@mactcampbell The set is called either "Cleveland Park" or "Kenny Gillies" . After the first one, which is "Cleveland Park" the tunes are "The Banks Of The Allan" and "Kenny Gillies Of Portnalong." The music for these tunes can be found at thesession doht org.
Wow! I've got a Mountain Stage show that I recorded off the radio back in the 90's, with this song in the set. I listened to the live version for years before I bought the studio version off iTunes last year. Thanks for posting this!
They were going to tour the US in 2008 but for some reason didn't - their website, at the time, said "hopefully in 2009"...but I guess that now looks rather unlikely too!!! Can't even get them to play in Scotland at the moment, thanks to being pretty much ignored by promoters etc - and that in the Year of Homecoming, it's a real shame!!!
I'll have to post a photo of myself in 1978 just to show I didn't have a mullet - there again I was never a dedicated follower of fashion :-) hope you enjoyed the tunes anyway :-)
This is NOT a song! I think the set is called "Kenny Gillies" and among the tunes played are "The Banks Of The Allan" and "Kenny Gillies Of Portnalong" The first one might be Cleveland Park but I am not sure about that. There is a DVD or VHS called "Captured Alive" available with the whole concert on it.
The set is known as Cleveland Park on their Pick Of The Litter album. Is this video available for sale somewhere or something? I'd really love to get my hands on it! Thanks for sharing!
@rebelpiper89 it's originally from the Unleashed album. Pick of the Litter was a best-of compilation. Which is kind of pointless, since their entire catalogue from Unleashed until The Half Tail was a best-of.
This brings back so many great memories. The original and best. So in love with Dunc and the rest of the boys. What a great night Kay and had with them in Orkney May 1996.xx
Terra Firma took them in a 'new direction'. A bit more mainstream in terms of the songs on it, though the tunes were as 'traditional' (traditionally arranged) as ever which is why some people think it's a bit "unbalanced"...I think it's a good album, though not their best ;-)
Band members at the time: Ivan Drever, Duncan Chisholm, Struan Eaglesham, Stuart Eaglesham, Andy Murry, Wayne MacKenzie, Graeme Youngson and Roddy McCourt
Hell yeah, that was my fav line up. must have seen them about 20 times around then. wasn't the same when Andy left and poor Roddy took his own life. very sad. they all left great and lasting memories tho
Ivan Drever and Andy Murray have got back together to form a new band. The IVAN DREVER BAND hit the road next month around the Highlands. Gig lisitings on their myspace profile (ivandreverband)
The lineup has changed a bit since the one in these clips. Based in Dingwall/Inverness but Colin Cunningham is from Dundee paired and the drummer Alyn Cosker is from Ayrshire and singer/guitarist Ross Hamilton is from Glasgow. Quite a few changes - the fiddler is still Duncan Chisholm. Website is wolfstone dot co dot uk.
Scotland smiles with pride!!

Maybe not, but Stuart Eaglesham is a brilliant frontman ;-)

Awesome band! Wish they'd come play the US again soon.

Saw them live years ago when Ivan Drever was fronting the band. Fantastic gig. I gather they've gone more mainstream now?
Surfpunk69 3 years ago 5
Wouldn't say that, they've always been quite rock orientated and the traditional elements are still very much a feature :-)
itsablack1 3 years ago
In fact, I would say that they now sound more traditional to me, that's why I prefer them with Ivan.
blindwilliehighlight 3 years ago 3
????? Listen to Terra Firma and tell me if you still think they're more traditional than before LOL :-)
itsablack1 3 years ago
Terra Firma was cool stuff! I notice they have arranging tunes written by the late Gordon Duncan. Not that I'm complaining

Ross Hamilton is no longer in the band. Davie Dunsmuir is playing electric guitar now. Stuart Eaglesham is back as frontman again.
