It seems pure daft to be having a battle in the middle of a council estate - people could get hurt. Surely a battlefield could have been found nearby. And where were the Gardai - probably out the road operating a speed trap for handy fines - instead of tackling the real criminals running around in broad daylight firing guns and letting off fireworks and driving the dogs crazy. Make you sick.
@Doireboy1991 No it was the women beating bin lids on the ground. They did that (and blew whistles) to warn folks that the british troops were approaching.
A priest was killed in cold blood, that's just terrible, and he was just trying to give the last rites to someone who was a fellow catholic, it's appalling savagery.
My Ma & Da lived in Dermott Hill back then, had to move out in 72 as ma Da was OIRA. To my amazement I watch that thing about Mother Teresa on TV recently and he was there. Very briefly but there. He was handing out loaves of bread to ppl in Ballymurphy. He never really talked about his past & it was only when he passed away thaty my Ma spoke about his involvement in that stuff. How the Provos went to thew house & held a gun to his head. Crazy times back then. They really were.
Great footage.Justice for the Ballymurphy Massacre Victims.Never seen the footage of Fr Mullan's funeral, although we do have' A million bricks' which has a lot of the other footage included. Some of the same paras were involved in Bloody Sunday, months later. Thanks for posting.
