The ball seemed to rise in a smooth action, possibly from being pushed out of place because it was a tight fit (like "badboytobs" said)...which contradicts the idea that it was actually the left side clip cutting back to normal, which would result in a jerky motion.

Derren does use some illusion in his shows but this was not one of those times. He usually uses NLP and hypnosis for forces and "mind control" I know this as a master hypnotist.

I don't get why people blame Derren for fooling us. He's not claiming he can do such things, and he says he's doing tricks. For example, Uri Geller claims he really is a mentalist. He also is disliked by other mentalists. It's all about the show, it is their work. What some people are commenting here, is like saying "dude, Iron maiden is using a guitar to get that sound!"

Look , you are morons, nobody can predict the lottery,as no one can predict randomness, sure, the machine might favor a number if you look at 20 years of history, but you can interpret that all the way, there is no formula for predicting the lottery, nor is anybody going to rig the lottery, it's a split-screen trick, as shown here, and the splitcreen effect isn't even that tricky to do, I don't get why you'd prefer the ,rigging the lottery'' explanation after the more logical, easier one

I'm always amused when someone says that they would be more impressed if he had shown the numbers before they were announced. Don't they understand that in order to do this he would have to rig the lottery from the inside (a serious crime), and then by showing the numbers before they were announced he would thereby be proving his guilt? So of course he's not going to do this--not if he values his freedom!

OK - so however he did it, it was a trick. What a surprise! He's an illusionist, and he makes no secret of that. This COULD have been camera tricks, but I like his final scenario - the one where he rigged the lottery. The only problem with that idea, though, is that at the start of the program he clearly said that he was doing "nothing illegal". Well, rigging the lottery in favour of one set of numbers is clearly illegal, as it denies anybody without those numbers any chance of winning.

If you understand Derren then you know this event was faked and he never predicted them.
The purpose was not to predict the lottery, it was to test the nation fooling them into believing that a man 'could' predict the lottery numbers.
It is about skeptisism.
People that 'want' to believe he genuinely figured it out argue that he 'can' predict them, but logical rational people know it is a 1/14m chance for every guess.
There is no system.
He is testing the perception of the nation.

After all no audience was present witnessing it and no pre-recorded display of his prediction has been shown.
The explaination show revealed nothing other than standard statistical anecdotes and tricks, mixed with mystical nonsense such as automatic writing.
It was all a smoke screen to support that he 'did' predict the numbers in the minds of those 'willing' to be fooled without necessary evidence -
I.E. Proof of the predicted numbers.

Have you considered that technology is to blame - by the time the image reaches you one ball may appear slightly higher but to my mind it is because a white ball 6x6 pixels (I didn't count) may shift a single pixel? Just a thought; which is something you seem to lack.

much of the events you assume had to happen if it were a camera trick, didn't.
1) why do u assume the stand moved at any stage before derren moved it?
2) there was PLENTY of time to insert the balls as drawn, then re-arrange them numerically before derren moves over to them.
3) its part of the camera trick that u dont see someone changing them, that part of the video feed is frozen until derren moves over to it.
I have a slightly different theory but either way, the trick is easy with cam tricks

The camera was most likely stationary while the "handheld" effect was likely applied to throw people off the scent. I'm a huge fan of Derren Brown, and yes, it was a camera trick.
