 I always wondered what that was whilst I was playing! I have been doing some study and it turns out there is alot of meaning and thought put behind the plot of the game.

Apparently Dr. Richtofen used the energy from that meteorite to create the Wunderwaffe. The energy created from the meteorite is the decay of Calcium and Lead atoms, creating radioactive element 115 (Ununpentium, which is an actual element) and because of its radioactivity it probably explains the origin of the zombies.

thats the meteorite tanguska, a huge meteor that hit earth a long time ago, many of the worlds states and cities were devastated, this meteorite was containing element 115. this leads me to believe that element 115 is real, anyway,

dr maxis was doing experiments with the element in der riese, which you can figure out in the radio messages of der riese. most of dr maxis's experiments failed, teleporting the test subjects to the main room and turning them into zombies.

Little is known about this element or elements 113-122. all of which have been given temporary names with Latin and Greek origins, e.g element 118 is Ununoctium, element 114 is Ununquadium. These elements are created by the decay of the bombardment of certain two metals.

It was said that this element contained the elemet 115. Why then, is it called a synthetic element when it is said to have occurred in that meteorite? Well it was created from scratch by us, by bombarding Americium and Calcium atoms together. WE got involved in creating this element, which lead to the discovery of many more synthetic elements.
