  • omg she's so adorable <3

  • What a precious angel. I used to sing that song when I was little. And although I no longer practice the Mormon faith nor attend church, this is still one of my favorite songs and I WILL teach it to my daughter.

  • Is there REALLY a religious argument going on right now? This is a small child singing a song. I find it so sad when people feel the need to find any reason they can to argue about religion, whether they have a faith or not.

  • @twiggyluv89 you are so right!

  • IM A MORMONNN ! (;

  • love the video by the way. My 17 month old loves it!

  • Mormon or not, we are ALL children of God. If you don't know now, you will someday.

  • WOW !!! How cute! I Love this.

  • Little girl believs what she wants

  • Oh she is adorable! I'm LDS and I LOVE listening to the Primary kids sing. And how DARE you so called "Christians" bash this! That is sick!

  • I cant belive some of you! You are freaking bashing her religion WHEN THIS IS NOT ABOUT HER RELIGION!! You people are just being jerks. She is singing a cute little song, so let her! I have been Mormon my ENTIRE LIFE, and I belive it. If I didn't, I wouldn't go to church! So stop bagging on the video, and go back to listing to something else!

  • So sad, she doesn't fully understand what she is saying, but she is obligated to accept it anyway due to the authority of her parents and church.

I would never indoctrinate my own child like this. I would give them time for their brain to form before introducing them to religion, not shove it down their throats when they are too under-developed to understand and question it rationally.

  • @appleguy77 As she gets older and learns to think for herself, she will choose to accept it or not. Teaching someone something religious IS NOT brainwashing. If you make that claim, you must also claim that any secular teachings of the world, the media, etc. brainwash us too. Everyone & every entity teaches and influences someone's beliefs, but it's a person's responsibility to choose whether to believe it or not. We are all accountable for what we choose to believe.

  • @chickenrace12

But that's not fair at all. Children accept what their parents tell them without any question, for good biological reasons. When they grow up, they will be so biased towards their religion they won't be able to think for themselves. They will see religion as something you can't question, something that's been proven long ago that's not up for debate.

  • @appleguy77 Well, let me ask you, do you believe and accept everything your parents and teachers taught you? Do you believe all that the media teaches you? Can you think for yourself? If you can, other people can. People who seek truth will always ask questions. People who don't care will go on living their lives and just have fun carrying on the family traditions they see as good. It is their choice, and no one can alter that enough to eliminate one's personal agency.

  • @chickenrace12

    pt2:

The reason people see religion this way is because they learned it from an authority figure, like a priest, that used systematic and forcible pressure to make the child adopt radically different beliefs = brainwashing. Look it up.

  • @appleguy77 Does religion really have more 'authority' or power over the minds of young people than the media these days? Media has a huge effect on influencing the youth (i.e., teaching that vanity and greed are more important than integrity and virtue).

So the question is, do I 'brainwash' my children with these 'horrible' religious principles (such as dignity, love, honesty, humility, etc.) or with values the media often glorifies & teaches? I think I'll wisely & happily choose the 1st :)

  • @appleguy77

    pt2:

How is teaching a child a simple song "forcing" the child to "adopt radically different" beliefs any more than any other song?

People often blame religion for their problems, but the problem is not religion. Religion is no different than any other entity, for they all in some way "forcibly pressure" (or in other words, influence) some idea to be taught to some audience.

Remember 'live and learn'? People are accountable for what they believe. It's not religion's fault.

  • @chickenrace12

What comes to mind as disturbing are phrases like "Lead me", "Teach me all that I must do". It conditions the children to be subservient, conform, and obey to authority. They are pressured into believing it from an authority figure until they never dare question the god that subjugates them. Not to mention the social pressures, leaving the church is committing social suicide, you can lose friends.

  • @appleguy77 Appleguy, I don't know about your personal experience w/ religion, and while some families, true, are raised with authoritarian style, many families have raised their children to ask questions and find out for themselves what they believe. The song "I am a Child of God" teaches submission to God, not man's authority, and the LDS church (to whom this song belongs) teaches their people to seek truth, not to merely accept it from its leaders. Search "Personal Revelation" on lds.org.

  • @chickenrace12

As for the claim that religion's influence is just like any other (media, secular sources, etc.). There are some key differences. Normally, when people want to influence our beliefs, they don't talk down to us, appealing authority, and to emotions like fear, so they can pressure us into believing dogma. And they certainly don't do it to children. And yes, an adult does have the means and the responsibility to choose wether to believe or not, but a child lacks critical reasoning.

  • @appleguy77 Watch the youtube trailer for the film entitled "Miss Representation." The media is constantly talking down to us, pressuring society to feel a certain way. Constant, subtle messages of fear and depreciation are communicated in the media daily ESPECIALLY to children. Marketing campaigns are constantly telling us how much we lack, so that we feel we MUST buy. They want kids to think "If I don't dress like this, I'll be a social outcast" or "People won't like me unless I have this."

  • @appleguy77 you're right... but the kid is cute.

  • What a little sheep.

  • You may not agree with the Mormon faith that her parents are bringing her up in, but to attack her and her parents is reprehensible.

She is a sweet little girl and I am sure her parents are raising her with love and as they think is right and proper.

No, I am not a Mormon. I am a lapsed Catholic.

  • OMG!!! she is the cutest thing ever. how old is she. she is a great singer for her young age. and it is amazing how she memorized the words to the song. :)

  • To the bashers: We are all trying to get to the same place. We are drawn toward the religions that we are able to understand and those which make sense to us. Do not condemn ANYONE who is in search of good. Even the Buddhist (sp?) in on a journy for light and truth. Ultimately, I believe that is what we are all searching for. Where we find it, and whether we embrace it or not, is our free agency. Do not condemn what (and who) you don't understand.

  • cute video :) that was my favorite song in church. Although I no longer attend the LSD church, or any church, I do miss that song :) as for the comment on Mormonism, I think it was out of line. I was raised mormon and do not believe in what I was taught still respect it and still invite elders to my home. I do think anyone should someone on their beliefs, it's hateful and against God no matter what religion you are in.

  • wow that didn't come out right, I meant "I do think it's wrong to bash someone on their beliefs."

  • This is true, I remember someone whispering in my ear telling me what to say during "my" testimony... Sounds like you've been to the church. BUT as crazy as the mormons are, they have the right to their beliefs just as you do. And If... I were a child, and another child or their parents told me To stay away because I was a mormon I would have been hurt. Children are what their parents raise them to be and should not be blamed. You seem just as awful as what you hate.
