I am Palestinian Muslim and I am Canaanite. This language sounds like a mix between hebrew and arabic, but I think arabic is much prettier. I am proud that the arabs conquered my country, because my ancestors probably worshiped idols. Canaanites were a semitic people like jews and arabs which make canaanite jews, arabs and canaanites all cousins. That is why we look so similar.
@istiiizzz thank you for your interest in the canaanite-phoenician culture, I am a lebanese who is born in Germany and I grew up there, I still live there , my parents are from Beyrout but they are originally from Baalbek.
@istiiizzz greek was popular on the mediteranian coasts because it offered the people a trade with the greeks, also later latin. But the people still spoke their own language too,but didnt record it in writting or maybe they wrote on material similar to paper, papyrus which didnt last long. One thing is sure there are phoenician inscription which still date to the 2 & 3 century after christ.Maybe they talked longer in their language. The related punic language is attested till the 6th century ad.
Well arabic is simply a modern language of canaanite and all semitic language of the levant. And I agree with "montezoma" arabic is born from the old semitic languages and not viceverse.
@amrjosef right , but not only from the levant, there was amoritic it was a transfer language between proto-canaanite and arabic it was spoken in jordania and syria and west iraq attested 2200 bc, the oldest (north)arabic inscriptions are from the 8th century bc, the oldest canaanite language inscription is from 2400 bc, it was proto cananite already divided in this extrem old period, it would be to simple to say that all semitic languages came from arabic.
@israeli360 You dump little eastern european jew. You have NOTHING that relate you with the levant or the middleeast. Actually you converted to judaism in the 700 centery. The hebrews was a semitic people from the arabian peninsula and not from Poland or Russia or Eritrea.
@montezoma I forgot to say that the modern arabicdialects are also based on quranarabic, the ancient arabic dialects all died out.Proto north west semitic was close to the ancient north arabic in grammar and pronounciation but developed much earlier and was'nt dierect related to arabic.Arabic developed seperately from its own proto language,ok we could go further back then we are by proto semitic which is the base for all semitic languages, north west semitic ermerged earlier than central semitic.
DNA results show that Lebanese Christians specially Catholics are actually the remain of the crusades and they have no Semitic DNA but european. Shia and druze of the south are persian who escaped the wrath of the Seljuk Turks. the Arab Sunni and Orthodox christian are actually the real Phoenicians! but now they call themselves ARABS!
all lebanese are phoenician christian muslim and druz and don't be stuck up to other arabs we might not be a pure as gulf arabs but theyre not all bad like saudis lol
Why would you put that crappy music in the background and then talk too low to hear? I'm not interested in Phoenician elevator music, I want to hear what you think Phoenician/Canaanite sounds like! Wallah!
Your video is at best ignorant, at worst lying Arab propaganda. Hebrew and Phoenician are sister languages. Arabic, a south Semitic language, is very different; and the Arabs entered the coastal region of Israel-Phoenicia in only recent times.
I am lebanese and stop insulting my people, even they have not the same opinion as I, all humans are related, all came from central afirca, no race, but culturs,
this video is about the canaanite language and not about insulting ok, let everyone choose as everybody like to choose, I will make another video soon about canaanite langauge.
I like the sound of Arabic. Phoenician is a nice language too i'm sure. I'd rather resurrect Syriac though if you want to go to extremes.
But even more I'd like some Lebanese to stop cryin' over spilled milk and be proud of what they have and who they are, instead of these silly games of "let's play Phoenician" or "let's play "Aramaean" blah blah blah. Arab tribes lived in the Levant LONG before Islam, and many came via migration not invasion. Read Kamal Salibi, Ira Lapidus, Asher Kaufman.
thats true its zionist propagnda most maronite phoenician christians converted to islam through word of mouth not ethnicity maronite christians come from the lavant in sryia they try to claim that they are the only ones who are european but we all know this isnt true i am half english but always claimed im arab
Yea Ithink thats right, in the bible are many words in phoenician language and phoenician god names are mentioned as names for the jewish god. Before the hebrews came to canaanites they spoke aramaic, but since they lived in canaan they mixed their aramaic with the canaanite language , the result is hebrew.
I think you should inform you better, of course it is not to 100 percent exact, but I tried, do you want to forbide me this? I think not, but there are many people who like to hear it how it could sound, I will help those people.
Nobody knows for sure how the Canaanite sounds really. The interpretations of the Canaanite talking are mostly based ( and very inccurately ) on the hebrew, which is, very much so, a broken Canaanite language. For Hebrews did not spoke their present language before they invade Canaan. So, even though the idea of rendering the Canaanite language sound, is very admirable, people should keep in mind that the real sound of this language can be far away from the presentation.
You have very interesting videos, thanks for sharing with us, it is a wonderfull language :D

LOL?! Phoenician IS NOT FROM ARABIC. The closest relative of Phoenician is Hebrew, although they are two different langauges.
