  • Nitric acid is much superior to ferric chloride :-) Good video.

  • Wow !

  • Whats the best "free" circuit drawing software out there? =D

  • @memadmax69 EAGLE

  • HAHAHAHA you two are class!!!

  • I want this video on my GB250 phone.

  • I think they are using a solid sheet of copper. How does the ink keep the whole sheet from being conductive?

  • OIC! They are not using a solid piece of copper. Its a nonconductive board with a thin sheet of copper on it. And the nonessential areas get 'etched' away.

  • I dont understand. You etched circuits on a copper sheet. Regardless of the circuits, wouldnt the whole sheet be conductive... since its copper? Arent boards usually non conductive with copper circuits on them. Rather than the whole board being copper? Im missing the insulation part I guess.

  • @Just1Spark What they are doing is essentially fabricating a custom conductive trace network on a copper surface, eliminating the need for jumpers and excessive soldering. In this case, you'd already have the connections to your discrete components, before populating the components. Of course the entire suface is not one big short, as there "spaces" betweet the trace

  • I tried to do this all day and it didn't work.

  • where did you get the copper from?

  • his hair.... XD

  • Kipkay is better than you !!!!!!👉💪😝

  • all this work is there people online that you could pay to make your circuit board if you send them the design you make on that program?

  • This old kind of makemagazine was better.

  • Great video guys! We do things a little differently at our place but you've definitely got the homemade version down pat.

  • i loved bre :l hes the reason i got into this stuff in the first place!!

  • bre is so awesome

  • cool

  • laser diode which you have used in this project

  • PCB, also known as a poly-chlorinated Brominade or however you spell it

  • @kitzenmovies and @clydeaglide, It isn't a plate of solid copper, it's a core of insulating fiberglass or paper phenloic core with a sheet of conductive copper plated on one or both sides. The ferric chloride "eats away" this sheet of copper where you don't want the traces to be, leaving traces of conductive copper insulated by the nonconductive core.

  • i dont know why im watching this im never going to make one

  • Nice tutorial. Can I use an HP Officejet printer or is it the toner that is required to create the c/b?

  • How about a motherboard for a change?

  • hey guys can u help me to make a own computer with my company name

i am 18 year old and i doing bachelor of computer application

  • nice the song is survivalism by nine inch nails

  • Not trying to be a troll but I wanna know how it works

  • Ok so how does the cholride work with the coppers...what I can understand is that it "eats" away the exposed part of the copper. Wouldn't the copper be still making a connection with itself in the center of the sheet? Thus not being able to guide current as a circuit board?

  • @kitzenmovies THIS IS WHAT I AM WONDERING ALSO

  • Great Vid

    Can't Wait To See More

  • does this work with an inkjet printer?

  • @heban44

no it must to be laser printer

  • very interested.

  • collin's tut is better.

  • collin's howto is better

  • number four, you make high frequency RF circuits with a ground plate...

  • PCBArtist is way easier for beginners compared to EagleCAD FYI.

  • Jesus, fellas, I know there is a big effort ongoing to dumb down the masses but they seem to be doing a pretty good job of it without your help. Anybody smart enough to want to make their own PCB hopefully has enough attention span to take your information straight and doesn't need to be addressed like they were a five year old child. Come to think of it this would be insulting to a five year old.

  • @OculiUbique

    ....OYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • What paper to use now as staples does not carry that number now????

    Thanks

  • I miss Bre Pettis

  • @myguitardidyermom12 what the fuck are you talking about we fucking want Kipkay!!!

  • @TheChickenrun3 lolno. I'd rather jump off a cliff behind a herd of ravenous buffalo

  • @myguitardidyermom12 screw you

  • you guys should quit whinning about kipkay, yah hes beast as hell but hes got his own channel and collin has his own show on make

  • All americans have glasses?

  • what do you do with the etchent after it's used?

  • Do not use acetone as mentioned in the video above; use alcohol; just plain ethanol /ethyl alcohol. Acetone leaves some annoying 'film' on top of the PCB. Using alcohol avoids this problem. Also, after soldering, you will definitely want to rinse the PCB in alcohol to clean off the flux.

  • so, you making holes with a dremel workstation... and there are a lot of people saying it sux for that... I bought one, gonna try in the future lol

  • you know that if you use a printer designed to print on a cd you can just print directly onto a pcb without much modification

  • colin's tutorial is the best

  • jazz heads lol

  • Is there a reason you two have to be so obnoxious and annoying? Why do many people think this type of jerkish, immature behaviour is amusing or entertaining? I appreciate the effort to inform and teach others, but stop the idiotic behaviour. I know, that makes me sound like a serious stick in the mud. No. Just can't stand the "I"m a jerk - ain't I cool" infantile, clownish behaviour.

  • Thanks for the video guys. I just did my first attempt and it came out great. A few small problems but I think I didn't rough up the board enough or hold the iron on long enough/hard enough. I did use a homemade solution of hydrogen peroxide and muriatic acid. Took only about 5 minutes to clean off the copper. Worked great and much easier than I expected.

  • were can you buy the board...what should I search??

  • I wish eaglecad didn't have issues with my archlinux install (it wants libpng1.2 and I have libpng1.4) and there's no source to change it.

  • roughly how long do you leave the copper stuff in the etchant?

  • i was wondering how thick is the copper board?

  • if you do the light transfer of your PCB layout try using a film positive. The printing of your desktop printer may not be clear enough or sharp enough to get the quality result your looking for. Accent Publishing in San Antonio specializes in running film positives or also known as transparency printing. 210-654-9555

  • nice thanks. U have an effects pedal that I may have to remake the PCB for my tip to you is if your efrects pedal PCB is bent DO NOT try to bend it back O.O it dosen't work......

  • nice tips

  • so with this you can make your own lightpatern for a scalemodel?

  • These were back in 2007 people!

  • Awesome..

  • Give us KIPKAY Back on makemagazine!!!

  • Can someone tell me how or where to put the power at on a pcb? I know everything except where to put the wires coming off my 9v battery

  • Don't worry bre, I like you.

  • do you have a video on how to solder the components to the board?

  • does this work with inkjets?

  • @oliverjamescarr It would, if you could ever ged acid-resistant ink which melts by heating.

  • @jpelczar It will work on a solid ink inkjet.

  • Then it's itching time.

  • Wich material r you using? you just call'd it "This.." ? :)

Would be really nice to know!! :D btw nice work guys.. (i know im posting on a 4 yo vid but.. yeah)

  • o hey my name is xander

  • wow it really help me understand how PCB's are made..thanks men!!

  • okay i have some questions how exactly do you define the board and how do you draw it out?

  • ye kipkay Owns

  • Photo paper sucks whatever the brand. Pros use Sticker Backing Paper now because its much cheaper, transfer quickly with less heating time, no need to soak in water or putting on fridge. After ironing remove paper and presto

  • colin's tut is better.

  • Nice

  • Can I have the schematic and pcb layout of this LED circuit please? I want to make one too. :) thank you!

  • What is that board? solid copper or a copper clad board?

  • I know what I'm doing this weekend! Sorry ladies, daddy's gotta make some nerd toys!

  • to that user that wants kipkay to say lol

    LOL

  • @themeancat123 in agreement or disagreement? Cuz Kipkay IS way better!

  • WE want more people to thumbs down people who are only here for kipkay.

  • I hope all of these KipKay fanfuckers unsubscibe. They don't need to be here

  • @ shindig109. You can use any bit you just need the keyless chuck attachment for dremel

  • can i use whiskey instead?

  • nerds lol no yall ant

  • where did you get that drill bit set? I can't seem to find one compatible with my dremel and yours looks fancy

  • IO am getting a free laser tiomorrow!

  • Guys great Job

  • awesome guys! u helped me alot :)

  • What is the best paper to use now that staples basic has changed?

  • awesome!

  • Gay Nerds.... what is the world coming to?!

  • hey photo basic gloss no longer works it has a plastic layer that melts onto your iron now! thumbs up so people will know

  • how to make "double layer board"?

    what kind of PCB?

  • Comment removed

  • just get some prototyping pcb, or just dont use a board at all!

  • 2:45 Ow.... I thought it was ICE-TEA...

  • very nice

  • The few the Proud the Smart/lovers? (No Hint Needed)

  • lol ! lol! :D

  • @animesh099

    To leave Make Magazine forever!

  • i totally agree

  • @animesh099 why don't you guys realize that these videos are from before kipkay was on make?

  • @animesh099 this is a community channel! if you want ONLY kipkay then watch HIS channel!

  • @animesh099 Sod off.

  • where do u get that copper sheet to make the circut board???

  • @swatregret RadioShack carries it. So does Mouser, Jameco.

  • the only place i have access to a laser-jet printer is at work, if i printed it out there then drove home (1 Hr) then ironed it on would it still work?

  • @Dark3ndWarrior Yes, but print out several copies in case you mess up.

  • @Dark3ndWarrior good question. I too would like to know this.

  • im confused? if its just one big sheet of copper how can you make a circuit?

  • @meadowsirl It's a fiberglass or epoxyglass board with a layer of copper on one (or both) sides.

  • 3:34 hahahaha nerd!!

  • could you do this with an inkjet printer

  • @thepunisher81000 Only if it's a Solid Ink printer.

  • this is pretty sick

  • Hi. I've just one question : what is the name of the tool he uses 3:23 to keep the PCB in place ?

    Thanks

  • Great video! I have one question as to how long I can wait between printing and applying to copper. I don’t have a laser printer and want to print it at work and then bring it home before apply heat. Just wondering if I have time.

  • @JohnnyNCindy yes it will be fine. the toner is essentially powdered plastic- which lasts forever and can be melted down at will.

Don't bend the photopaper and don't touch the toner with oily fingers. Your best bet is to lay a clean piece of paper over the toner side and sandwhich it in a book until you get home.

Also folks- do not use 'Brother' laser printers even if the price is right. They use a weird toner composition which DOES NOT WORK. I returned mine to get a Samsung- all good

  • What!? Did you say egocad?

  • @legalize000 he said "Eagle CAD"

Actually, its "CadSoft EAGLE".. but whatever :)

It has both a Schematic and Board view which you can switch between for your project. The Board editor will drop in all the physical parts that you placed in the schematic. You can position them how you like, and then use the AutoRoute feature to actually lay out the copper traces that make all the connections you defined on the schematic. Some people don't like the AutoRoute but it usually works great.

  • @bahstrike thanks man got an answer to pcb design...

  • I got into a police chase and lasted about 400 metres and crashed into a barrier.

  • hey im new to making PCBs... i usually use breadboards.. lol can I USE INKJET PRINTER IN MAKING THIS???

  • @mr74584584747 No, this process relies on the toner adhering to the copper on your board. Inkjet ink will not work.

  • @dratssix Solid ink inkjet will.

  • thats sweet wish i could work with you guys

  • Tell you how to NOT GET LAID! YES! NERDGASM!

  • Love it

  • Also, I put the board in a zip lock bag with the etchant, and then in another zp lock bag for safety. I then submerge the ziplock bag in a larger plastic container of hot water. I then use a rubber roller squegee I got from the local craft store and roll continuously accross the board. The hot water speeds up the etch process and the roller keeps fresh etchant in contact with the copper. This etches the board in 5-10 mins tops!

  • I use the Pulsar Prox paper, it falls off in the water without rubbing and I can get <8mil traces easy (or no trace breaks if that means more.) I tried finding the right paper to do it this way and spend a bunch of money on trial and error and error and error....lol.

  • haha, if you guys only knew how valuable this information is

  • Very cool, guys!

  • oh wow. that was cool. ill remember that or just remember to look for this video when i want to do that ^.^

  • these guys look like such herb fags ugly as hell

  • pause at 2:09

  • @wilfeatscheese i cant see it its just a burnt iron

  • @gtacrusher123 lol its a glitch with youtube; lately the time linked comments are lagging by a few secconds :/ he used to go RAWRRRR

  • HA...its matt and trey (creators of SP)

  • Is photo basic gloss photopaper?

  • @Tarlep Yes

  • nice =)

  • Oh I love this...Geeks rock!!!!

  • trying to be funny misses the point of being educative

  • Nice video ... straight forward and certainly not boring while getting the point across. J

  • try that in the middle of the night with limited supplies

I believe MacGyver can do that!

  • geez no matter how cool these guys try to be , they are just not.

  • You can also toner-transfer documentation layer after you finish with etching it looks nice.

  • Good vids.. :)

  • WHY must people continue to use toner transfer??

guess what? you can use photo etching with an inkjet printer (and the right overhead slides) and you get a much more accurate board.

  • @mashersmasher Photosensitive copper is more expensive than standard copper-layered PCB sheets. It helps when working on larger projects. However, photo transfer IS more accurate, and can produce perfect copies with re-usable printed templates... Okay, good point. :P

  • @ToBeOrNotToBeThatGuy the photo etching meathod can usually make much smaller traces meaning you can buy a much smaller board then using the toner transfer method. also if you know some other people who want to go in on making a board (not hard if you're in the geeky crowd :P) then you can also save a bit of money. also presensitzed boards are only a bit more then regular copper clad. OT: ferric chloride although toxic will also make your pee purple!

  • This is like a double Egon Spengler multidimension that will soon explode if Stantz and Venkman don't intercede.....

  • is that nine inch nails survivalism at the end? awesome vid btw

  • Wayy way too much work, plus i dont wanna get in trouble for buying scary chemicals.

  • @answerOfstupids You can't get in any kind of trouble for buying Ferric Chloride.... unless maybe you used it on someone else. Trust me, it is worth the trouble when you realize that if you used a breadboard for the final product, it would be so messed up.

  • I went to staples to try and get some of the "photo basic gloss" but they were out so I got a package of "photo plus glossy" but it didn't work in my HP Laserjet 1020, the toner didn't fuse in some places. I went online and found that the "photo basic gloss" is slightly thinner(only 8.5 mil thick) so now I have some on order for delivery.
