when you have experience in playing any string instument, it'll be easier for you to play instruments like this. by the way, thanks so much for posting this vid. i was gonna buy a violin and i bought one... but when i looked at it closer, i realized IT'S A VIOLA! so yeah, seeing how you performed in this vid, i guess it's not bad owning a viola!
Sorry. x3 I have a little bit of a bias. I haven't heard a viola solo before this one so I got really happy. I was beginning to think that they didn't exist. But then, I've never looked on youtube for a good viola solo before. Violins are pretty too, I just don't like the fact that they almost always get the melody. But you're right, both instruments have beautiful sound.
1. This is a Great music and I am so happy it is arranged for the viola. the viola, in my opinion, has a very earthy sound and very very beautiful and I think that this is perfect for it!!
2. I really wished you played the movements in order!!!! It may be different from the actual piece but still...
3. You had a little intonation problems when you got up to the higher register, But thats ok...
It is a tradition to cough and make the loudest noises possible while during a concert or when a piece is being performed? Jeez.............but this is beautiful!
I'd really like to know a website to print out the Viola sheet music for this. Especially the part around 9:22, I love this song. Amazing. If anyone knows a website I'd love you if you'd tell me! (:
I've only been practicing the viola for two years, so I'm not as great at playing it, but I love the way the viola sounds. I'm really happy I chose it, and this video just made me happier to have chosen it.
I love the way she performs, the sound is rich, and I was in awe, especially at the pizzicato part!
I play the viola as well and I think that the viola is the most elegant instrument. It's nice to see so many other people who love this gorgeous instrument!
she is now my favorite idol i've been playing viola for so long and i use to be the only one and now i'm happy to see that ppl feel the same way as i do about this lovely instrument :)
I know my violin playing friend was like "What do the violas even do?!" and I was annoyed at him because it's such a major part that if you didn't have it, well who knows it's just important
I agree. The viola is such a delightgul insturment. I play it. I mean I love all the others but I will always stick with the viola. Its just that special!
I was going to play viola coz I liked the sound so much but I was more natural at cello, I love both instrumnets and might play viloa later. Also I love R & J music!!!
Merely because one does not memorize the music does not mean that they are paying any less attention to the artistic aspects of the music. I have an inability to memorize, but my artisticism never suffers.

It is certainly a nice try but I am slightly bewildered nobody above had realized the army of notes out of tune. It is rather disillusioning. Also, I believe pieces like these ought to be learnt by memory so MUCH more attention could be payed to artistic aspects.I find this as a decent schoolgirlish performance somewhere mid-collage. She has a long way to go but definitely is talented.
Do you have talent too, or are you just a mouth? I have little patience for people who can do nothing but criticize. It's worse when they're bad players, too.
One description told to me years ago, a Viola is like taking a violin and pouring cream on it. Giving the instrument a less 'tinny' far deeper, richer sound.:)
I'm 13 and play Viola. Been playing about 6 months, my teacher says I'm doing really well.
Olga, I think you're amazing. Truly. And I like the comment you made about "contributing to the Viola's solo repertoire." That made me happy. Sometimes I feel almost jealous of Violinists - They get all the melody to themselves.
And I think that the G string really does sound the nicest.
I totally agree with the whole"contributing to the Viola's solo repertoire." thing. Iv been playing the viola for 5 yrs. I know what you mean when you say your jealous of the violins. Its true when playing in an orchestra the violins always get the melody and the violas get the harmony. It gets so annoying after a while. I also agree that the G string sounds the nicest. I think it does too.
I absolutely adore her playing. I play cello and I've always admired the viola, because it has a nice lovely balance low/high ranges and a particularly pleasent mid range. It's unfortunate that more people don't realize this, especially composers.
The violin is usually smaller than the viola, and the violin has a higher e-string (the viola has a lower c-string). So the viola produces a lower pitched sound.
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing! I have a question. I've been trying to find this piece for months. Would you mind telling me where you were able to find it?
I love this piece and I love your playing. I am a viola performance major. Is this a recital for music school?? If so which?? Your technique is beutiful! Your sound is gorgeuos. I would just watch that your left elbow goes too high sometimes. That's really all. Great work, hopefully I run into you in the future.

her elbow needs to swing higher so she cant get to the lower strings..its hard to get used to it especfially when you play violin for 6 years and then you have to start viola..
