hope so!" Unfortunately a 2nd series was never commissioned.

  • I agree @MrDan1906, Philip Quast created Javert!!

  • 1.) Best Javert ever.

2.) In the book, Javert was an atheist, as well as was Victor Hugo himself.

3.) Quast HAS to sing Edelweiss.

4.) Javert and Jean Valjean belong together.

5.) Just sayin'. (Ref. to #4.)

    6. ...

7.) Just making sure I have seven things to say because I like the number seven.

    Valjean/Javert FTW. >.<

  • @IDontShine423 I myself would love for Quast to play the Phantom of the Opera.

  • @MrSean24601 Hm... I think that Crawford would have to worry about his position as my favourite Eric, then. ;D

  • @IDontShine423 Can we like start a petition for this or something? haha

  • 1 of 2 very talented australians to sing in the tenth anniversary, after all, they chose only the world best performers to repeat their roles here. Simply beautiful and moving.

  • Liek dis ifu cry evrytime

  • Just watched a film called the Devils Double and low and behold Mr Quast here played Saddam Hussein.

  • just a totally awesome performance. i love this play. there isnt a better one around and this cast is the best...

  • @austinthekingofkings This cast IS the best. fucking amazing, excuse my language.

  • Simply THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What an amazing performance. If I were a woman no doubt it would make me wet.

  • @Beansahol you are exactly right :)

  • How brilliant? This brilliant.

  • @TWallen222 its not very brilliant at all!!!

  • I prefer the 25th anniversary version.

  • This is the true Javert! The 25thanniversary concert was pitiful to say the least, a mockery of this incredible performance!!

  • This I swear by the..... STAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARS!

  • He is the the best. Always has been, always will be.

  • well done Mr. Quast. :)

  • He IS Javert. No one else comes close, not even the 25th anniv cast

  • saw this mans last UK performance of this song at the 1000 voices concert. God almighty I was lucky

  • @AlWybrew I was the guy in the front row clapping loudly. Did you hear me? I was lucky enough to speak to him at the stage door. (see earlier comment.)

  • @stevejailbirdmatt Oh wow! That's amazing!

  • I agree, his hat's pretty amazing XD

  • i looked online for a hat identical to his but had to settle on a "what would javert do?" t shirt, which is still pretty awesome!

  • @cbrme97 Awesome, I'd want one. :)

And you really like that hat, don't you? I remember some of your other comments.

  • *dies from overexposure to pure BEASTLYNESS*

  • im sorry but after him, i can never truly take any other javert seriously.

  • If God is indeed real, do you think he would hold it against me if I worship Philip Quast?

  • Beautiful :')

  • Ridiculous amounts of love for his voice. Best Javert I've ever seen.

  • 太感動了!!

  • What an absolute baller.

  • 2 people fell as Lucifer fell.

  • <3 Im not even in my teens and I love Les Miserables. In fact my mom used to sing Castle on a Cloud to me every night before I went to bed. <3

  • gold!

  • And that's how the Aussies do it ;)

  • Comment removed

  • @audioajunkie really? i was there last night and it was not him....

  • O to see PQ perform Javert live!!!!!

  • Is it weird that I'm a 16 year old girl, and I think I'm in love with Javert..........

  • All hail Philip Quast. He is simply sublime as Javert, no one else even comes close to his brilliance.

  • I have seen just about everyone that has played this part, and for me Philip Quast it the perfect Javert! I love the depth of his voice. I've always loved this play, but these are my favorite actors for all the parts that are shown in this concert! Even in a simple concert, Philip stays in character all the way back to his seat, amazing!

  • We Aussies make great Javerts! Being stern (and often unkind) police officers is an on-going tradition in Australia! (Thus why Russle Crowe will make a great casting choice as the this WONDERFUL AND BADASS character!!!)

  • @2010Wilde Aussie men are exceptional, all the great masculine sexy men, Quast, Jackman, Crowe and Hemsworth have shown an ideal masculinity!

  • I keep hearing ppl say how great he was at this role but Norm Lewis does it me

  • I want to stick my hands in his hair... and mess it up.

Then run away, giggling the entire time.
