@lafishguy how often do you have to replace plastic bio balls as the ceramic ones I have need to be changed every 6 months (not all at the smae time) which is next month
hey M, i have never replaced the plastic bio-balls, which has been my suspicion with the tight pore ceramic ones. I have had to flush out the plastic ones though.
@lafishguy think I will be buying some plastic bio balls then as they will be easy to flush as it's just a canister filter with several internal baskets
The best thing to do is soak the flake food in a bit of tank water before you dump it in. It will then sink instead of just stick on the surface and go down the overflow.
i need to know what the sump does you told me it revises the water but honestly do you need one if your gonna have live rock and live sand and fish?? I am also subscribing youre videos are a big help to everyone!! and by the way this will be my first aquarium i will have it in a year or so im just taking notes and learning about all the parts and stuff and i also would like to know what exactly the protein skimmer is gonna do for the salt water tank. i am planning on getting 55 gallon tank.
hi lafishguy can you help me i would like a reef tank but i am really stuck on what i need to have a good small setup but i really needs to be low tech
i really only what a few fish and maybe a little live rock for decoration.
hay la fish guy, couldn't the customer just shut off the filter for two minutes let the fish eat the flake food to make sure none get in the wet/dry filter
it's funny how entertaining, your videos are ive watch most of them even before the big music CHANGE glad to see your back! I've been into aquarium hobby since i can remember 8yrs old. Im currently going to be setting up a saltwater reef set up. would love to see some "setting up a saltwater" aquarium and maybe "different way/approches to pluming a wet dry trickle filter". either way YOUR the man JIM. keep up the Great and such informative VIDEOS the best on the Net really.!!
Thanks for posting all the videos LAFishGuy! Great information for the hobby.
BTW, you may want to purchase a Fish Feeding Ring for your customer to reduce the food going into the Wet/Dry Filter.

what happened to the top part of the coon skin hat your wearing? =)

hmm, you ever think about "diy"ing a power-filter cartage on the back of the overflow to help the waste get captured.

@samuelwaynefoleyjr

I am going to set up a 40-50 gallon reef aquarium. Is a wet-dry filter OK for a tank like this.

hey C, i would suggest 55/60 gallons for greater volume and stability but YES you can use a W-D Filter.

Hey jim what is better plastic or ceramic bio balls? I have a canister filter in a 55 gallon freshwater
martyb0y1690 1 year ago
hey M, i have no experience with the ceramic bio-balls, so I would go with the plastic ones.

hey jim, do you ever add beneficial bacteria to your tanks to help start the biological process in the filter, as i have to do with my fish pond?
mracampa23 1 year ago
hey M, if you are using starter fish then that should not be necassary.

does that bioball filter work with live corals?
Marco0618 1 year ago
hey M, a wet-dry is a very good filter, but it will produce more nutrients, as a result of its effectiveness, than a coral system would appreciate.

How long does it take bacteria to form on my bio media?

hey S, as much as i hate the idea of promoting small low tech tanks consider a nano type tank.

hey G, i've been down that road before, one asks but rarely does that happen. the really scary part is hoping they would remember to turn it back on.

could u put live rock or the filter can't handle it? Also how many gallons is that and what are the dimensions?
yosimar95 2 years ago
hey Y, you can put whatever you want in the filter. i prefer the bio-balls. its a 75 gallon Hex, 30" tall and 25" Flat to Flat.

What do i do? Flies have invaded my tank, and are multiplying like crazy! Help please? I've done many water changes but they keep comming back!
XxxzSethzxxX 2 years ago
hey Seth, no idea. never run into that problem before. get a fish who eats them or treat the tank with something to kill them off.
lafishguy 2 years ago
what size tank is this? im deciding between a 60 gal hex or a 41 gallon square tank having a hard time choosin though
BoY860 2 years ago
hey B, its either a a 75 gallon hex. go with the bigger, greater volume tank.
