I agree with 'wolfof paso', I served 2 years with the British Army of Occupation in Germany and enjoyed every moment of it. If I was not English, I would be very happy to be a German. They have my utmost admiration for their industry and success since WW2. Well done!
I was in Germany with the US Army of occupation, I found the German people to be a wonderful people, their music, their food and the entire culture I fell in love with, alas, I am not German but I wish the he** I was.
@wolfofpaso I´m german and served in the Luftwaffe ( German Airforce) from 1987-1991. Together with our american comrades we defended Germany and Western-Europe against the communists.
Thanks to all GI´s. You came as enemies then became liberators, later on allies and protectors and now you are friends and partners. God bless America! God bless the German-American friendship!
Hitler, he only had one ball, Goering, he had two but very small, Himmler had something simmler, But poor old Goebbels had no balls at all. Whistle Chorus: Frankfurt has only one beer hall, Stuttgart, die München all on call, Munich, vee lift our tunich, To show vee 'Cherman' have no balls at all. Whistle Chorus: Hans Otto is very short, not tall, And blotto, for drinking Singhai and Skol. A 'Cherman', unlike Bruce Erwin, Because Hans Otto has no balls at all.

The piece was originally written in 1914 by Kenneth Alford. It was accompanied by a counter-melody (known as "The River Kwai March") written by the film's composer, Malcolm Arnold. (wiki)
WOW! What a tempo. Imagine marching at that speed. I like the upbeat. Great brass on the trio . . . and the drums are great. Nice arrangement. But again, wouldn't want to march at that tempo
@darkmini Comes out at 122bpm. I agree I wouldn't like to play it at that speed on the march, although there are rgiments that do march at those speeds! Used as a "concert march" I wouldn't call that excessive. My personal taste is more toward 112 for marches of this era, or even a slow as 108. Sometimes listening to very old recordings is a bit of a surprise compared to how we hear them today!
The band does a nice job, but the percussion (drum) part is terrible. Why not use the original?? This new percussion part is out of place and is also very distracting. The arranger should be ashamed of himself/herself.
I thought just the opposite. It was a fresh take on a popular tune. (Modern) German, BRD and DDR armed forces bands are very good at music and I liked East Germany's take on a lot of Russian music.
@oldbobg: Bob from 1955 afrer the re-arming of Germany within Nato. British America and French soldiers in Germany were not 'Ocupying forces' They were stationed as part of Nato on equal terms with German Forces. Some of the Best generals within Nato were Germans; ex Whermacht officers with WW2 experience.
@overopensights I agree with you; however, since I was a boy, we (UK, USA, Soviet) we were labled that. The Germans are our friends, thank God. All we have to do now is worry about our civil populations!!
@oldbobg: If you Like German Military bands. Try 'Marsch des Yorck'chen corps.' Hear it through to the end. Also 'British army bands in London' both quite spectacular.

From the head wear, this event is old. I presume they are saying "good bye" to the occuying forces, by playing their music, correct?

Yes, farewell ceremony allied troops from Berlin 1994.
