That run by Jones that begins at :28 is epic, man. Thomas Jones is pure class and always has been. Thanks for the great years in Chicago, TJ. A damn shame they let you go and kept Cedric...you played with great heart man, and Chicago will always love you.
@STEEPPOW Yeah, he was a beast! I miss watching him and his brother Julius play there at Powell Valley. They and the powerful teams they played on brought a lot of joy to these small towns.
As a current attendant of AHS I really think that we've lost touch with our roots. we wonder why we haven't done as well in recent years since the death of Tom Turner, but in truth, he was what held us together. he wanted to teach us all to have the strength to fight for what we want and work great as both individuals in the world and brothers on a team. we've just gotten caught-up in all the word of our imminent consolidation. hopefully we'll do better next year. maybe i'll go join the team...
You can watch the players today and they generally don't have the work ethic, heart, or desire to be champions. They play because they're on the team, but not because they want to get out there and give it all they've got. This is not true for every player on every team, but if you pay close attention and compare their attitudes of today to those of yesterday's championship teams, you'll see a big difference in confidence, the ability to succeed, and even raw athletic ability.
If I'm not mistaking, I do believe that the John I. Burton Raiders lost in the playoffs to the Appalachia Bulldogs in 1994 with a score of 34 to 18 Region D Semi-finals.
You are correct. I must have been looking through Appalachia's 1994 season record when I made the mistake of saying Powell Valley beat Burton in the playoffs. I thought it would seem strange having Powell Valley play Burton in the playoffs. I've corrected this error also. Thank you for pointing it out!
This brings back awesome memories. We didn't go 14-0 as the caption says, though, we were 12-2, losing to both Lee High and Richlands. The 14-0 season was 1995, the year following this game.
Is that you near the end of the line at about 6:07 in the video? I bet it's a strange feeling seeing yourself in that Vikings uniform over 15 years ago!

Sorry about that mistake. I was probably looking at the 1995 season record by mistake. I'll go ahead and update it to 12-2.
