  • @rwdplz1 lmfao

  • "Can't fix a problem? Make it a feature!"

  • Not with those south of the border mexishit parts.

  • 100% true. I have to open the vent window to close the door fully. As for the ability to breathe, it is a marvel how you actually don't suffocate. I guess you can always just open the vent window if it gets a little stale.

  • My nephew's wife was a VW lover and had a beetle. One of the little quirks she hated was the windshield would fog up fast. Now I know WHY! LOL

  • Comment removed

  • lol it pisses me off to do it with my beetle, when im in a hurry and park it somewhere lol

  • what a perfect engineering marvels old vw's were... the first car you could hot box

  • So airtight you cant breathe

  • The 1970's chevy trucks do the same thing crazy how tight these old rigs are new cars do not do that .

  • I thought the title said "alright".

Wouldn't the car eventually run out of oxygen?

  • An airtight car is good for a couple of reasons. When you're following a stinky deisel for example, or a misfiring gas car, it helps keep you from having to smell it. Also, it keeps alot of the "road dirt" out of the car.

  • @DarkMessiahEyes

why wouldn't you? You can drive through fire! Or smoke some fire and hotbox it if ou roll that way. An airtight cabin is a good thing, especially for corrosion and protection of the interior.

  • Way to turn a flaw into a feature.

  • @fjccommish not a flaw. good build quality. they also float.

  • @adutton428 But the door won't close. That seems to be a practical flaw. When people exit a car, most fling the door shut.

  • @fjccommish

Oh no, you have to push on the door to close it. How people managed to drive those cars for 50+ years nobody knows.

  • @luminaeus i have one for 40 years now

  • And if Teddy Kennedy had been driving a VW, he would have become president one day.

  • Now THAT. is proper advertising.

  • If performance of a car is measured by air tightness, a can of sardines will beat Ferrari easily.

  • If the car is so airtight, if you fell asleep in the car with the windows up, would you suffocate??

  • Why do you want an airtight car?

  • but, how do you close the window?

  • Our car doors wont close...misguided message vw hahaha, the water test is much better ;]

  • HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTBOOOOX

  • 3 people don't get it

  • jajaj, open a window so someone can steal it, jajajja

  • @MrComparan beaner

  • @jeffreyhagan are you angry, you racist whore, hajhaajajjajajahahahahhahahahahaha

  • LOL my 1971 is STILL the same way! To get the door to close with the windows closed you have to actually hold the handle and push it, not just slam it.

  • @aut0american Same with my '75 1303A! Replaced the door seals recently, and just like the vid, I have to push the doors shut.

  • Whatever makes you happy, i can only say that a testreport in the 60s called the car toatlly unacceptable on the sole acount of lack of ventilation. I am not saying that lack of ventilation is a sign of poor build quality, but i say that it is a design flaw. Well yes, they did sell 25 millions of this strange backwards car..But , if you can accept swingaxles and rear engine and total lack of directional stability, you could also live with an airtight cabin, until your oxygen runs out, naturally.

  • @meharidude I've driven Volkswagens and they were great little cars-fun to drive and great economy-wise.

  • @MrAlsfan5

I dont doubt that, i never said anything else, except that i dont like the idea of having an engine in the back, fueltank up front, and swingaxles...But yes, they were built like tanks...I said that a car without ventilation is badf, and that i dont see an airtight car as being a good target to aim at.

  • Now, is this a good thing or bad thing? If the car is airtight, it doesnt have any ventilation...A car without ventilation is a bad car..

  • @meharidude "it doesnt have any ventilation...A car without ventilation is a bad car.." That is one of the most dumb things to say. What 2 things go up and down on a VW Beetle? The windows. And what do you get when windows are down? Ventilation. People with downs syndrome have got more sence. The car is airtight. It means good positive build quality. Its a sign of assured quality against leaks and wind rush noise. It means its well sealed.

  • @1ns4ne1d10t

Okay so why does all modern cars, without exception, have vented cabins? Because an open window gives draught and contributes to noise. Yes, you might say that an airtight cabin is a sign of good build quality, but it is also a sign of poor ergonomic design. Which is also why later Beetles (still the Type 1) has vents to ensure cabinventilation.

  • @meharidude They obviously realised the problem and rectified it. Don't forget it is a 1950's car. Most 1950's cars were mobile fish-tanks and sounded like they had gales on the inside at 60. Volkswagen were setting the standards for good cars and while everyone else were building heaps in the 50's, VW were making good cars to rely on. An airtight cabin was the least of your problems in the 50's. All you had to do was close the door with some more oomph. Hardly a serious build issue is it?

  • LOL, it help's to open the window to close the door.

and it helps stealing it :P

  • Good for those days when you feel like some minor carbon monoxide poisoning! >:D

  • how do they pass these characteristics ( this ad and others ) as positive... i got no idea.

  • Closing your door with a window open? I bet this was a 1970s carjacker's favorite commercial.

  • why cant new commercials be this cool?

  • So if you passed a dead skunk, would you smell it???

  • my dad told me about this i didn't believe him at first guess he was right

  • i tried it on my 65 vw and it worked!

  • i dont even have windo seals around the door seals and mine is like that.

  • ...but...but, people NEED air...... to LIVE.

  • @DrPsychoTherapist nah its just a fad..

  • my 73 super doesnt do thar ;_;

  • @LolEYEHasFun

Your car is probably one of the later versions that had vents..Even Vw realized that venting is a good idea.

Think about, in the winter you pump the cabin full of hot air, that has nowhere to go..

  • @meharidude lol and if you fart orr worse an exhaust leak uhhh yeah

  • even my '71 VW with a buggered inner door seal still needs the door pushing closed...and it's 39 years old people!!!

    pretty cool :P

  • I wonder if Bugs came with a warning label that read "Warning: Spending to much time in the car with windows rolled up could lead to a increase in Carbon Dioxide poisoning do to lack of fresh Oxygen!

  • open a window so someone can steal the car

  • so how will that help the buyer???... no rain inside or wtf???

  • Well Genius, this helps a person if you fall into a lake or body of water, you dont float for abit, instead of sink like a rock like most cars today

  • and it's easy to make an air conditioning system in the car and the cold air doesn't escape

  • @toamna1

in these Days most Cars arend tight enough to stop Rainwater, many Cars hat really seas in the passenger cabin.

  • so if u take loads of very high sighs in there with windows closed will the car explode?

  • if a baby gets inside with all windows closed surely die?

  • This is one of those commercials where you're not sure who's side its on :P

  • This also happens to mine mk2 and its kinda annoying coz when window or sun roof is open when you close the door normally (as you would when everything is closed) its sound like you smashed it and you are mad!

  • have you replaced the rubber seals? I thought they must have decayed and would break the pressure locking effect.

  • umm selling point? suffocation?

  • The selling point? Build quality. :)

  • weird

  • they made it this way to serve as a mustard gas shelter :-)

  • these where probably the german v dubs. I doubt the mexican ones where so freaking refined and perfect

  • my 1958 does that but, my 73 super does not do not because thelittle grilles behind the back side windows like jmowreader said

I always wondered why thanks jmowreader

  • In either 1970 or 1971, Volkswagen put a little grille behind the back side windows. It's there to relieve the pressure inside the car. Not only couldn't you slam the doors, if the car got hot enough inside the window seals would soften and the windows would pop out. The grilles put an end to this.

Oh, they also make the car look good.

  • The vents also were meant to stop the condensation forming on rear panels on each side of the window that caused rust. But somehow it made it worst as can be seen on later model where that rust is very common.

  • Good ol' beetle. It literally has it's own atmosphere XD!

  • i lol'd at your comment! HAHA

  • Good god you could fart in it, and it would NEVER dissipate :( lol

  • Have you ever been in the back of a beetle in a 104 summer? Add farts and it's literally hell.

  • yup :( been there done that

  • Okay, so maybe build quality does not equal air quality. :D

  • @yamahonkawazuki omg i lol'd thats true too my granpaw has one and u cant fart in it or everyone will puke i did once

  • lmfao, hell yeaa XD !

  • lol xD got it from the quest magazine 8]

  • Hoi quest magazine. xD

  • Yes, that's a familiar phenomenon :-)

  • my bug does the same :)

  • If Teddy Kennedy had a VW he might have been president !

  • True

  • haha

  • Ha?! Cool! :-D

  • thats cool i want one

  • This is very true. I have a 73 and the now nearly 36 year old factory rubber seals still seal it tightly. It will close easy if you crack the window slightly.

  • that's crazy. i wish they still made VW's like this.

  • well most cars have vents to stop this problem i find it hard to believe that vw sell this as a good point!!!!

  • its a good point incase u have a dog inside the car.

  • why a dog?

  • wow i never thought of that with my super!

  • I love my 66 bug!

  • Wouldn't it be Hard to breathe inside?

  • no because of the airtightness its actually healthier to breath inside the VW because it reduces pollen etc entering the car.

  • not in my car i got a vicious gas leak somewhere or she just runs real rich!

  • get a PICT carby kit there like 30 buck AUS lol

  • No wonder that my friends old bug was stolen... geez

  • it's so true!!

  • that's neat

  • lol that is so true, i know it from my bug ;)
