@Solitarious2011 The reason people are athiests and say "Oh my god" is force of habit. It's a very commonly used phrase, I grew up hearing it do I say it all the time even though I am an athiest.
I am fascinated by people who say they do not believe in God and yet will use the line in conversation "oh my God". So by this they are swearing on something they dont believe in.
I dont believe in the invisable flying spaghetti monster so should I by exactly the same principle swear by it in future conversation such as, "oh my invisable flying spaghetti monster".

...why is it that arguing the atheist/theist debate feels like an infinity loop? Nobody can ever win. If a point is made by one side, then the other side can effortlessly reverse it. For example, if I was to come back at Dawkins after that, I'd simply say the religious veiw would be their religion is correct and all others are wrong. It doesn't matter which religion you're talking about, it's always right...much like atheism, who's to say that's right? Has anyone alive witnessed evolution?

While he didn't state it outright, it is obvious to anyone with intelligence what he was getting at, which is that all religions/religious beliefs are equally possible and that she could also be wrong, which is the answer. Let me tell you something, if she is wrong, nothing happens, she is just wrong. A little clarification for those saying Dawkins didn't answer the question: He did. He's saying that there is no evidence whatsoever for the existence of deities, which are made up by man, and that even if evolution weren't true, it still doesn't prove the existence of a god/gods, and on top of it, why does that make YOUR RELIGION right? Yes, some people break away from that, but using them as an example doesn't disprove Dawkins' point. Is it just mere coincidence that Christianity has been so dominant in Europe for so long or that Islam is so dominant in the Middle East? People being brought up to believe something from childhood DOES play a major part in what path that person chooses in the future.

Nothing scares the shit out of people more than entertaining the notion that something that they have been brought up to believe in their entire life just might not be true. I think he was trying to say that the reason to why you believe in the Christian God and you don't believe in , for example, Allah, is because you were born in a Christian community. The same way a person who is born around an Islam community believes in Allah but does not believe in the Christian God.

Yes, some people break away from that, but using them as an example doesn't disprove Dawkins' point. He glibly states any one could be wrong, which is interesting as he is implying that his way could not be wrong. Truth is that the answer is, if I am a Christian, and I am wrong, Im wrong and I push up daisies, nothing more, nothing less. If he is wrong, then what? So speaking from a philosophical point of view, he is the one who must answer the question.

He never implied that his way couldn't be wrong, he admits that he, just like anyone else, "could be wrong".
Your reasoning for being comforted "if you're wrong" is one big piece of Pascal's Wager; which is flawed in every way. If you are wrong, then you may end up with Zeus, or Thor, or Allah; all of whom will be mighty displeased with you.
You basically assume that Disbelief will be punished more than Blasphemy. Dawkins does not have to answer stupid questions. :/

No God/person claims that they can live inside you and bring you love joy and peace, to the degree that you yield to them.If someone claimed that Id be like "great, live inside me and thru me." And if it didnt happen,then no harm done.But if my desires change and i have inner joy and love for others that I never had b4,then I would be convinced.After than id let Him guide me as to what to believe.It all happened to me like that and he guided me to the bible which verified my experience exaclty.

We know, even though i wrote it now and used real names and places, it is a legend, or myth, or fiction whichever you want to call it. The fact is the bible is just a book, theres no factual evidence to really support it.

Obviously you know nothing of textual criticism. Newspapers and not legend and connot be legend, because there are eyewitnesses that can confirm or deny report. In the gospels you will find extra detail which is a literary technique to provide the reader with a means of verification of the accuracy of the writing. This is common knowledge so there is no reason debating this. Google legend.

How would i possibly see hear taste etc a transcendent being that is omnipresent? Any sighting could and would be explained by natural causes. God in ingenius in that he gives us another sense, its called faith. Faith is the evidence bc faith is the ability to be aware of God. 2. Jesus claimed to be God as recorded by the gospels. He did so in public so it was then verifiable by eyewitnesses.

I'm sure there were "eyewitnesses" of all sorts of events. You could find ancient texts that claim that anyone who questions any particular faith is being controlled by the devil and not by curiosity and open-mindedness. There could be "eyewitnesses" of a giant teapot teleporting into a public area 2000 years ago.

That is how historical data works. If events are recorded with in the lifetimes of the eyewitnesses and circulated, esp when most of those eyewtinesses are enemies and the events were public, and no one can refute those events are never occurring then that is solid history. Meta is proof that people choose hell. God just gives them what they want.

@j919or That isn't solid history. If an account can't be falsified or substantiated independently of the source then the account is moot. There is no biological proof of a resurrection, or that a resurrection is possible; save, of course, Lazarus Syndrome which is documented but not fully understood. Also, the accounts of Jesus -weren't- recorded in his lifetime, but decades after. It's not even universally accepted that he was an actual person or that he was "divine."
