Use the lasso, magnetic lasso, or pen tool, and trace around what you want, cut and paste. See my iVector iMask tutorial in the Chores section of my Web site. Maybe that will help.
Also even without cutting and pasting you can achieve collage type effects simply by playing around with each layer's blending mode, opacity, and using masking to hide/reveal desired areas. The masking concepts and techniques I've already shown in several vids, here...just apply those concepts to your layers.
I still don't understand the white part at the bottom of the boat =\. It's supposed to be dark there isn't it?
