  • The West Bank was never Arab land. It was part of the Ottoman Empire, conquered by Britain and run as Mandated Palestine. Then Jordan occupied i AND EXPELLED ALL THE JEWS but never annexed it. Israel took it over in a war of self-defence. Jews have as much right to their historic homeland as do Arabs. Why did the land become "Arab" simply because Jordan expelled all the Jews, while Israel generously has not expelled Arabs from the lands it holds?

  • My cousin is a rabbi who studied in Jerusalem, and I'm kind of a centrist on this. Israel has a right to defense, but the self-destructive right wing of Israeli politics refuses to recognize that settlement projects and disrespect for human rights created the current problems.

    But to focus on the politics is to miss the point: These students are not responsible for foreign policy! Why are they being punished?! Getting smart young people together would help bridge cultural and political gaps.
