@Artislife1982 Wish I had more videos like this posted... :P If you have a request for something let me know. I always wanted to put more videos like this up but didn't have the audience for it (at the time). :)
what the fuck are you doing with your hands? you dont know nothing about it. you must be on drugs.and you are nervous to talk bc you dont know nothing about it.
I actaully thought this was good for reaching a different group of people than the norm OM people who already know this stuff. This would be a good way to reach kids with his energy levels! Good job and thanks for doing the video and to anyone who wants to help lift us and help make a better world I say good for you!
People are too overly concerned about this guy's arms movements while not listening to his message and the fact that he's trying to help us all with some good tips.
Maybe his next video should be about diminishing ADHD symptoms. Maybe meditation itself helps, but then again, they are distracted with his arms and can’t listen.
It would be cool if people could go past physical things and listen to the message. Negatively criticizing someone makes you feel good, huh!?!
@TwistedMind6969 Whatever floats people's boat. I communicate with my speech and body. It works really well for some, and not so well for others. They might need to find someone who communicates with a style more suited to them. :)
finaly someone who make since in all this meditation stuff, thank you for sharing your experience, nice and clear....
Do you have a mantra for your self?
if yes...how does someone like me find his own mantra?
another thing ...meditation twice a day , morning and evening , 20 minutes each time, what is the best time for this moment of bliss of calmess of the mind and heart ?
in a perfect world, everyone has their own take on the same thing, even when the thing in question is meditation. What I like about this guy is that he's already down with the "detachment" thing, which makes a lot of sense... he doesn't say its right or wrong, just that its cool! You have to feel like nothing is more important than anything else if you want to get the most out of your meditation IMX (in my experience).
@phoenixhoneybee When they teach you they give you a mantra. My research told me that originally they used one mantra for everyone, but they eventually switched to giving each person a different (based on their age and sex maybe). When I was taught I was told the importance of the mantra was to have something that wasn't an English word so it wouldn't have any connection to anything. It seems like you could use pretty much anything for a mantra as long as it doesn't mean anything to you.
@Soldier957 When you know what it means, it conjures up thoughts about what it means. The "goal" is to not be thinking about anything (even though your mind will drift, you just bring it back when it does). You could still use that if you wanted to (I guess), but it wouldn't be TM (if you know what I'm saying). Remember, I'm not a teacher or anything, I'm just sharing my personal opinions. I'd recommend learning from someone (even if you decide not to learn TM). Then you can get ?s answered. ;)
@Soldier957 if the meaning is of material nature.Om Namah Shivay is simply a tribute to one aspect of the universal energy. It is spiritual in nature, not material.
@cppeterson1 No, the visitor weekend allowed me to check out the school, ask questions, and see what it was all about. I went out a second time (for another, extended, visitor weekend) to learn the meditation. If you nose around their website, you'll see information about attaining a scholarship to help pay for the instruction. I think I spent about $50. :)
I strongly believe that the teachers are saying that there isnt any way of learning to meditade apart from attending their lessons because they want money.the lessons are really expensive
@placebo150 None of them say that their way is the only/best way. There was is just one way. If it's interesting, check it out. If it isn't, check something else out. The goal is to find something that's good for you. There are PLENTY of places to learn to meditate for free. You can find the TM techniques online if you look. There are people that teach the same thing for less (I provided links to some). It's all good. :) Good luck with your searching.
@MonacoRocha Just because you can't afford the $1,500 doesn't make it bullshit. Besides, $1,500 isn't even that much money to spend on something you believe. AND you can learn for free if you wanted to, there's a scholarship program (that's how I learned, I think I said that in the video...)
miltownkid: Is it possible to learn this on your own? It's about $2,000 to learn TM. If you can't learn it on your own, could you at least tell me what were the techniques taught to you specifically? Thanks!
@NaturaTek I put links in the more info area to places where you can learn for cheap or free (the same/similar techniques). They also have a scholarship program which is how I learned.
I've been doing the 'house holder' TM tecnique for going on 30 years, seems pretty good so far. Yes I 've had some very 'freaky' expiriences, but as long as you are in a physically safe environmemt, your meditation will ALWAYS be an UNharmful expirience.
TM is MY #1 treasure I've have found (and I have many fine 'treasures')
I interviewed quite a few people before I parted w/ my money & took a 'risk' ...they had all said "it's fine, just do it"
I feel for you. I suffer from Bipolar 1. Meditation works me I have such a problem with consistency and self destructive behavior. Thanks for your video and the confidence to talk about you bipolar.
I’m a long-time TM practitioner and I’ll try to give some reasons why TM is not taught in a book.
1. Compare it to learning how to ride a bicycle. It’s very simple, but surely you can't learn it from a book.
And learning how to go into silence, beyond thoughts, is a much more subtle process than riding a bike: Every thought, like "Now I should do this or that", can disturb it. So the only way is for an experienced person to guide you step by step.
2. Thoughts at the subtle level of the mind are more powerful. That’s why the TM teacher selects a mantra that is wholesome for you, both mind and body.
3. The little ceremony before the instruction helps the teacher to give you the absolutely best experience possible.
I’m sure all great teachers of the past have taught TM -- under different names, but essentially the same technique. They didn’t write it down, for the same reasons. If you’re Christian, read Matthew 6:6-8.
To my mind, that’s the exact description of TM and TM-Siddhis. And I'm told the Quran says: "Remember the name of the Lord in the mornings and in the evenings." That could mean TM, too.
I hope you give it a try. Many have done so before you and most of them continue doing it twice daily for the rest of their lives, at home, without visiting meetings or involving with any organisation. Just look at David Lynch. He was doing it for thirty years and nobody knew about it, and now...
If anyone sees this, I seriously need some help and some advice. I've been doing T.M. for about a month now. I was doing it at the rate of about 10-30 minutes per day, while taking wellbutrin along with a daily dose of exercise.
Just a few days ago, I went into a trance, and saw some pretty horrific shit for about a half hour. I felt like I was being taken over by something. As soon as I snapped out of it, I had just realized what had happened. I've been freaking out ever since.
@MoonLightFacade On top of that, for the past three days I've been having escalating symptoms comparable to those which pertain to individuals who are under the influence of psychedelic drugs such as LSD or mushrooms.
This is not normal, and something is wrong, because this state of mind refuses to cease to be. I feel like my right brain is taking over, and like I'm going insane. Not fun. Need help, please help.
@MoonLightFacade Check in with your instructor. It also looks like they could be symptoms of your medication, so check with your doctor. From Wikipedia: "Psychotic symptoms associated with bupropion are rare. They may include delusions, hallucinations, paranoia, and confusion. Often, these symptoms can be reduced or eliminated by decreasing the dose or ceasing treatment."
@miltownkid Yeah, I do have a feeling that could definitely play a part. According to my therapist, I shouldn't have been meditating for more than 10 minutes though because of my young age (18). I unfortunately do not have an instructor, and decided to undertake this without any instruction period. Probably my downfall in the end, but oh well. Anyway, I appreciate you getting back to me on this.
@MoonLightFacade did you actually learn the TM technique, taught by a certified TM teacher? many people use the term T.M. to refer to meditation in general or somethiing they learned on the Internet or somewhere, when it isn't TM that they learned. it doesn't sound like TM that you are doing, but something else. you can learn the TM technique only from a certified teacher, and it's very different from all other things that people call meditation. nothing scary about TM.
@Dina206EX2 All I did was concentrate on my breath, with the goal of clearing my mind in the process. Eventually, I became rather good at it, and this was what lead me into the trance I believe. It may have had something to do with chakra mediation, but I swear to God ever since my perception of things has been very comparable to a state of mild psychosis.
@MoonLightFacade Dear Moonlightfacade, Like Dina, I have the feeling you’re not doing Maharishi’s transcendental meditation. I recommend you get into contact with a certified TM teacher to clear up your doubts. Even if you never learned TM, they have enough experience to guide you. Of course, they may recommend you learn TM and I also think that would the best, if your medication allows. If you can’t afford it, tell them just that, and they’ll try to find a way. Look at tm dot org.
@MoonLightFacade I also do TM and I agree with MiltonKid. This effect is most likely due to your medication. But it would be wise to check with the people who gave you these things. I.E. check with your doctor about your medication and check with your TM instructor about your meditation. For example the amount of time you meditate should be 20 minutes two times per day. If the meditation time is erratic it may not give the maximum benefit. The body and mind like a regular routine.
Meditation cannot be taught, because it is a state of relaxation that is natural to you. To meditate you must unlearn what you have learned. I am still beginning on the path to self-enlightenment, but I did not spend a single penny to learn to meditate. Try it on your own.
@nubface113 Maybe. I think it can definitely be taught and I also think people can learn to meditate without being taught. Everyone's path is different.
Thing about TM that amazes me most is that NONE of you adherents ever actually SAY exactly how to do it. If TM is concerned with helping others why must I pay $2K to get in ground level? Mindfulness meditation and most other forms of meditation are presented absolutely free in books & on line. Do you have to sign an agreement not to tell how this thing is done? A lot of folks know TM, none are giving it away simple and free. To me, that smacks of Cult activity. Thanks.
@bullmeecham I see you DIDN'T look at what I wrote and the links I provided in more info. You should do that first. I'll wait... Done? Good. For as long as it took you to write that you could have found the instructions for TM online somewhere. There are scholarships available to people that can't afford it. I can't remember if I signed an agree not to tell people, but I was definitely asked not to and I've done my best to respect their wishes.
@miltownkid Looked over your stuff here before I commented, & searched TM over the net totally & you all seem very strangely compelled to NOT tell exactly I do mean exactly how it's done. So I wonder why? Fear, cult, signed agreement?
Look, it's cool I just wonder at the mystical front to "hide" what they do. Every form of meditation is utterly public, easy to find except TM. Not an attack on you, just question TM methods. You're a positive guy, peace.
@bullmeecham If the folks at TM were as genuinely connected to goodness and helping others as they often claim to be, their methods would be completely and perfectly explained in a series of videos on YT, on their main site, or on a cheap $5 DVD free shipping to anywhere. That they are all about the money one pays to learn & utter a single mantra while breathing correctly is very, very sketchy to me no matter how profound the experience. I will learn it when it's free.
@bullmeecham Basically if they gave it away for free they couldn't have full-time teachers. I'm with you 100%. There's a lot of stuff going on politically with the "TM movement." There are people that feel exactly as you do and are trying to figure out how to provide it for a lower cost. I think most of those people just start their own thing. I didn't pay the $1,500, but I think it's worth it. And yes, there are a lot of "cultish" things about the TM movement. The meditation is still cool. :)
@bullmeecham If you can, I HIGHLY recommend going to Fairfield Iowa and checking it out for yourself. It's a very interesting experience. :) Plus, the first time you go, they'll cover your living expenses for like $50 (for a weekend). It was $10 when I went the first time.
@MBG1991 I believe you follow the steps on the TM DOTorg website. I think the David Lynch foundation is the money behind the scholarships on their site (I'm not sure though). I think it's best to contact both the TM website and the David Lynch foundation.
@FletcherHabit I should do a video about that... :) Yes and no. Yes because it seems to have a lot of cult like qualities (but so do many religious, political and other organizations). No because cult is a word reserved for "bad"... cults. lol I suppose pseudo-cult would be an adequate descriptor. I like the meditation though.
When you reach the point in meditation where your body is completely numb, you feel your soul as a body, and your mind is 100% completely relaxed, and you don't wonder, or even have a question or care in the world, you are probably there. Another great hint, is when you snap out of it and come back, it takes a while to move your body, and most of the time you will swear that you were not even breathing the whole time you were under, yet you obviously were.
@78Divini That sounds about right to me. I don't "try" to have these experiences, but it's weird when you're like... "gone." You just "wake up" and are like "Where was I?" lol
@78Divini I'm so very glad I gave TM a chance even though people were saying it's fraud etc. It really does work and it is in my experience better than Buddhist type meditations as it's much, much easier to do. Possibly the best and most intelligent thing I've decided to do. It is at the moment helping me get through my very intense Cambridge University degree. Never thought something so simple could help me so much.
im kind of confused i was taught how to do this with the montra and everything for free in a public high school i did some research with google and it says its actually illegal to have tm taught in public schools becuz its actually religous
I've just visited a TM trainer and have said I will return to do the course.
I have read a lot of people saying you shouldn't have to pay for this, and I'm a bit confused why ??
Would I expect to learn Photography for free at my local evening college ?? Sure, I could teach myself ?? Plus, I do find it easy ??
I negotiated honestly with the trainer what I can afford, he gave me 3 hours of his time plus I've now got 6 hours of training, plus follow on support, plus further support if I need
I give you five stars for enthusiasm. My mother, now almost 90 years old, introduced Me to TM in the early 1960s. I learned to meditate, for free, and it gives me great peace of mind. Or , in your words, I chill.
In no way am I judging you but you are missing the point of meditation completely.....I will admit at first it is a chilling of the mind....But trancendental means to ACTUALLY transcend something....This "something' is your physical form...and in transcending this physical form your have enterend into a very mystical...very spiritual place of pure love and pure peace....I would look deeper my friend. God can be found within.....the source of all life dwells within you.
what is with your heart when your brian is clear and everything can be inside U when U close up mind, not fun it is credibly scare that uncnown world can keep control about your brine, stoped the Soul ,heart and body what will be when u did mistake???? no place for crying it is dangeres addiction which can be first step for your destroction
nothing new, a litle diferences between TM and mantra meditation but the essence is there. What screws TM official is the moneyenvolve...Nobody should and would pay for feeling good to your self, feeling cured and feel others useful..
Paying for it is BS. I found a website from a former TM student. You pay for mantras based on your sex, age. Total baloney.
I do in fact meditate twice a day, 30 minutes each sitting and I follow my breath. If my mind wanders, I'll gently bring it back. It has changed my life dramatically and I love it. Mindfulness meditation.
Folks, it's free. Just like oxygen and sleep. Try it for a year, and you will see a real shift in your life. Yes, it's free and waiting for you.
Here's a link for learning the actually TM technique from ex TM trainers of 30 yrs +. Check it out. You do not need an instructor to follow these instructions, or at least I didn't. I feel the price is ludicrous and if something is considered so valuable that it's "priceless" than it should be free. How one puts a price on priceless is beyond me. It also has some not so cool opinions so take it all with a grain of salt but be open. minet(DOT)org/Documents/TM-FAQ
This is simple: The word of God says to do this each day with the Father/God/Jesus.. Looking at the eyes I can see this man knows about God and meditation, but like all things in life it's a choice in the end: Either Jesus and peace, or the Devil and negative that wont last..
Here is a free meditation mantra...just focus on your breath. If your mind wonders, don't get frustrated, simply bring your attention back on your breath, until you can stay focused on this for longer and longer periods of time. There is no such thing as any special, or magical mantra. Once you have a clear understanding of how this works, anything can become meditation...it is simply learning how to be single minded or totally focused on one thing and in the present moment. Peace!
Unfortunately you can't learn for yourself. Check out the research--it's quite conclusive. There isn't a single, teach-it-yourself meditation that works. Almost without exception people who teach themselves, or learn for a book, etc. discontinue shortly after learning, because the benefits just aren't there.
@2beonly Someone at some point in time had to "learn for themselves" if you know what I'm saying. ;) That being said, I'd recommend taking the time to learn from a teacher.
@miltownkid Not necessarily true. The simplest transcendental technique is breathing in for a count of 8 and breathing out for a count of 8. Any words that you attach to this rhythm harmonize with the individual mind/body and the outside conscious environment. There you owe me $1500. I really wish "The Movement" would get rid of the Hindu gods in their mantras. They can easily be replaced, but at the same time, I prefer using Sanskrit words.
@MagnanimousMichael Did you mean to reply to someone else? All I said was "Someone at some point in time had to 'learn for themselves' if you know what I'm saying. ;) That being said, I'd recommend taking the time to learn from a teacher." I'm not sure how your comment applies to that... That said, I didn't pay the $1,500. There is tuition available for people that look into it. I've also since learned other meditations and... I still think being guided by a teacher is a good idea. :)
@ishthealaskan The tuition to learn the meditation? It's all on the tm.org website. $1,500 for adults, half for students and scholarships for people who need them (I got a scholarship ;) ).
@ishthealaskan Go to TM DOT ORG -> Click "Contact Us" or call the number -> Tell them you're interested in learning TM, but would need the a scholarship. -> Tell them I sent you! (lol Just kidding about that last one... But maybe it'll help? ;) )
What I had to do was apply for school, travel to Iowa to check out the school and I learned it over the weekend. It was pretty sweet. :)
@MagnanimousMichael what you explained was a simple breathing technique, TM includes breathing techniques, visualizations to relax the body, experiencing physical numbness of the body and visualizing a symbol or word within the mind to help focus, and quiet the brain and thought patterns. Eventually all there is nothingness, or just that 1 symbol or word you visualized.
I've done meditations for years, and there's a huge difference between TM and breathing meditations to relax, HUGE!
@2beonly Not true. Ive reached bliss states of the inner most depths of consciousness without any teacher at all. Everyone has in themselves the capacity to wake up, and it is only you who can do it. No one can do it for you. Teachers are a good thing, but isnt nescesary.
You are especially beautiful, thanks a ton for your video recording. it is sad im living in Dover considering that i can't purchase high quality makeup, on the other hand i find no charge cosmetic samples through 'Gratis Makeup Samples'. i love Max factor makeup!
Incredible upbeat simple sharing of one man's view of a useful tool which is now available to everyone to become a better person. I learned TM as a 12 year old when my brother came home from MIU what MUM used to be called in the 70's and i didn't utilize the gift after i went away to college at first. I had to realize it's valua again after I met someone who meditated regularly and I came to MUM to become a Sidha in 2007. I use the 20 min technique and an extended program and it is amazing!
I was very skeptical about it myself. So much so that I almost didn't learn TM. It took me three years to actually go and do it. It's been a few weeks and I'm very happy with it. It's nice to chill and dive within. It's a simple mental technique. That's all. There's no new age mumbo jumbo, thankfully, although there are people within the inner circles, deep within the movement who I think talk a load of nonsense, but hey, you get those people everywhere.
I'd love to learn TM but like many people, haven't got the $1500 that is required to do so. Kinda makes you wonder if someone a while back had the idea of slapping a Trademark on something that has been taught for free for centuries.
I'm also suspicious of the way that TM spokespeople downgrade all other kinds of meditation in comparison to TM.
On the plus side, I'm a big David Lynch and Seinfeld fan ;D)
I think you should really have included some more references in your video, to what Dr. Hagglin has been saying with his research in to Quantum mechanics. 20 Thousand people have seen this now, and you have failed to mention that SCIENCE is proving this to be correct. Thank you for your enthusiasm, you can barely contain it!
all of you thinking of doing this . don't. what the dont tell you is that the initation is a guided trance. i.e hypnosis. you learn to put your self into a trance on your own. long term use of this leads to depersonlization and other psycological disorders. i know because i was born where he was talking about in fairfield iowa.
that quote at the end is rediculous lol... thats not wisdom ha ha thqats called selfishness and self focused lol... its more honorbale that one does what is right regardless of the effects on ones self. that is certainly more noble a persuit.... Just like Jesus Christ did.... go check that guy out lol
I have been looking into TM for a wile, and I keep hearing that it is a effortless and very simple form of meditation. I am curious as to why, if its so simple and easy, it needs to be taught by trained instructors and why the technique cant simply be passed on from one person to another. The Courses are quite expensive, is it not possible for you to simply share the technique with us? Or is there some other reason why people arent sharing this information?

I tried posting my video on a different video, but they wont let me have it there, so I'm going to post it here again; look at my video to learn how to do transcendental meditation for free!
I just don't understand why if its such a great thing and Mahareshi is such a great person. Then why doesn't he demand that it be free or a smaller price like $10 and donate the $10 to a good cause? $1500 and you have thousands around the world practice it. Why don't you charge $10 to a Billion and really change the world? Or even better make it free and ask for donations only like "normal" good people do?
I started TM years ago and find it invaluable in my life. After my 20 minutes of TM I have a ton of ideas, feel positive about life, less stressed, and mentally sharp. Its worth every penny. You'll get your sound/mantra and how to use it. TM teachers are paid by your fee and the center is supported. They are available to answer any questions or follow up about TM for free as long as you need. Like any organization you may meet some querky people but the technique is solid and works.
@djPIDJEON At no point has TM claimed (officially, I can't speak for individuals) that meditation is something that people cannot learn themselves. TM does not have a lock on the meditation market; no one is obligated to pay to learn TM if they simply want to learn a meditation technique. However, TM is one of the very few (if not the only) techniques that is scientifically validated by a number if different, very reputable institutions. I believe there is something like 7 volumes of research.
@djPIDJEON I disagree, in the sense that there are not professional oxygen teachers who put in significant amounts of their own time teaching you to breath.
Paying for TM is more like paying for food, a house, or medical care. Yes, I think everyone should have it, but professional meditation teachers have the same living expenses as anyone else, and thus must charge people for the time they put in teaching.
At least you participate in bringing understanding to humanity- there are a lot worse things to do... BTW, what are the exact techniques so I can save my recession money on the course
Wow, no compassion- acceptance or gratitude from these people huh? No wonder they're cruisin' the internet lookin' for peace. I know you did a good thing and as a marketing guru I say let your personality shine- shine on guy! Y'know I meet hundreds of people a day and I know many with your exact mannerisms -
Please don't be suckered into paying for MEDITATION! You can learn YOURSELF! JUST READ! TM is a SCAM that capitalizes on something that's inherently FREE FOR ALL PEOPLE
Well meditation can mean alot... And if you learn all your meditations from a book you can be doing harm. Meditation is natural and for all people.. infact I'd go as far as to say its the most natural practice about humans in general to develop/furth ect.. And only saying this "mystical" makes it seem as though its not.. A teacher for meditation methods in general can be useful though.. In TM maybe not needed.. But deep meditations it'd be hard to go without in the beginning.
@djPIDJEON do you know a good book or article or video i can learn from ? and why do you say you can learn it by yourself, although the creator himself said NO
The creator of "TM" essentially took the very fundamental basics of meditation, gave it a fancy name, and advertised it by appealing to his middle-aged, working-class target audience. You'll see what I mean once you get your hands on any half-decent reading material on meditation.
@djPIDJEON There's a german/austrian movie starting in Europe shortly and probably 2011 in the US about the history of TM and what has become of it. Extremely insightful.
Your explanation is epic. Thanks.

It seems like you could use pretty much anything for a mantra as long as it doesn't mean anything to you.
miltownkid 10 months ago
@miltownkid I really really like the Om nama shivaya mantra. But you can't use it if you realize what it means?
Soldier957 8 months ago
@Soldier957 When you know what it means, it conjures up thoughts about what it means. The "goal" is to not be thinking about anything (even though your mind will drift, you just bring it back when it does). You could still use that if you wanted to (I guess), but it wouldn't be TM (if you know what I'm saying). Remember, I'm not a teacher or anything, I'm just sharing my personal opinions. I'd recommend learning from someone (even if you decide not to learn TM). Then you can get ?s answered. ;)
miltownkid 8 months ago
@Soldier957 if the meaning is of material nature.Om Namah Shivay is simply a tribute to one aspect of the universal energy. It is spiritual in nature, not material.

when you went to the visitor's weekend did they teach you TM for free (meaning, just the registration cost)?
cppeterson1 10 months ago
@cppeterson1 No, the visitor weekend allowed me to check out the school, ask questions, and see what it was all about. I went out a second time (for another, extended, visitor weekend) to learn the meditation. If you nose around their website, you'll see information about attaining a scholarship to help pay for the instruction. I think I spent about $50. :)

I interviewed quite a few people before I parted w/ my money & took a 'risk' ...they had all said "it's fine, just do it"
They were right..!

Great clip, Miltownkid!
Continued...
geketube 1 year ago
2/3

Good luck!
geketube 1 year ago
If anyone sees this, I seriously need some help and some advice. I've been doing T.M. for about a month now. I was doing it at the rate of about 10-30 minutes per day, while taking wellbutrin along with a daily dose of exercise.
Just a few days ago, I went into a trance, and saw some pretty horrific shit for about a half hour. I felt like I was being taken over by something. As soon as I snapped out of it, I had just realized what had happened. I've been freaking out ever since.
MoonLightFacade 1 year ago
@MoonLightFacade On top of that, for the past three days I've been having escalating symptoms comparable to those which pertain to individuals who are under the influence of psychedelic drugs such as LSD or mushrooms.
This is not normal, and something is wrong, because this state of mind refuses to cease to be. I feel like my right brain is taking over, and like I'm going insane. Not fun. Need help, please help.
MoonLightFacade 1 year ago
@MoonLightFacade Check in with your instructor. It also looks like they could be symptoms of your medication, so check with your doctor. From Wikipedia: "Psychotic symptoms associated with bupropion are rare. They may include delusions, hallucinations, paranoia, and confusion. Often, these symptoms can be reduced or eliminated by decreasing the dose or ceasing treatment."
miltownkid 1 year ago
@miltownkid Yeah, I do have a feeling that could definitely play a part. According to my therapist, I shouldn't have been meditating for more than 10 minutes though because of my young age (18). I unfortunately do not have an instructor, and decided to undertake this without any instruction period. Probably my downfall in the end, but oh well. Anyway, I appreciate you getting back to me on this.
MoonLightFacade 1 year ago
@MoonLightFacade did you actually learn the TM technique, taught by a certified TM teacher? many people use the term T.M. to refer to meditation in general or somethiing they learned on the Internet or somewhere, when it isn't TM that they learned. it doesn't sound like TM that you are doing, but something else. you can learn the TM technique only from a certified teacher, and it's very different from all other things that people call meditation. nothing scary about TM.
Dina206EX2 1 year ago
@Dina206EX2 All I did was concentrate on my breath, with the goal of clearing my mind in the process. Eventually, I became rather good at it, and this was what lead me into the trance I believe. It may have had something to do with chakra mediation, but I swear to God ever since my perception of things has been very comparable to a state of mild psychosis.
MoonLightFacade 1 year ago
@MoonLightFacade Dear Moonlightfacade, Like Dina, I have the feeling you’re not doing Maharishi’s transcendental meditation. I recommend you get into contact with a certified TM teacher to clear up your doubts. Even if you never learned TM, they have enough experience to guide you. Of course, they may recommend you learn TM and I also think that would the best, if your medication allows. If you can’t afford it, tell them just that, and they’ll try to find a way. Look at tm dot org.
geketube 1 year ago
@MoonLightFacade I also do TM and I agree with MiltonKid. This effect is most likely due to your medication. But it would be wise to check with the people who gave you these things. I.E. check with your doctor about your medication and check with your TM instructor about your meditation. For example the amount of time you meditate should be 20 minutes two times per day. If the meditation time is erratic it may not give the maximum benefit. The body and mind like a regular routine.
Cali4yaDreaming 1 year ago
Meditation cannot be taught, because it is a state of relaxation that is natural to you. To meditate you must unlearn what you have learned. I am still beginning on the path to self-enlightenment, but I did not spend a single penny to learn to meditate. Try it on your own.
nubface113 1 year ago 2

Thanks.
bullmeecham 1 year ago
@bullmeecham I see you DIDN'T look at what I wrote and the links I provided in more info. You should do that first. I'll wait... Done? Good. For as long as it took you to write that you could have found the instructions for TM online somewhere. There are scholarships available to people that can't afford it. I can't remember if I signed an agree not to tell people, but I was definitely asked not to and I've done my best to respect their wishes.
miltownkid 1 year ago
@miltownkid Looked over your stuff here before I commented, & searched TM over the net totally & you all seem very strangely compelled to NOT tell exactly I do mean exactly how it's done. So I wonder why? Fear, cult, signed agreement?
Look, it's cool I just wonder at the mystical front to "hide" what they do. Every form of meditation is utterly public, easy to find except TM. Not an attack on you, just question TM methods. You're a positive guy, peace.
bullmeecham 1 year ago
@bullmeecham If the folks at TM were as genuinely connected to goodness and helping others as they often claim to be, their methods would be completely and perfectly explained in a series of videos on YT, on their main site, or on a cheap $5 DVD free shipping to anywhere. That they are all about the money one pays to learn & utter a single mantra while breathing correctly is very, very sketchy to me no matter how profound the experience. I will learn it when it's free.
bullmeecham 1 year ago
@bullmeecham Basically if they gave it away for free they couldn't have full-time teachers. I'm with you 100%. There's a lot of stuff going on politically with the "TM movement." There are people that feel exactly as you do and are trying to figure out how to provide it for a lower cost. I think most of those people just start their own thing. I didn't pay the $1,500, but I think it's worth it. And yes, there are a lot of "cultish" things about the TM movement. The meditation is still cool. :)
miltownkid 1 year ago
@bullmeecham If you can, I HIGHLY recommend going to Fairfield Iowa and checking it out for yourself. It's a very interesting experience. :) Plus, the first time you go, they'll cover your living expenses for like $50 (for a weekend). It was $10 when I went the first time.

78Divini 1 year ago
@78Divini That sounds about right to me. I don't "try" to have these experiences, but it's weird when you're like... "gone." You just "wake up" and are like "Where was I?" lol

@78Divini I'm so very glad I gave TM a chance even though people were saying it's fraud etc. It really does work and it is in my experience better than Buddhist type meditations as it's much, much easier to do. Possibly the best and most intelligent thing I've decided to do. It is at the moment helping me get through my very intense Cambridge University degree. Never thought something so simple could help me so much.

I give you five stars for enthusiasm. My mother, now almost 90 years old, introduced Me to TM in the early 1960s. I learned to meditate, for free, and it gives me great peace of mind. Or , in your words, I chill.
Cnethaway019430 1 year ago
In no way am I judging you but you are missing the point of meditation completely.....I will admit at first it is a chilling of the mind....But trancendental means to ACTUALLY transcend something....This "something' is your physical form...and in transcending this physical form your have enterend into a very mystical...very spiritual place of pure love and pure peace....I would look deeper my friend. God can be found within.....the source of all life dwells within you.

2beonly 1 year ago
@2beonly Someone at some point in time had to "learn for themselves" if you know what I'm saying. ;) That being said, I'd recommend taking the time to learn from a teacher.
miltownkid 1 year ago 3
@miltownkid Not necessarily true. The simplest transcendental technique is breathing in for a count of 8 and breathing out for a count of 8. Any words that you attach to this rhythm harmonize with the individual mind/body and the outside conscious environment. There you owe me $1500. I really wish "The Movement" would get rid of the Hindu gods in their mantras. They can easily be replaced, but at the same time, I prefer using Sanskrit words.
MagnanimousMichael 1 year ago
@MagnanimousMichael Did you mean to reply to someone else? All I said was "Someone at some point in time had to 'learn for themselves' if you know what I'm saying. ;) That being said, I'd recommend taking the time to learn from a teacher." I'm not sure how your comment applies to that... That said, I didn't pay the $1,500. There is tuition available for people that look into it. I've also since learned other meditations and... I still think being guided by a teacher is a good idea. :)
miltownkid 1 year ago
@miltownkid Alright I'm looking, where is this tuition? :)

@ishthealaskan The tuition to learn the meditation? It's all on the tm.org website. $1,500 for adults, half for students and scholarships for people who need them (I got a scholarship ;) ).

BrideAndGroomFilmsHD 1 year ago
I'd love to learn TM but like many people, haven't got the $1500 that is required to do so. Kinda makes you wonder if someone a while back had the idea of slapping a Trademark on something that has been taught for free for centuries.
I'm also suspicious of the way that TM spokespeople downgrade all other kinds of meditation in comparison to TM.
On the plus side, I'm a big David Lynch and Seinfeld fan ;D)

Why don't you charge $10 to a Billion and really change the world? Or even better make it free and ask for donations only like "normal" good people do?

"You cant put a price on the TM technique. How much is it worth to avert a stroke? "
so, we'll all get a stroke if we dont cough up 1500$ to learn this type of meditation?

I started TM years ago and find it invaluable in my life. After my 20 minutes of TM I have a ton of ideas, feel positive about life, less stressed, and mentally sharp. Its worth every penny. You'll get your sound/mantra and how to use it. TM teachers are paid by your fee and the center is supported. They are available to answer any questions or follow up about TM for free as long as you need. Like any organization you may meet some querky people but the technique is solid and works.

Paying for TM is like paying for oxygen.
djPIDJEON 2 years ago 23
@djPIDJEON At no point has TM claimed (officially, I can't speak for individuals) that meditation is something that people cannot learn themselves. TM does not have a lock on the meditation market; no one is obligated to pay to learn TM if they simply want to learn a meditation technique. However, TM is one of the very few (if not the only) techniques that is scientifically validated by a number if different, very reputable institutions. I believe there is something like 7 volumes of research.
arkieda 1 year ago
@djPIDJEON I disagree, in the sense that there are not professional oxygen teachers who put in significant amounts of their own time teaching you to breath.
Paying for TM is more like paying for food, a house, or medical care. Yes, I think everyone should have it, but professional meditation teachers have the same living expenses as anyone else, and thus must charge people for the time they put in teaching.

Please don't be suckered into paying for MEDITATION! You can learn YOURSELF! JUST READ! TM is a SCAM that capitalizes on something that's inherently FREE FOR ALL PEOPLE
djPIDJEON 2 years ago 27
Well meditation can mean alot... And if you learn all your meditations from a book you can be doing harm. Meditation is natural and for all people.. infact I'd go as far as to say its the most natural practice about humans in general to develop/furth ect.. And only saying this "mystical" makes it seem as though its not.. A teacher for meditation methods in general can be useful though.. In TM maybe not needed.. But deep meditations it'd be hard to go without in the beginning.
dardonZ 2 years ago
@djPIDJEON Well, no. The teachers are full time and have families and bills to pay like you and I. Why shouldn't they charge for it?
BrideAndGroomFilmsHD 1 year ago
@djPIDJEON do you know a good book or article or video i can learn from ? and why do you say you can learn it by yourself, although the creator himself said NO
Hussein2512 1 year ago
@Hussein2512 Google, and the library.
The creator of "TM" essentially took the very fundamental basics of meditation, gave it a fancy name, and advertised it by appealing to his middle-aged, working-class target audience. You'll see what I mean once you get your hands on any half-decent reading material on meditation.
djPIDJEON 1 year ago
@djPIDJEON There's a german/austrian movie starting in Europe shortly and probably 2011 in the US about the history of TM and what has become of it. Extremely insightful.
